@atcancino no that is not right, the circlip in the video is designed to be compressed into its joint on the shaft when forced. a standard circlip will be damaged if you attempt that maneuver. it must be removed with a circlip pliers. remember the standard circlip will be visible when parts are assembled , the clip in the video will not
Hey buddy...... cheers for that .... been a long time since I had one apart and I thought there was a C Clip in there.... but could not remember how I used t pull them apart. Will tear into it now! cheers S
If the ring is not holding onto the inner grove or inside edge of the cv joint, the shaft will slide out and separate. You will be stuck not able to move. Second thing I have learned, just because the cv does not click, does not mean it is bad. A Rough CV is bad and cannot be used.
@kzkevin888 the impact gun i use is a cheap 40 euro gun. i also used breaker bar on spindle nut. i find impact guns cheap or expensive only work where there is no absorption of the impact as on a solid fixing. any absorption through mounting rubbers or drive-shaft movement as with the spindle nut and they are useless. all the best
Packing the cavity on the cv where the axle fits, once you push the cv back onto the axle, hydraulic pressure will force the grease into the cv. If you are stuck for retaining clips for the cv boot, you can use gas welding rod, go round twice and twist it off to tension, bit of an art not to over do it, but done right does the job. Jaggernaut699 states the boot was torn at the end, it wasn't, its just being sucked in. as the joint was extended.
I use a hose clamp to compress the ring. tighten down then take back a 1/4 to 1/2 turn then hit cv onto shaft with hammer. less chance of snapping the ring.
@backstreetmechanic really good video mate helped me alot just want to know can you use a cable tie or jubilee clip instead of those clips you used in the video
Okay guys, I have done lots of CV joints in my time. I usually compress the clip to the point, I can use a mallet to hammer on the joint which compressed the clip. NOW I have never had a joint separate...until today. Never in my 15 years, has it been a problem. I am now beginning to think, have what I have done, not totally 100% right? The rings is to prevent the shaft from pulling out of the inner bearing race. IS there a technique to compress the retainer clip before hammering the joint?
Nice video, just should of mentioned NOT to play with the boot n bend it all the way to one side it's not ment to be angled like that. You tore the whole side of the boot open at the end of the video...
people love to hit the balls..use a hose clamp to schrink the clip or use a clamp style, who clamps the rings of a piston to put in the cylinder or are you tapping it on as well, I can change the boot without taken off the cv out of hub.and without any ,any stress on the balls, just some thoughts....goedendag
Trap for young players. Dont put that ring on and your car will drive about 200m before the shaft pulls out of the gearbox. Had a nice walk to work though.
Was taking the cv off my 90 civic and needed to figure out why it didn't just slide off before beating on it. Thanks for posting this video.
excellent video, thank you sir. to get the outer CV off i used a crankshaft pulley behind the axle nut and Bob's your Auntie !!

How did you remove the CV joint??
Onde posso encontrar esta junta
Nyc
thats a grand accent you from tipp? great insight thanks
Why can't you pack the grease before you put the cv joint on the shaft?

wasn't splitting it was just folded in.
He tore it at the end lol
i was thinking what about the boot put it on 1st lol
you can, probably better to do so in hind sight.

Title say REMOVAL, but video showing how to INSTALL.
You have to know how to put the grease , you are doing it wrong !!
