I feel like they need a bit more urgency, to show how tense it was. Like in our production the actors were all up in eachothers faces and it was way more urgent and idk. I feel like they should be more urgency to figure out and place the blame, but in this one they're kinda just standing around
As someone who isn’t an actress or isn’t a theatre kid, I really enjoyed watching this, I thought the acting was just fine, and their voices were fine, and the music was fine. (All I know is they did better than I ever could, that is why I appreciate them 🤷🏻♀️)
Wow. Slow. Bland. I think casting has a lot to do with it though. I liked the Witch's attitude. Little Red was good. Jack and the Baker though are almost identical. They even act the same... which is not a lot. I agree that they all need more energy, but how about switching up the emotions... or showing some in the first place? It's like 'Your fault' on valium.
Well first of all, I don’t think these people were professional, and second, this is a live performance, the actors in the film were tuned heavily, and therefore sound much better than these people do live.
and with the slow pace there shouldnt be mistakes... i know its a hard song but damn... the production i'm in of this show... it's only been 2 weeks and we make no mistakes at double that tempo. (i plays me some jack!)
Its kind of strange how everyone is commenting on how "dreadfully slow" they made this song..yes, they could have sped it up a bit towards the end and had some more energy, but overall it stuck to the pace of the original Broadway production.
were are doing this play at my school, im the narrator but during rehearsals i have filled in for the baker.... but the song is much faster and personally its not that hard to sing and act this song
I kind of feel like the witch forgot her given circumstances. I mean she's not nice, she's not good, and she's just lost her "daughter". And there also should be a strong sense of self preservation here. I'm not sensing any of that here. And the song was too slow, but what would have worked is maybe if it began slow and sped up. That would have really kept the urgency up for it. But all in all it wasn't a terrible production from the clips I've seen, so kudos guys!
The Witch's talking voice is too sweet. It need to be more morose. And, lol. I know how this one is...Your Fault is too slow. I know, it's painful, lol. xD So all the actions we're a little less accusatory and kinda bland. The song needed more ferocity. I saw some other clips from this, and it's okay. Not the best. Ha, then of course, the original was spectacular...it's hard to top it. =/
I watched the movie tonight. Pretty good, but with some... questionable plot choices. Like, this wood is supposed to be really big and easy to get lost in, right? Then why did the characters encounter each other every five minutes or so? And the whole Rapunzel character arc was completely unnecessary and useless. I think they just kept it going because they realized the plot hole of the hair and the witch touching it. Other than that, I liked it, and the songs were great. This one was my favorite.
One of the main themes of the second act is that they are lost, the reason they ran into each other all the time is because they all used the same paths in the first half, but in the second half when they're all destroyed, thats when they got lost
Collin Gentry The witch's unhappy ending is still attached to Rapunzel. You don't have a good sense of how the play actually works. Everyone loses something, and in the play, Rapunzel dies. They of course couldn't have her being graphically squished (There can only be so much tragedy in a Disney film), so they changed that. It still makes the Witch bitter, and happy enough to take it out on Jack.
This show is better off with mediocre singers and fantastic actors. Here, we have a case of very good singers but actors who can't handle a Sondheim show.
Jack's voice is lower than the bakers. This song is an arguement, not a discussion. Push the tempo
And taller
Fair enough. But, sometimes actors have different features than you imagine.
it's supposed to be that way, it's meant to be a joke that jack is a dumb kid in the body of a man from the original musical production
I agree.... the tempo of the whole thing was off😴😴😴
I feel like they need a bit more urgency, to show how tense it was. Like in our production the actors were all up in eachothers faces and it was way more urgent and idk. I feel like they should be more urgency to figure out and place the blame, but in this one they're kinda just standing around
It would be easier if Cinderella weren't holding the baby during it
The speed is dragging too. (I get though that this song is very hard to sing)
At 2:28 the baker sounds like he forgot that he was supposed to say that line for a second...
He did sound like that
The witch is perfect! We did this production last year and this really makes me morose.
The song starts at 2:07
no energy. come on, it's sondheim
Wow, this version is really slow. I'm surprised, especially since the one I'm in has much younger actors who are doing it much faster.
the movie I slower but it gets faster, but you're right this is too slow
The movie was still too slow
Timothy Robert no it’s wasn’t
Waiting in the Wings Savanna it kinda was tho I enjoy the originals pace
Fernando Uribe II yeah nobody can live up to the original but it’s still good
is this at a slower tempo?
i remember doing this song a little faster when we performed it...
As someone who isn’t an actress or isn’t a theatre kid, I really enjoyed watching this, I thought the acting was just fine, and their voices were fine, and the music was fine. (All I know is they did better than I ever could, that is why I appreciate them 🤷🏻♀️)
It's Jack's fault. No one told him to steal the gold from the giant.
Trafalgar Lawn But jack wouldn’t know the giant existed of the witch didn’t grow the beans
Not to mention that red riding dared him
IT'S EVERYONE'S FAULT
But he only stole stole the gold to get his cow back from the baker
None of this would have happened if the bakers father hadn’t stolen from the witch
They couldn't keep up the pace
Well the witch was good
theres not enough energy in the stage thats all. lines were executed fine but the movement just isnt enough
yeah right
and by the way i wasnt being sarcastick
I think this song and "Agony" were my favorites:)
AAAAAGGGGOOONNNYYYYY
I just live the whole performance.
Wow. Slow. Bland. I think casting has a lot to do with it though. I liked the Witch's attitude. Little Red was good. Jack and the Baker though are almost identical. I'm playing Cinderella in my High School's production of this!
This brought me much joy. I like this witch and I love how at the end she is just standing there like These guys are IDIOTS.
this song reminds me of "the blame" from Titanic the musical. Everyone blaming everyone else frantically. xDD
This is like illegal heathers all over again
All you turds who are pointing out all of their "mistakes" (yas, that's right, I quoted it!) are seeing nothing. This is absolutely amazing!
That's a really cool idea.
i totally agree with you. it's meant to be faster then this
This is great!
haha...centerstage at BMC performed this wish i had a recording they done an awesome job :)
Wow, that....sucked. So much smoother in the movie.
Umm you know this was like 20 years ago? like in the 1990
+RedFish4Ever Yeah, I fail to see what a difference in time makes in the vocal chords and timing of completely different people.
Well first of all, I don’t think these people were professional, and second, this is a live performance, the actors in the film were tuned heavily, and therefore sound much better than these people do live.
I liked the original play better
aweeee now last midnight? :(
The witches acting lets this down so much
2014 version is a british version.
Nobody Asked. 2014 version was better!!
they always seemed to keep going really close to eachother
and with the slow pace there shouldnt be mistakes... i know its a hard song but damn... the production i'm in of this show... it's only been 2 weeks and we make no mistakes at double that tempo. (i plays me some jack!)

