I live in an apartment and have no idea how others may have cleaned this oven. I was about to self clean tomorrow, and had no idea. Thank you! I'm glad I found this!
Just wanted to let you know that many higher end oven manufacturers are now recommending you DO NOT line an oven. My husband ruined a 2-year old convection oven putting a liner in, we forgot that it said don't line it in the manual, we had to purchase a new one. It was an expensive lesson to remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions. My current oven also states you should never line the oven. I love your videos and have been watching a bunch of them! Thanks for producing them!
Thank you for the information and for your kind words on my videos, I appreciate! Following the manufacturer's instructions should always be the first priority.
Thank you so much for that invaluable information, you save my life! I was planing to leave my house next time I self clean my oven,!!! And some time I clean with chemicals. I can’t Believe no too many people know this. thank you so much again God bless you
Excellent info! I was 1 hr into self cleaning, did not pull out oven from cabinets, was like, let me cut this thing off sheesh, 1000 degrees is serious lol

And I’m on charge of cleaning all apartments move outs and omg I knock off 3 bed 2 baths in less than 3 hours! I was very focused, and I put to the test all your tips and tricks! Was so helpful ! I had no idea how to clean my oven and no idea about the dangers of the self-cleaning function - so glad I watched this, you probably saved my apartment!!!
Thank you for this. I have never used the self cleaning feature on an oven before nor did I even know how it worked but was thinking about using it soon. Thanks to you, I learned how it works and the potential risks. I think I'll just clean my oven by hand.
I had a self cleaning oven once and it worked great. I left it behind when I sold my house. At my new house I bought a new oven but it is not self cleaning. I was really missing my old oven but after seeing this, OMG I'm so scared I've stopped looking for a self cleaning one now and will just keep using what I have. Thanks so much!
After years of neglect, I finally decided today to clean my oven using the baking soda / vinegar approach. It certainly helped, but I'm still having to put a fair amount of elbow grease into it to get the remaining gunk off. I'm thinking when this is finally done, I'm going to be much more diligent about cleaning the oven, if not after every use, then at least much more frequently than once every 20 years!
I have to clean my oven and went online and found this video. You mentioned a recipe for baking soda and vinegar for cleaning the oven using the heat of the oven. I looked in notes and could not see it. Did I miss it? I would really like to give this method a try before I use the alternative. I really appreciate the good tips! Thank you!
Thanks so much for reaching out. Here is an easy recipe to clean your oven: Mix baking soda + enough water to make a paste. Finger paint the paste on the areas that are dirty. Spray with vinegar. Allow paste to set for 2 minutes and then scrub with a non-scratch scrub sponge.
I started to clean my oven with the self cleaning Thingie, but it started to smell funny, so I googled it and i.m glad I did, WOW!!! 1,000 degrees, anyways needless to say I stopped the cleaner cycle and I'll just do it by hand tomorrow. Oh no, sorry about that. The paste is just baking soda and add water until it has a paste consistency. If you give it a try let me know how it works out for you : )
Thank you for this. Most of the information I already knew. But your anecdotal stories and details helped me learn even more. A friend of mine “cleaned” my oven once using cleaning agents and I was still thinking about trying the self-cleaning function. How bad could it be? Well, after watching this video I absolutely will not do that. I’m going to use your baking soda and vinegar solution, which I had heard of before, and work on it. Since it’s your recommendation, I trust it much more now. You really are an expert and a professional.
I purchased a GE self cleaning oven 11 years ago and have never used that function because I was afraid it would get out of hand. After listening to this? I will continue to hand clean.
Thank you Angela for your videos. This one made me look at my gas oven manual. I will never use that 1000 degrees self clean. I am going to use the steam clean feature with water, plus I have ordered a nonstick silicone mat to catch the nasty stuff. I have wheat berries and I will be milling them into flour to bake bread in my newly cleaned oven.
