    For many years I played a Sankyo Silversonic: I loved it! It had a warm, full sound, and a quick responsive head. A few weeks before this performance, it was stolen, and I moved to a Muramatsu EXRBE. It has a fine sound too, but I was not quite at ease with it at this stage. I like open tone holes for jazz and blues.

    Making learning fun is inspiringly contagious and encouraging.Mr.Teacher, you approach improv. from a whole language musical method approach, which is incipiently devoid of complex rules akin to when an infant is learning to speak - without inhibition or restraint. I give you more credit than words can ever say!

    It's called flutter tongue.
    Just roll your tongue (like rolling your 'r's) while you're playing. To begin, it may be easier to start by rolling your tongue, then directing your air flow as you normally would play (all away from the flute) then bringing the flute to your mouth and playing! Takes a bit of practice but it's worth it :D

    Hi Elizabeth, you are quite right: I do this several times as I am keeping things simple for beginner practice. As an expert, please play the chords as you hear them there in every 2nd measure of each chorus, and also in measure eight of the first 5 choruses, and too in measures 7 and 8 of the final 3 choruses. As well,you can follow the more advanced turn-around chords! Have fun!

    Hi Jim, I have been studying the flute for 3 years, this year 2020, my teacher has asked me to find a Blues song, I think my level is intermediate, he wants me to memorize it ! and not follow any sheet, this scares me a lot because my memory I believe it has starting to show the age...can you help me in finding something, any suggestion I will appreciate it ! thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I been following this video..........love your playing !

  • @daikaijo
    @daikaijo 7 лет назад

    Hi Crystal: this is called flutter-tonguing, and is a rolled "r" or "t", as in Spanish or French. Use the tip of the tongue as if saying "dr" or "tr" to produce a roll or flutter while playing your chosen note. I find it easier in the higher register. It isn't that hard to do!

    Are you playing an open hole flute that you can get those slurred up and down runs? Do you use your embouchure as well to blow them down?. I play a closed hole flute and runs have much more distinct notes, quite difficult to slur them into one another as you are doing here.

  • @megustacrys

    What technique is that on 2:02 ? I cant seem to get that sound on my flute

    • @drnarwhal2888
      @drnarwhal2888 5 лет назад +2

      I think the technique you are talking about is called fluttertongue. If you want to try it out, you're in luck because it is fairly easy. All you have to do is roll your R's while blowing with the proper embouchure. It will stagger the air in a really cool way.

    • @annikagibbons4146
      @annikagibbons4146 5 лет назад +1

      Dr Narwhal what if you can’t roll your r’s

    • @drnarwhal2888
      @drnarwhal2888 5 лет назад +2

      @@annikagibbons4146 then you can't do it. Not unless you become a god at doubletonging which is a whole different thing. But even doubletonging won't be nearly as fast as fluttertongue.

    • @gingechicken7394
      @gingechicken7394 5 лет назад

      The weird rolling noise is him rolling is R's. It's more common for brass instruments, but right now I'm the only person in our band, as a flute, that can do it sustainably. It just takes practice. The other ways he's changing the sound is just by manipulating the air stream.
