    The structure of the video is a bit iffy, but I kept the in-game story stuff mostly to the end so people who want to play the story can watch the majority without being spoiled. I warn you in the video when major spoilers begin. Have fun watching the video!

    The Longhouse Emperors always fascinated me. It's crazy to think that the Reachmen, of all races, were once rulers of the Cyrodiilic Empire.
    If someone were to tell that story to an Imperial in the Fourth Era, they'd probably think you're high on skooma.

    The most ironic part of ESO is how Varen destroyed the most stable version of the Empire (at least it was that for a few decades) and that indirectly led to the most disastrous time in Tamriel's history. All in the name of Imperial pride.

    • @ImperialKnowledge
      @ImperialKnowledge  8 месяцев назад +47

      To be fair, it seems Tamriel would have headed for disaster anyway, if Leovic had been allowed to complete the project then Tamriel would be in deep shit anyway. If we just didn't have Mannimarco deceiving Varen things may have been fine tho.

    • @Jaz45-cw8bc
      @Jaz45-cw8bc 8 месяцев назад +17

      The blame for that falls on Manimarco, not Varen.

    It's wild that not many content creators acknowledge eso lore. Before playing it, I had the impression that it was not good or not worth it but now that I'm actually playing the game and realizing that the lore is actually good, it's nice that you're exposing it to more people

    • @miavileunevue2463
      @miavileunevue2463 8 месяцев назад +4

      My theories as to why few people cover ESO lore are either:
      A: They aren't aware ESO is adding mountains of genuinely good lore to the franchise.
      B: They don't play the game, or can't get into it for different reasons (I was like this once. Expecting it to play just like previous TES games was my fault and once I got past that and learned how to correctly play it, it became like second nature).
      C: They've been taught that ESO lore is bad because the game had a pretty bad reputation for a while so it tainted all things related to the game, so they purposefully avoid it.
      I've seen popular TES lore youtubers talk about their distain for ESO because of the "lore" it added for different crown store mounts and I'm unconvinced that's actually the source of their distain, because let's be honest, no one gives a shit about the lore reason as to why you're riding a glowing purple zombie bear into town.

    • @pacosalvs13

      @miavileunevue2463 100% I was like that before, at launch everyone shitted on ESO and that made me ignore it for years but now that I'm actually playing I made a complete 180, I really hope more people give ESO a chance

    This dynasty of Reachmen seem to be based off of the Gruethengi, Therungi and Gepids. They became Ostrogoths, Visigoths and Gepids.
    I think these 3 long house emperors represent the Gothic race as the Goths were major Romaphiles.
    Gotta remember they wanted to integrate and assimilate into the empire they accidentally actively destroyed as they worked with the cultures of the Romans and even used local aristocrats and Roman mercenaries for support.
    Or more tenuously you could represent the first Emperor with the Goths the second with the Lombards in Italy and the third with franks. Cause despite the Germanic origins they mixed into and assimilated into the Roman cultures.

      It was long overdue, as this was one of my favorite pieces of lore for a long time. I wrote a whole script for it a couple of years ago. And then literally the day before I wanted to start recording it Bethesda had to announce ESO blackwood where you would find out "the secrets of the longhouse emperors" so I had to wait and then never got around to it.

    The Longhouse Emperors very much bring to mind the Manchu conquest of China. Early Qing emperors being both Manchu and Chinese, and finding some of the brightest spots of each. They brought both stability and dynamic rule. Until they didn't, anyway.

    The Longhouse emperor's should've tempered their expectations. Expecting an Aedra worshipping society to immediately accept Daedra worship was foolish; it should've been done piecemeal.
    Step1: legitimise the Dunmer pantheon. Morrowind accepts the worship of Azura, Mephala and Boethiah, so simply argue that "if Morrowind was good enough for the empire, their pantheon should be too. We cannot tread upon the religious rights if the Dunmer in our empire." People grumble, but can't argue it.
    Step 2: legitimise Malacath. Same principle really "Orcs have settlements all over the empire and serve in the Legion, they should be allowed to worship their deity freely". End of discussion, time to move on.
    Step 3: legitimise the more acceptable Daedra such as Meridia, Hircine and Clavacus Vile. These daedra are generally seen as either good, neutral or unimporty, making them easier to swallow for most.
    Step 4: allow worship of Hermeus Mora in mage colleges and other institutions of learning. They're pretty much the only ones who'd be interested in worshipping him, and if you limit it to such institutions, the common man won't think twice about it.
    The only problems you're gonna have is with Molah Bal and Mehrunes Dagon. Those are just unequivocally evil, so you'll have issues convincing people of their worth.
    As for Sheogorath, well, the people who worship him barely understand what laws are anymore, so why should they care, or why should you care about them? Just ignore it, that's a problem that deals with itself

      The reach men often dabble with daedra, while interesting, is ultimately unfortunate for them as they are seen as evil by their neighbors (primarily Nords).

    I'm big supporter of Longhouse Emperors. Especially Leovic. Sure... 4 Ambitions plot was dangerous but all 3 Emperors gave Cyrodiil stability and chance to grow to it former glory. While Userper Varen (I refuse to call him emperor) came, brutaly killed his former ally, made a mess and left Cyrodiil to it's own to find Amulet of Kings to maybe fix the mess he made.