Thank you for this video. I was going to leave the self cleaner on and go to bed… I just turned it off. It’s an old oven and who knows it could have caught on fire while I was sleeping. I just had it running for an hour and a half and the house smells
+Johnny's Cousin Steve self cleaning of it may be the way you want to go for a small rental house, the key is to make sure that there’s plenty of ventilation all the way around and that it’s not sit inside a cabinet or a cupboard where it could catch the areas nearby on fire. Either way let me know what you end up with. I’m curious to know. What you choose. 👍
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you, Angela! I’m replacing the range that’s there in between cabinets. No circulation. I’m going to get one without the self cleaning. I don’t want my tenants using it especially without fully understanding the heat and possible fumes involved.
I LOVE your videos! I have learned so much from you. We blew our oven motherboard doing the self-clean cycle ($400 repair), so we will never use that feature again. As far as the oven liner, that is great, but the sides of our oven are the problem. We eat a keto diet, so we cook a lot of bacon, constantly spattering the side walls with grease. Any great ideas other than constantly cleaning the oven? 😕 Thank you!

??? You are such a find! I have a a gas stove (GE Cafe - 14 yrs old) with a self-cleaning convection oven that is electric; the element is exposed, not under the base. I have read not to use silicon liners. Most say yes and some say no. Some say you shouldn’t broil with silicon liners at the bottom. My manual only says not to use aluminum foil because it can get sucked into the fan. You think it’s safe? You’ve certainly convinced me never to use self-clean feature again😀
It sounds like the liners could get stuck like the foil as mentioned in the manual. I suggest you reach out to GE and ask: www.cafeappliances.com/support/contact-us
I rent and have no idea what the history of my oven is, so I suppose I should clean it by hand but it is in bad shape, I will try your tips and revisit if it doesn't come clean. =)
Oh my gosh, thank you for the move it away from the wall tip! It’s my first time with a self clean oven and that’s not something I would have thought of.
Wow, what an oven boss. Thank you so much. Been renting a home for so long, tried to use oven after about 1.5 years into rent agreement and so many fumes. Noticed Oven had to be cleaned. Tried with basic cleaners (non-oven cleaners) and then noticed Oven had self-clean feature. Luckily I have very high flow fans so I ran them to blow outside while oven self cleaned. Results are still pending. What concerned me was the final note from video that it may overwhelm oven ie. 4 hours at 1000 degrees. So much for trying to make some bread! :)
There are some cases where the self-cleaning feature has worked wonderfully for some people. And if it works correctly it's fabulous. We do however recommend our cleaning customers buy those eco-friendly, reusable oven liners for $11-$13 amzn.to/2VrjrWz and just keep one in the bottom of each oven. You can cook anything you want, pie, yams anything that boils and bubbles over and it drips on the oven liner not the oven itself. When the oven is cool you slide out the liner and shake out the debris in the trash and wipe down the inside of the oven ceiling and walls with a damp sponge with a pinch of dish soap, and your oven is as good as new. Wipe off the oven liner and replace in the bottom of the oven. You'll never have to use the self-cleaning feature or harsh chemicals again. BAM!
This is why I'm here! I Googled how the self clean oven feature works because I've never done it before. Now I will never ever use it. Scares me to death! I'm totally fine with good old fashioned elbow grease.
Fumes can be really bad if you're using a self-cleaning cycle and you had previously used an aerosol spray. Ventilation is the key. (NOTE - I would not recommending running a self-cleaning cycle if you are not going to be nearby to monitor the situation, just in case something like a cabinet fire happens.)
I just Moved into an apartment in the oven is filthy. I was going to do the self clean method but now I am absolutely not going to. I’m too afraid! It also has a steam cleaning function but maybe I’ll pass on that as well. Thanks for this video.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Ive only ever done the chemical spray or the baking soda thing at home and other cleaning jobs and both worked fine. One of my newer accounts asked me to fo the self cleaning on their oven, thet have a half used chemical cleaner that must have been used by previous cleaner and i did not feel comfortable with the self cleaning feature ( a friend of mine had to call the fire department for a self cleaning oven problem). Im glad I went with my instincts and used baking soda instead!
This is an outstanding instruction video, Angela! I absolutely will try the baking soda and vinegar option especially in the winter since opening the windows to clear the air doesn't work well when it is -15ºF outside. And, yes everyone, if there is major spillage inside the oven it helps to manually clean up as much as you can before running the cleaning cycle to minimize the volume of smoke and ash generated.