The scene before the song felt extremely slow too, and seemed to lack any emotion.
Very 'what do we do next' feel.
And The Baker makes me cringe.
Jack looks and sounds older than the baker and that bothers me
Everyone was good.
It's a song, not a conversation
@slightlyinsane123 I'm singing along to it but I'm way too fast! :)
Same
not the best actors. Witch is good. Baker horrible.
They did okay
I have to disagree.
Push tempo this is supposed to be a discussion in a song not a argument slightly singing it
were are doing this play at my school, im the narrator but during rehearsals i have filled in for the baker.... but the song is much faster and personally its not that hard to sing and act this song
i'm only singing it in a group but i sing jack and the witch..it's so confusing..
Too slow boo
it lacks urgency
I think the thing they did wiht the letters were clever
lucky. I have to play Rapunzel and Florinda. :-\
SLOW AND THE SETS FUCKED UP BLOCKS?
this is soooo slow, its awkward
Ya
The witch is good, and the rest of them are fine, but the baker? His tone finding out his wife was dead was so monotone and not upset or even shocked.
*was
I kind of feel like the witch forgot her given circumstances. I mean she's not nice, she's not good, and she's just lost her "daughter". And there also should be a strong sense of self preservation here. I'm not sensing any of that here.

Ugh it's not the same as the movie and it's better when Jack was british and Cinderella is WAY different (I know they're not the same people)
The Jack in the original version is not British
Jenny Gadeke In American Playhouse's version he was vaguely Irish
Oh okay QuikVidGuy
Alaina Steele The play was around before the movie
songs a lil' to slow for me
Can someone please tell me how could this play exist in 2007 if the movie came out in 2014, 7 years later?
It existed in like 1991.
Maybe the film WAS the one based on something?
Fernando Banda yeah, ok that could be possible but why, why would they start doing something like this now?
Things are redone and readapted all the time. I don't see why you are surprised that a movie is based on something else from years ago.
Wow. This cast really needs to work on their acting, which is a pity because they have good voices and an amazing set.
It's soooooooo slow and I would like it if they sung it faster and Cinderella shouldn't hold the babe while argureing.
The Witch's talking voice is too sweet. It need to be more morose.
And, lol. I know how this one is...Your Fault is too slow. I know, it's painful, lol. xD So all the actions we're a little less accusatory and kinda bland. The song needed more ferocity.

Ha, then of course, the original was spectacular...it's hard to top it. =/
They didnt do it right
// Aren't they suppose to be a little more high strung?
They are simply walking around like this song has no meaning; no urgency...
Speed dat shit up. I want this song to be near patter song fast.

No. No where at all does it say the woods are big and you can easily lost. Your making up your one stories.
301st viewer It can be inferred, like how they were TOLD not to get lost, and in many shots, it was portrayed to be gigantic. I don't know.
One of the main themes of the second act is that they are lost, the reason they ran into each other all the time is because they all used the same paths in the first half, but in the second half when they're all destroyed, thats when they got lost

That doesn't look like Tiffany Thorton...
Great singers, but their acting could use some serious help here.
Not good
Omg the baker its such a bad actor
This show is better off with mediocre singers and fantastic actors. Here, we have a case of very good singers but actors who can't handle a Sondheim show.
This did suck I like the movie bettter and more
Oceana Pomeroy I love Into the Woods!! 🤗🤗
Ashely Bannick me too
Messy.
This is mostly talking barely singing.
The Baker's voice is irritating.
The bakers voice is really annoying.... Like ewwww
My school's performance was better than this.
Their voices are not that good!! 😝😝
So your voice is better huh?
