Some techniques in certain styles do not work for everyone because of weight, size, strength, etc., so I need to find what works for me regardless of what style I practice. That takes time as continuous sparring develops that awareness. It's like finding out there are dozens of ways of stopping a punch like blocking, parrying, catching, hitting, dodging, bob and weave, etc but dont know what's best according to my bodies capabilities.

I learned martial arts as a kid, 50 years ago. I practice Winchester, Ruger and Browning forms. All work well in a street fight.

Martial arts starts with your choice of environment, way of moment to momentum intimacy, routines, standards, friends, venues, and then your awareness of yourself and situations, then your listening, observing, then your creative intuitive responses to disarm/deflect, then your response to necessary movements by being in the moment.