Unless you knew exactly where the panel was and which circuit breaker to open - remember when your house is on fire your first job is to get you and everyone else the hell out of there. Firefighters are trained to attack the fire and not always will they know where to look for the circuit breaker panel. When this happened to me when my oven caught fire, I *did* know where to go and pulled the main breaker to the entire house killing all power and then hitting the fire with the extinguisher. Quick thinking but since I designed the house and was the original occupant, I happened to know exactly where to go. Not everyone will.
Sure but a fire is not only fueled by the electric once it started. Seen it. My oven stands alone , at least 6 inches from other items even when baking something at 450. Doesn’t look bad-in fact gives a sense of security.
Thank you. All the tips are really helpful. And it was a very nice thing to hear at the end- "leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it." 🙂
Lmao when I was 12 I used the self cleaning option out of curiosity and I was so shook. The oven started to produce mad black smoke and the inside of the oven looked red af from the glass. I had no idea that would happen.
Hello thank you so much for that video cuz I was just about to use my self cleaning oven and I was trying to find a video to tell me what I should use to spray but not use the self cleaning oven together I had a feeling that I shouldn't use both but I prayed about it and you answer my question thank you so much I look forward to seeing more of you videos
I have one of the liners. Be sure to remove it before using the self-cleaning feature. My spill problem is where the oven door meets the oven floor. This area doesn’t clean with the self-cleaning feature. I’ll try your method. My mother always used ammonia in a glass container.
Hello, I have a couple of questions. First, my landlord brought me an older self cleaning oven recently (It's a used Whirlpool 30" range, my previous oven did not have a self clean feature). Can I still use the baking soda/vinegar solution on the walls (and more so the roof) of the oven without it ruining the special coating on the inside of the oven for self cleaning? My second question, what is the easiest way to clean the roof/top of the oven?
I would not use any chemicals or cleaning solutions if you want to apply the self-cleaning cycle because of the high temperatures and the dangers of toxic fumes. If you want to clean the oven manually, here's the video on this - ruclips.net/video/ZfHTwxHeK14/видео.htmlsi=sM1byao4NGGgnrxS
Just had to replace my range after just 9 years when one of the relay boards died. (Replacement cost of the relay board was quoted as over $800). The repairman said it had likely gotten fried by the high temps of the self cleaning feature. And I had only used the self cleaning feature about 5 times over the life of the oven because I had been told early on that it was hard on computer components in the range.
@@AskAngelaBrown I am tired this evening and didn't do the best job of explaining myself. I meant my natural gas oven has a self cleaning cycle. You were talking about electricity based ovens in this video. Do you have experience with the natural gas equivalent? It seems running it would be the best, wipe it down after it has cooled and then going forward the silicone mats you suggest makes sense to me.
Baking soda + enough water to make a paste. Finger paint it on the areas that need to be cleaned. Let is set for 2 min. Scrub with a non-scratch scrub sponge. It's easy.
@@AskAngelaBrown Yes i am talking about the oven. Is it ok to leave it soak after the steam process? Because otherwise the steam process was not effective.
Yes, and that would have been the first go to for an electrical fire. The catch is the homeowner had wall to wall shelving in the garage with stuff on them and nobody could find the breaker box including me. Note to self: Don't ever block the breaker box just in case you might need it.
Online. It was there in 48 hours. All I had to do was flip the breaker, unplug it, unscrew the heating element from the back of the oven, slide it out, detach the electrical and reattach it to the replacement and screwed it back in. It Was about 10 minutes worth of work.
Thanks Angela, some clarity on oven cleaners in self cleaning ovens. Now I’m wondering if what I heard was true; that oven spray damages the weave around the door of a sc oven. I had a client keep insisting I run her self clean program but it was so dirty it caught on fire, even after me scrapping a layer off the pan.
