You are indeed a great teacher! Your pedagogical skills are amazing, and your voice is really assuring. Great visuals and graphics as well! I feel inspired to do a modification now, going to come back to this video.
Wow, thank you! This really means a lot. Shooting on vintage lenses really helped give my image just a little something extra. I call it "character" but it's hard to nail down the right terminology for it. Thanks again Andrew, I appreciate the support/encouragement!
I guess the focus rotation after modification stays the same as before? From what I understand, one benefit of cine lenses is having a longer focus rotation, for more precise manual focusing. Is there a way to modify to gain some degrees of extra rotation?
The focus rotation does remain the same after modification. You're right that the cine lenses provide the longer throw which really helps with focusing precision, that said, many vintage lenses do have a relatively "long" throw. Relative is subjective of course, but if you're familiar with the super short, electronic, focus throw of modern photo lenses the vintage lenses will be a welcome reprieve! :) I'm not familiar with any way to gain extra rotation, but adding gears to the focus ring does provide a tactile feel that is helpful and then you add a follow focus system to give you even greater control. You get a few characteristics of cine lenses without the cine lens price tag!
Shout out to the algo for recommending your channel. Just what I was looking for as I dive into this new world 🤝
