    A little info on flooring: Most laminates have a MDF core so they are "water resistant" and require a perimeter seal with a moulding, like quarter round, and sealant to create that resistance; whereas VCT (LVP) planks are vinyl all the way through, so they are "waterproof" and do not require the perimeter seal. Also, VCT is normally the same color all the way through, so darker colors hide gouges a little better than laminates do. Having kids and animals, vinyl composite tile (luxury vinyl plank) is definitely the way to go. Hope that helps in your decision!
    And the hand scraped door is a must! Love your channel!

    • @shopshop144
      @shopshop144 2 года назад +1

      Or use real wood which has the ability to be repaired. And if needed or wanted, you get it sanded and you can change the color. Plus, it should last 50+ years.

    • @lauravickers1429
      @lauravickers1429 2 года назад

      Water resistant is still not good for the climate that they are in. Snow gets on the floor constantly during the winter and it will break down quickly! I live in coastal Texas and the humidity ruined ours so no unless you live in a dry warm area laminate is not the floors for you unless you plan to change out floors periodically and have the money to do so. We have plank vinyl it is the best floors we could have ever asked for. Durable and last forever.

    If you like waisting money go with laminate. After 3 years the Pergo we had installed looked like crap. Surface was scratched and dull looking. Installed 3/'4" oak gunstock color from Home Depot. 8 years later still looks brand new. With kids, unless you take your shoes off at the door , my as well just leave the sub floor down and save your money

    Your kitchen exhaust pipe: Use Roxul insulation on all 4 sides of pipe (it’s ok if it touches its 100% fire proof) then install a poly vapour barrier on the bottom of your wood framing, then drywall. Then install a outside exhaust cover with flaps
    on, so when shut off the cold air remains outside. You can also buy 6” insulated exhaust pipe, hope this helps 👍

    Love following the progress on your house! We look forward to each video! I’m a flooring contractor in SoCal- been doing floors for over 30 years…. With your wet/damp environment you might want to consider NOT using flooring with MDF as the core. If you can find one that is solid vinyl and lay it over a 6 mil plastic sheeting it should be bullet proof for your family, animals and against moisture. DM with any questions and keep up the amazing work!!

    Actually Mellisa there is a scratch repair kit for laminate flooring that does work and that you really can’t tell where the damage initially was after you repair it, it’s very very good. I also use foam pads on the feet of all my furniture that sits on top of the laminate and it really does help to avoid those scratches.
    As for laminate not blowing out when wet, I must admit the only one that has ever truly worked for me has been the vinyl backed type, because they truly are waterproof. I have that in my hot tub cabin. It constantly gets wet and has never popped or blown out. However the laminate that I have in the kitchen has bubbled, chipped and blown out, in front of the sink, which is very frustrating, especially when I paid a lot extra after being guaranteed it’s tough, waterproof and durable. But, more importantly, if it’s in your budget, Make sure you have nice thick laminate underlay to place under your laminate flooring or fit underfloor heating because it is very cold to stand on, especially in the winter and especially when you have concrete base.
    Finally, Tell Eli that all of your subscribers friends from around the world wish him well and hope he gets well soon. He’s a little gem bless. I’m from the U.K., but I know he’s loved across the rest of the world too.

    Little drywall tip in pantry. Always use green board on all sides on box around the duct coming from exterior wall.Best Insulation on that area around duct is aluminum
    faced R 19 with aluminum facing duct. If at all possible, tape the seams with aluminum duct tape. This will give you a air tight seal as well as added condensation protection for your drywall. We have to do all exhaust or heated duct going to or from exterior wall by building code.

Now you could probably save by using a tank blanket but, you'll still run out of water if using hot water in multiple taps at one time. Consider it research them and good luck.

    Forgot to comment on your flooring sample and scratch test. It looks like a good color since it has some white. That will help to broadcast the surrounding or ambient light. Could not tell from the video if the grain was raised nor if the grain was narrow or wide. The raised grain will scratch easier and it can be harder to sweep or vacuum. Make sure you buy a good vacuum for vinyl floor with raised grain. My nickles worth.

    Pretty much any laminate, wood or vinyl floor is going to scratch or gouge.
    Tile & concrete are going to be less likely to show damage, but they are ALOT colder on the tootsies.
    Definitely put felt pads on the furniture that slides around if not using any rugs.
    The water resistance of laminate flooring is only as good as the installation.
    Making sure seams are good and tight and placing latex/silicone around the edges, if the installation instructions call for it, helps the water resistance.
    You guys have done an awesome job so far and can't wait to see the finishes you choose come together.