Did it now. Not because l wanted to clean it, but because the heating is broken, l was freezing and 1000 degress are useful! Anyway it removed some stuff l guesd. The stench was unbearable so l had to open the windows !!!@@@@@##@#@
We didn’t know where the breaker box was located. Self-cleaning ovens are great when they are installed properly. You have to monitor them if you are going to use them. Cleaning by hand definitely comes with fewer risks. 👍
Thank you for the very informative video! I feel you just saved us from lots of oven expenses and a dangerous fire hazard. We like the natural non toxic way and your suggestion of the vinegar and baking soda was perfect. Thank you!
Well, you just may have saved our house. We thought about using the self-cleaning option, but decided to hold off. Now we are remodeling our kitchen and I decided to pull the oven out, only to find out the electric oven wire was undersized. It should have been #10 AWG on a 30amp breaker, but when I opened it, it was installed with #16 AWG, ( which is smaller. the smaller the number AWG the bigger the size of wire) from the wall to the through the flex conduit to the unit. And the unit back was almost tight against the wall and sides. We'll use a safer way of cleaning. We both Thank you!
We're in a rental; I'm buying a new oven. I can tell someone used oven spray and oven self-cleaning feature. The fumes it gives off are horrible. I don't want that on my food either. Best way I've found - wipe out with Dawn dish soap and water when the oven is still warm but not hot. If the stains don't come off, usually they come off the next round. I also loved the steam clean function - not toxic and it helped:)
Very good tips! As a maintenance technician and appliance repair technician. I’ve seen the scary results myself. Thank you for the much needed video. Actually may have saved some lives.
If it's not an oven that is built into the cabinets and is a stand alone - keeping it far enough from the cabinets to "breathe" may prevent a fire in your house too. :-)
Last week, I cleaned my oven by the baking soda/water/vinegar/elbow grease method, and I was so proud of how it came out (nearly pristine) that I posted a photo on Facebook. Yes, yes I do need a life, why do you ask?
@@AskAngelaBrown LOL! If so, it will be my fourth one. I'm posting here from my personal channel, but I also have two for different aspects of my own business, book editing and retreat presenting. I'm way behind on it due to health issues, but hope that I can gradually rebuild my strength and get back to it. For now, cleaning the oven is a truly major project for me, one that leads to days of rest afterwards.
Meile oven had a very expensive model which had a self cleaning programme.. Thank goodness I bought the model without it. Thanks for all your good advice 💕
Thank you for this you just saved me. I used off oven cleaner on my burners and because the fumes where so bad I was going to use the self cleaning cycle on the oven. My sons and I have horrible asthma and this would have been really really dangerous. Back to backing soda and hydrogen peroxide which by the was works MUCH better than the baking soda and vinegar. I really need to stop trying to find easier ways around things. With lung issues I need to be more careful with my family's health.
I don't know if my oven was cleaned with products by the previous owners. How long do you think you should wait until it's safe to try the self cleaner in case they used product?
If you start to use the self cleaning oven and you get a horrible toxic smell in the house abort the mission. Your the oven will be locked due to the self cleaning cycle. Flip the breaker or unplug the stove (Flipping the breaker switch is usually easier to get to.) Wait until the oven cools down and don't use the self-cleaning feature.
Thank thank you THANK YOU! You are the first person to make any sense about oven cleaning after all the videos I watched!!!! You know your stuff. Thanks for sharing
Just saying. Sounds too dangerous to use and if it eats up your heating element so why is it even a feature? Was getting started to do and backed down esp w this 105 degree California weather.
Yes and the self-cleaning method can still be used. BUT - big but here, PLEASE monitor the self-cleaning cycle. Stay in the home and be prepared in case something weird (like a fire) happens. Know where the breaker box is. Have a fire extinguisher nearby. Have 911 preprogrammed in your phone in case of emergency. Make sure you have the address of the home you're cleaning in case you have to call for help. Those types of things.
I used the self cleaning feature and it resulted in a crackled appearance to the exterior paint and it also warped the plastic display screen. I had no idea it got that hot!
Maybe FIRE? When you have a fire and a house filled with smoke, the fire department will put a hole somewhere to get rid of the smoke to see what they are dealing with. My friend a retired fire Captain told me this just yesterday, because I asked him, why they put a hole in roofs or walls, now I know.
