@Juan Gomez Tyra made a reported 3 to 6 million a year as a contracted Victoria's Secret model. One, people don't understand for most models fashion doesn't pay. You can work at Starbucks and make more than the average model. Tyra spent one year doing Paris/Milan fashion week ( 5 years altogether ) and became a supermodel in that one year. So much so the fashion industry said to themselves " This is the girl we're gonna use to dethrone Naomi " (which I don't agree with). First woman on GQ, first black woman on S.I. as a duo than solo. The oldest black supermodel on S.I. Vogue covers, Elle covers an international cosmetics campaign ads with Versace and Yves Saint Laurent. I don't know what Tyra would've had to do for people to put respect on her name?

Some other top models include: Louise Vyent, Tyra Banks, Adriana Lima, Veronica Webb, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Anna Bayle, Linda Evangelista, Karen Mulder and several more were top names in that time period!

In the 2000's she wasn't a top name, she got famous around the world for being a VS angel. But in the fashion industry there were other girls who were the top names like Gisele, Carmen, Karolina, Fernanda, Natalia. But not Adriana.

You can see that Tyra is enjoying herself on the runway and that makes it fun to watch. When she makes her turn at the end of the runway and strikes her pose I want to applaud ! She puts the " SHOW " in a fashion show.
They used to twirl, pivot in the 80s 90s. We will never get twirls pivots on the runway again. They're using using curvier women again they should let them do pivots again 🙏🙏🙏

She honestly made the clothes she was wearing seem more appealing. Some of these outfirs aren't all that interesting, but Tyra made them something special. Now THAT is good modeling.
I agree, people say she was showing off, i think she was having fun and making herself relatable to whoever was watching her, like yes she wanted you to see how good she looked, but that's how she sold the clothes, i think it's brilliant.

Well put. The runway walk during the supermodel era of the 90's has evolved and maybe I'm old fashioned but the confidence, presence and attitude isn't there. It's no longer a fashion " show " but just plain walking.

One of the factors in fantastic runway back then, is that you still had people in America who had some class, some taste, and a whole lot of chic. Can you spell "chic"? If you know there are folks in the world who understand your POV and love your aesthetic, like customers, it's more fun to test yourself, to push yourself, to another realm. Millennials killed fashion. They killed glamour. They damn near killed sex. The newer, younger kiddos have some passion for fashion, especially Boomer Fashion, but they have awful taste, which they pretend is full of irony. So much taste, and all of it bad.

Tyra does not get enough credit for her work as a runway model.
I think that is because the mainstream didn’t know enough about her.

I always thought Yasmeen Ghauri, Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen, Veronica Webb and Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista were the big money stars.
All had contracts with fashion brands or large US corporations for a product! Yasmeen Ghauri had Hermes and Lanvin!
Veronica Webb had Revlon for a couple years! Cindy Crawford had Revlon and Pepsi! Christy Turlington had Calvin Klein!
These stunning women made fashion in the 90's and shook the fashion world with their big contracts!
All the names above made millions of dollars while in the fashion business! All are considered legends in the fashion business!
Tyra Banks was in their league! Tyra had more interests than fashion and left the fashion business to start a TV talk show!
She was asked to lose 10 lbs and according to her at the time she already was 123 lbs so she instead geniusly decided to reinvent herself and do swimsuit/lingerie instead it was a brilliant move because Sports Illustrated and Victoria Secret really put her on the map

I didn't know there was such a thing as a gift for the cat walk, she's amazing. The confidence, the sassy combined with knowing exactly when and how to smile, the energy. I thought cat walking was all about being droll, I've never seen anyone like her on the cat walk. She actually causes me to notice and want the outfits!
See Jon Kortajarena for the men's collection. A lot of the boys have little personality, even those at the very tip top, who dominate the camera. I like Chico who is at least pretty. Mr Personality was always for me, Chad White. He smiled at us like he was up there but still one of the crowd. Two presences who can do anything, even scowl, and hold our attention were/are Tyson and Gandy. Both had no problems with Editorial and Covers. But Tyra was a favorite because of her face and her bosooms, and that she seemed to have curves. Lots of people who wear ladies clothes seem to have curves. Of course for supreme achievement in the service of fabulousness, no one can top La Linda. Jesus, reason enough for me to get out of bed. Damn, she was the girl we queens all wanted to be. Like Diana Ross.
Tyra is flirty and confident on the runway but she also is very high Fashion and can wear any hair style , any garment , she’s the perfect model .

@Methias I agree with you, but I will make a point that today's models have absolutely no training, finesse, or style to know how to show off the garment. Models of the 90's knew how to sell the garment, not sell themselves. Today it's all about put the garment on, walk up and down the runway, come back, change, and go back out. Fashion shows today are quite sloppy and lacking finesse, glamour, and style. For designers, editors, and photographers, going to a fashion show now is becoming a "task" rather than a real event, and we're all bored.

It isn't that impressive....unless the one's listed were doing it.
Always looked rehearsed on TB..the models i named did if effortlessly n with regal grace n eleganza. Tb herself said prior to going to Paris her momma n her sat down and watched VHS tapes of the women named on the runway.....mainly Pat Cleveland, Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons, Janice Dickinson n Naomi.
She's nothing but a copycat...at best...but it worked well when she was with VS.

Yes! She looks like she genuinely likes and has fun in the clothes, which makes her look good and so makes me think I could be that way in those clothes too. I thought that was the whole point of modeling. Most other marketing works that way; they sell you an ideal to show you how the merits of the product will affect you. From the comments on this video, apparently this style of modeling is out, which is sad and makes no sense to me.

I am a male model, and I have never seen any model male or female, including myself, live off yoghurt, coffee and cocaine; we eat a normal healthy diet and stay away from coffee in favour of water. I think that is your own perception of the modelling world, and it is simply not true.
I would agree that modelling is a 'tough' business at the start of one's career, and it certainly is not glamourous until you get to the top. It takes a lot of sacrifices to get to the top and stay at the top. Starving oneself and drinking coffee, yoghurt and taking cocaine will not enable a person to become a supermodel, which is every model's dream. Maybe modelling used to be like that. However, it isn't like this now.
I was a model from 19-21yo, and can certainly say that model's diets were not coffee and yoghurts (or coke*). I would be very jealous of what other guys were eating because they ate lots of junk food and drank fizzy drinks. I wasn't 'lucky' enough to have such a fast metabolism 😅
