After watching this, I knew that I had to do this recipe as I was in the mood for Kalua pig. I had to find our pressure cooker first that we haven't used in 3 years. Luckily, I knew where it was at. We also had banana leaves on hand in the freezer. So we made this evening and it was so good. I love the crunch of the pork and broiling makes a difference. I love the fact that it took less than an hour to cook. Mahalo for sharing this with us!

I have had to learn to cook many of the local favorites that I could easily pick up from local eateries. I haven't lived in Hawaii for over 10 years, You learn to love a variety of foods growing up in Hawaii as it truly is the melting pot of the pacific. Thanks to you, I have learned to make so many more dishes that I ever thought I could make, especially the Chinese dishes. I can't find a decent Chinese restaurant around here. I do make the kalua pig in my slow cooker but can't find banana leaves. It really adds a special flavor.

Love the convenience and speed of the IP. I also brought back the red Hawaiian salt too. Do you know what’s the difference in flavor between the red and white Hawaiian salt? I also brought back some black lava salt too. Will get some frozen banana leaf from my local 99 Ranch market and liquid smoke today. Thanks for the easy recipe.

Oh, and I meant to say that by wrapping/using the Banana Leaves in this style of Kalua Pig, you add the flavors of a REAL Hawaii-style-in -the-IMU kind of roast Pig. The traditional Kalua Pork in the under ground oven is surrounded with Banana and Ti Leaves, and a boat load of Hawaiian Sea Salt. Can't get Ti Leaves other than in the tropics, so just Banana will do.

Love the combination of simplicity and taste. (Poor Dude has to taste-test everything. hehe)
My youngest sister and I, her roommate, and her bestie, watch House of the Dragons on Sunday evenings. Since it comes on at 9:00pm Eastern Time (we're in Pacific), there's always a dinner nosh associated with our evenings together. When I'm feeling better and the weather is cooler, I'll drive a charcoal grill in the back yard. Last night, Julie decided to fix chicken quesadillas ("easy peasy!"). For most of us that was via a countertop induction stove; for Mom (she's 98!), caretaker Alma fixed dinner in a non-stick frying pan on the main kitchen's electric range with butter sautéing. Cheese melting out and crisping around the edges. Julie's guac was spectacular!
To keep the kitchen work down (both Jules and I have back "issues"), she bought pre-cooked shredded chicken white meat. Drenched in guacamole, salsa, and sour creme (if you want), it was an easy and delightful pre-movie-night dinner. Don't forget to provide forks to layer guac (et alia) o'ertop the crisped quesadilla quarters (fingers won't do). I skipped the Crock-pot of Chili Con Queso, just 'cause. A raspberry-creamcycle was the perfect light desert (thanks, Jill).