I just used my self-cleaning feature and tried to open the oven door but it wouldn't open so I was wondering if it had melted itself on to the body of the stove! I decided to check youtube and found your video and boy, did I learn a LOT! I wish I saw the video before, I would have never used this feature! Now I know I will not do it again! Thank you so much for making this very informative video. The information was very clear and you were easy to listen to. Thanks again.
The oven door has a lock that keeps anyone from opening the door until the self-cleaning oven cycle is completely cooled down. This prevents people from opening a hot oven and having extreme heat blast them in the face.
Easy off spray down the inside of entire over ceiling walls inside door glass and bottom of oven let it sit over night and in the morning everything wipes off with a wet sponge works great no elbow work required
I was just told easy off heavy duty cleaner will break down the coating of the inside of the oven, and you should never use the self cleaning afterwards, because the self-cleaning coating may have been damaged. I'll go with the baking soda and vinegar and a little elbow grease. Thanks Angela
Have a Question Angela! Great video BTW keep it up I really appreciate it! If I decide not to use the self clean method on my oven. Then at what temperature is it safe to place my oven on after thoroughly cleaning my oven to rid some of the fumes from the cleaning products? Ty 😉

BAM!
and this is why its wise to research something you don't know before performing a task. Thank you
You are right! 👍🏻
This is why I'm here! I Googled how the self clean oven feature works because I've never done it before. Now I will never ever use it. Scares me to death! I'm totally fine with good old fashioned elbow grease.
Didn’t know I had to be out of the house that long. Guess I’ll spend the night with my daughter. Thanks.
Very good, Angela! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
I just Moved into an apartment in the oven is filthy. I was going to do the self clean method but now I am absolutely not going to. I’m too afraid! It also has a steam cleaning function but maybe I’ll pass on that as well. Thanks for this video.
You’re welcome and I appreciate you leaving a comment. 👍
This was an extremely good video, thank you for taking the time to make.
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. 🙂
You’re welcome and thank you for watching the video and commenting. 😊
i was thinking about using self cleaning feature.. no thanks.
great tutorial though. nice and neat. thank you.
Thanks for watching. Just be safe when doing it and if you use the self-cleaning feature, stay close.
You are very kind to leave me such a nice comment, thank you! 🤗
OMG thank you so much for this brilliant explanation. I have used cleaning sprays, so I won't be ever using the self-cleaning feature.
You are so welcome, glad it was helpful!
Life saver! I immediatelly turned mine off, it was already smoking too much!
So glad it was helpful and I hope you were able to get rid of the smoke.
It seems to me the Fire Department or someone could have just turned off the oven from the circuit breaker instead of tearing down a wall.
The same though occurred to me as well.
So why not just shut the utility mains off at the meter head outside of the house rather than bashing a whole wall down?
Sure but a fire is not only fueled by the electric once it started. Seen it. My oven stands alone , at least 6 inches from other items even when baking something at 450. Doesn’t look bad-in fact gives a sense of security.
The fire fighters break the walls to make sure their is no fire in the walls and nothing burning in the walls
Thank you. All the tips are really helpful. And it was a very nice thing to hear at the end- "leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it." 🙂
Thank you for watching and for helping me, leave the world a cleaner place. That's the mission I'm on. 😍
Bless your heart lady 🙏🏾
Thank you much! Sending hugs and blessings your way.🙏🤗
That was very helpful and very clear thank you 😊
You're welcome, glad it was helpful!
I've never been more scared in my life.... I don't even want to look at self cleaning ovens now.
Lol...it's not as bad as it seems. Thanks for watching the video.
Lmao when I was 12 I used the self cleaning option out of curiosity and I was so shook. The oven started to produce mad black smoke and the inside of the oven looked red af from the glass. I had no idea that would happen.
Oh my, that must have been terrifying. Thanks for sharing with our community.
Great video. But you can turn off the breaker easier than busting down the outside wall
Good point! I didn’t know where it was located (it wasn’t my house). 👍
Thank you so much! Very helpful & informative.
I’m glad you found the video helpful! 😊
Wow thank you for this video !!!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching. :-)
Thanks for watching my video : )
I have one of the liners. Be sure to remove it before using the self-cleaning feature. My spill problem is where the oven door meets the oven floor. This area doesn’t clean with the self-cleaning feature. I’ll try your method. My mother always used ammonia in a glass container.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your input, I appreciate it!
