I used to mix thick stage blood with latex then lay it in clumps on some wrinkled plastic wrap to make some chunky bits of gore really quick cheap and easy

Was literally listening to the song Rain by Grandson from The Suicide Squad when the notification came up. Got back from an Avril Lavigne concert last night Grandson was her opening act and he sung the song both artists were a real treat. Exchange rates are definitely a drag. Still expensive, yes, but Blackwood is extremely difficult to work with and it's rare to find pieces of the appropriate size for these. As far as I know, only seven Blackwood puzzle boxes exist (I plan to make 13). Four of them were gifted to family and close friends, and I've always said that if anyone wants one of the others, they'll have to want them much more than me. So far, nobody has, and I'm fine with that. :)

Awesome idea unfortunately the paint job/latex let it down, using clear red inks and pigments would have made the blood look realistic.
