Which VATSIM advise would you give to me? Edit: many asked, so here's the link for ATC communication table forums.vatsim.net/topic/19867-made-a-list-of-what-to-say-to-atc-on-vatsim-for-beginners/
If you have the space in your setup and a port in your computer a cheap ish second monitor is a life saver when flicking through charts and other resources during the flight, you can also use it to have vPilot open so you can tune frequencies easier
even if the callsign is not yours, try to get at least a brief view of what the atc said so you know whats happening around you, especially when at an airport or approaching/departing
2:30, if you have multiple monitors you can have vpilot open whilst your flying and select the frequency on vpilot you need to tune to and right click on it then "Tune COM 1"
I think the most important thing to remember is that us controllers don't bite unless you really push it. From a controllers perspective, we know when you are new, and we will guide you if we have the time. If a controller gets snappy with you, they are probably juggling more than 20 aircraft at once which sounds easy, but it isnt. So for new pilots, best advice i can give is dont start at Gatwick or Heathrow for your first flight - You will get torn up if things arent quick. Try Edinburgh or Manchester for your first time, and know your aircraft! We are people too and we have all started in the exact same position regardless of how good we sound over the frequency! dont be afraid to give us a message if things are quiet on the network, if you ever see my name pop up over at Edinburgh, come say hello!
Also at 5:22 it was ATIS G, not metar G. Metar is a weather report independent of ATC. The controller gives ATIS which not only contains weather info but runways in operation etc.
I just found this video and I think it's really helpful and well put together! For starting out, I'd also recommend a smaller airport with less traffic - the controllers there will have more time for you and may help you through some struggles. At a large, busy airport with dozens of aircraft on the ground and in the air they will probably rather expect you to get your stuff done quickly and won't have time to accommodate tips.

pick a gate near the runway so you dont have to get taxi to holding point A1 via LMJKPLA! but instead taxi to holding point A1 via L
@@Kingsim87 Yeah, I got to this thought in a few flights

I already have extreme social anxiety, I stuttered like a m249 😭
@@fibecheee Same was with me
Year ago I just sit infront of my pc with 130BPM heartrate for 40 mins before managed to make a first contact with the controller.

Ah, oops
Don't worry, you'll learn too ;)
Rly useful video! I am gonna do my first vatsim flight soon and I am glad I watched this video. I haven´t thought about the fuel or callsign tips!
Thanks!
Delta one... Lima one... Lima, Mike and November. I remember the taxi instructions you were struggling with XD

Also for more realism most of us vatsimmers fly real life flights with their callsigns so we cant ‘come up’ with callsign and it adds realism
Yeah, but I said how I do it
Where can I get this list 5:03 ?

For the delta 1819 part, you can also simply say ''delta one eight one niner''
Yeah, but US controllers will say 18 19 anyway 😂💀
The CRAFT was a helpful tips. Thanks