Oh wow...good to know! Thanks for sharing!
An appliance seller and repair person has advised against using the self-cleaning oven feature because it inevitably ruins the heating element.
What are your thoughts about natural gas ovens? This is the style I own
Ron, Do you mean when it comes to ease of cleaning?
@@AskAngelaBrown I am tired this evening and didn't do the best job of explaining myself. I meant my natural gas oven has a self cleaning cycle. You were talking about electricity based ovens in this video. Do you have experience with the natural gas equivalent? It seems running it would be the best, wipe it down after it has cooled and then going forward the silicone mats you suggest makes sense to me.
looking for the baking powder paste recipe, can't find anything in show notes.
Baking soda + enough water to make a paste. Finger paint it on the areas that need to be cleaned. Let is set for 2 min. Scrub with a non-scratch scrub sponge. It's easy.
thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching. :-)
amazing video. top of the line.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching. :-)
How long do you wait before you wipe up the water from the steam clean process?
When you say steam clean do are we still talking about the oven? Steam evaporates within a few seconds in most cases.
@@AskAngelaBrown Yes i am talking about the oven. Is it ok to leave it soak after the steam process? Because otherwise the steam process was not effective.
Thank you, very helpful.
You're welcome, glad to hear it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Can you use the silicone sheets in an electric oven?
You should be able to use it on the oven rack.
@@AskAngelaBrown if both racks are being used can I put the silicone sheet under the coil in an electric oven? Thanks
The fire department has never heard of a breakbox? 🤦🏾
Yes, and that would have been the first go to for an electrical fire. The catch is the homeowner had wall to wall shelving in the garage with stuff on them and nobody could find the breaker box including me. Note to self: Don't ever block the breaker box just in case you might need it.
Awesome tips! You rock Angela!
Glad you think so...thanks so much!!
Thanks for the video. I suppose that heating element must for a fancy oven. I replaced mine for 35$.
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Did you buy it online or at a local supplier?
Online. It was there in 48 hours. All I had to do was flip the breaker, unplug it, unscrew the heating element from the back of the oven, slide it out, detach the electrical and reattach it to the replacement and screwed it back in. It Was about 10 minutes worth of work.
Phenomenal video! Thanks!
Glad you think so. Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
Oh no! I appreciate you sharing this story. 🤗
3:00 okay, thank you. I'll never clean my stove, ever.
Did it now. Not because l wanted to clean it, but because the heating is broken, l was freezing and 1000 degress are useful! Anyway it removed some stuff l guesd. The stench was unbearable so l had to open the windows !!!@@@@@##@#@
April Ezell that was stupid they just had to cut off the electricity of the house.
LOL. Love it.
You're welcome, glad it was helpful! And thank you for watching the video.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that😥 Using oven cleaner and self-cleaning feature is very dangerous and unsafe. Sorry you have to deal with someone's mishaps
Very good tips! As a maintenance technician and appliance repair technician. I’ve seen the scary results myself. Thank you for the much needed video. Actually may have saved some lives.
wow, never thought of pulling the stove out away from the cabinets before running the sel-clean cycle. great advice.
If it's not an oven that is built into the cabinets and is a stand alone - keeping it far enough from the cabinets to "breathe" may prevent a fire in your house too. :-)
Thanks so much for this amazing imfo.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to respond. :-)
Last week, I cleaned my oven by the baking soda/water/vinegar/elbow grease method, and I was so proud of how it came out (nearly pristine) that I posted a photo on Facebook. Yes, yes I do need a life, why do you ask?
And the next thing you know you’ll be making RUclips videos on housecleaning, lol!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to drop me a line. :-)
Nothing wrong with trying to find easier ways around things. We ALL do it. Stay smart momma. :)
Thanks for sharing : )
OMG!!! THANK YOU YOU JUST SAVED ME!!!!
SOS PADS AND ELBOW GREASE THATS IT!!!!