    I don’t know if y’all have thought about tile but we have the tile that looks like wood planks. I love it! It’s almost indestructible. Totally waterproof. Anyways, just thought I’d throw it out there. I can send you pics of mine if you want? Y’all are doing a fantastic job! On the house and your family! Hope Eli gets to feeling better!

    I have vinyl flooring through my whole house! Love it! No scratching! The dishwasher had a leak and never fazed the flooring. Best choice I ever made and everybody that has seen it thinks it’s real wood at first.

    Taking time off for family and to plan is always good. So is using a light color on the ceiling. Light bouncing off the ceiling lights up the room. A dark ceiling results in a spotlight effect and a dark room.

    My family is all the way over in SC. My 5 yr old son had a soar throat, miner fever, and stomach ache for a few days at the end of last wk. We ended up all getting it. We picked it up at an RV park. Illness sure does travel fast. Thankfully we are a healthy family so we were able to kick it pretty quick. Congrats Naveya. I hope everyone stays healthy or recovers quickly.

    Congratulations to your daughter on her learners permit. From other channels that I watch the mud and taping is the worst. Definitely think if you can get help to do it would be worth it. Save you lots of time and mess.
    Re flooring we put tile on our common areas because of water damage prior and also warming with laminate floors. We also put luxury vinyl in bedrooms. The scratches I was able to fix easily. Also water spills it says 36 hours protection. Make sure you get ones that says 💯 water proof not water resistant. The tile flooring has small grout lines, easy to clean and keeps house cool in the summer heat in Las Vegas and absorb heat well during winter. Having 2 dogs it was great to have the tiles as it’s easy to wipe up and not worry the dog nails will scratch the floors.

    Your sweet daughter has the perfect practice location. She can drive around that large parking area, practice backing up and maneuvering. Lovely place for parallel parking between two barrels etc. Long ago I did that for a couple hours a day, each time becoming more confident and stretching my ability. Oh my, to be 16 again.

    I am so impressed with you two building this home. We just built a new home but at our age we could no do all the work as you all did. I would of loved to have been able to do what you did. So impressive! Glad Jeramy’s back is holding up. I wish all parents had such love & caring for their children. It is just wonderful to see in this day & age. Best wishes for your continued health, safety & well being.

    So sweet… the sheep snoring, kitten purring, horses eating…. Wow! Learners permit!! Make sure mirrors are always set correctly for your body in the seat…not mom’s or dad’s😘. The best lesson from my great, driving teacher in high school, was always/constantly be checking all 3 mirrors! Also, look several cars ahead on the road before you to know what could be coming as a surprise… THAT advice prevented several wrecks for me throughout my driving history…those crazy drivers!!🤪

    Congrats on the drywall work being mostly done… soon and very soon. We used to keep one of our older, but serviceable car for that teaching our kids. Then at a point in the learning we would get a trusted friend to go driving with them too. It gave them a second opinion and us some feedback on how our training was going. The hardest part was learning to be quiet as they became more competent… Neveah is doing great… Eli is the bounce back boy… you can’t keep him down for long.

    Beautiful family. Your hard work is paying off. Good to have time out and chill…. “ The time has come, the walrus said, to do many things”…. ( A quote on the first release of Trivial pursuits) and as I family you will/ are thriving from all your different activities and new learned skills. Wow, what a pleasure to be able to take a peek into your lives. 😱🙏❤️

    My Daddy was a Police officer and he was my Driving Instructor. I have only had 1accident and 1 ticket. Both times I wasn’t found at fault. Ticket dismissed.. learning from my Daddy was a blessing. My Daddy taught my son also, but it was my oversight that got my son his license.

    Love, love, love the hand scrapped door! It has so much character. It was great too see that Eli was feeling much better by the end of your video. Congratulations Neveah!! It’s exciting to see you learning something new. Melissa as a hardwood floor owner, there are colored pens that are designed to fill in scrapes and scratches. It gives my floors a little more texture and covers well so I forget they're there. I truly love them! They come in handy with a hubby, 1 of 2 boys, and 2 dogs when we moved into our new home. Great job on the drywall!! I know ya'll are happy to almost be done with it.

    Oh my goodness!🥰 everything's great. Just one thing I would use marble , tile or terracotta in the kitchen floor . 6 ft of stone at the main entrance leading into the great room. Using the most durable materials once in muddy, Sandy, wet area will mitigate mold and prevent wear in high traffic areas🤑🤔😏