Thank you so much
You’re welcome and thanks for commenting. 👍
WATCH THIS VIDEO LIFE SAVING OMG
Thanks so much for your feedback and for watching the video. 🙂
So if the self cleaning oven blows the elements, wrecks the oven, and causes fire, what is the use or point of it?
So that the fire department comes or keeping stoves in business.
Self destruct
So they get an excuse to charge more for the stove and then you have to replace it soon.
My thoughts exactly !!
Just saying. Sounds too dangerous to use and if it eats up your heating element so why is it even a feature? Was getting started to do and backed down esp w this 105 degree California weather.
Is it ok to use baking soda prior to the self cleaning feature?
+Atlas _ if you are using the self cleaning feature it is not necessary to also use baking soda before.
You are smart
Thanks for watching and for reaching out.
So either of these methods can be used instead of the self cleaning method?
Yes and the self-cleaning method can still be used. BUT - big but here, PLEASE monitor the self-cleaning cycle. Stay in the home and be prepared in case something weird (like a fire) happens. Know where the breaker box is. Have a fire extinguisher nearby. Have 911 preprogrammed in your phone in case of emergency. Make sure you have the address of the home you're cleaning in case you have to call for help. Those types of things.
Thanks. I used my self cleaning cycle once. I won’t be using it anymore. My oven is built in and has cabinets next to it.
Mine too. I'm not going to use mine either. We're twins. :-) Thanks for watching. :-)
I used the self cleaning feature and it resulted in a crackled appearance to the exterior paint and it also warped the plastic display screen. I had no idea it got that hot!
Oh no! Did you call the oven manufacturer?
You are an awesome teacher!
Wow, thank you so much!
Why didnt the fire department just turn off the breaker at the load center? Or did they just want to demolish your garage in the process?
Yes they just want to demolish your garage. How fun was that!
Maybe FIRE? When you have a fire and a house filled with smoke, the fire department will put a hole somewhere to get rid of the smoke to see what they are dealing with. My friend a retired fire Captain told me this just yesterday, because I asked him, why they put a hole in roofs or walls, now I know.
I really appreciate your great advice. It saved my life. God bless you. You are the best
Thank you for your very kind comment, I appreciate it. 🤗
Wait my oven is like attached to the cabinets... I live in an apartment... should I not use it
You can use it, just make sure you do it correctly.
Thanks for sharing your tip. ❤️
I was thinking the same
And I would also try to do the same thing with the baking soda and vinegar to go for a nontoxic option. I’ll try it and share my results 👍🏻
I was just told easy off heavy duty cleaner will break down the coating of the inside of the oven, and you should never use the self cleaning afterwards, because the self-cleaning coating may have been damaged. I'll go with the baking soda and vinegar and a little elbow grease. Thanks Angela
How do you stop the self cleaning cycle before it's over
Hi. Check the instructions booklet that came with the appliance to see if they suggest a way to do that. Thanks for watching. ☺
Thanks! I'm going to buy some Easy Off!
Well can I just use the easy off funm free on myself cleaning oven because I'm NOT turning on the self cleaning cycle
Easy Off works - good choice. :-)
My Samsung oven have both the self cleaning and steam cleaning feature.
Thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching the video.🙂
Hmmmm. Maybe I'll do the baking soda and silicone mat method now.
The silicone method is one of the best long-term approaches to keeping the bottom of the oven clean and it prevents the need for heavy duty chemicals.
Thanks so much Angela great explanation, I was looking for information about this and I am happy to see your video..
Blessings..
Thanks for watching and let me know how your oven turns out. I'm eager to hear what you used> :-)
Have a Question Angela! Great video BTW keep it up I really appreciate it! If I decide not to use the self clean method on my oven. Then at what temperature is it safe to place my oven on after thoroughly cleaning my oven to rid some of the fumes from the cleaning products? Ty 😉
400 for about 20 minutes should burn off the rest of the residue. :-)
Awesome ty😊! Your the best Angela! Happy Holidays and have a happy & healthy New Year! 🙏🏼🙋🏻♂️😄
So if I used easy off spray and I turn oven on 400 for 20 minutes, it'll be ok to use.
Worried about fumes affecting the food I bake
Love the silicone sheet idea!
