I bought my Z9 in June '22 and in December '22 re-purchased a D850. I am a long time DSLR shooter and wanted Nikon's last great DSLR. IMO, there are reasons to own and shoot both despite the mass movement to the mirrorless format. One reason for my purchase of the D850 was that I have more than 20 F mount lenses and could not afford to do a 1 for 1 lens replacement.
Great video. Thank you. The D850 is really impressive, especially for being 5 years older than the Z9. For me, I'm all in on the Z mount glass. My F mount glass is mostly 40 to 50 years old.
If tomorrow Nikon discontinue the D850. I would advise folks to start getting into mirrorless due to Nikon support. This spring and summer I will be testing out the Z lens vs the F mount to see the quality differences. It will be interesting~
If Nikon discontinued the D850, I would say go out and get one. The Z9 is impressive and unless you buy that, you're still going to want something capable if you shoot sports or wildlife and the other Z cameras still lag a bit. IN fact, I think Nikon will probably pull the plug on the D850 next year (it was released about a year after the D500, and the D500 has been discontinued as of last year -- well Feb of 2022 so basically a year ago now). I imagine the D850 is not too far behind. I'ts on sale now for $2500 and it's still a good value especially if you have a lot of F-mount glass and aren't sold on the Z system just yet. You can still get a Z camera and adapt your F-mount lenses, but unless you're getting a Z9, you may still want to have a DSLR handy. Of course, the Z8 might change that, but we don't have specifics on that camera yet to know.... but my guess is that it will be a step up from the Z7 II / D850 but probably not as expensive or high-powered as the Z9 (probably will be in the $4000 price range, as it will be targeted more towards the Canon R5 / Sony A7R IV and V). The Z7 sits between the R6 and R5, and around the same level as an A7R III.
Just picked up a “used” D850… used has only 6k shutter actuations. Been supremely happy with it. Was a fantastic find. I have $40k worth of F mount lenses and don’t want to switch.
Used D850 is great since the price has dropped. Nikon still supports the unit. Some of the older unit that has fallen off Nikon support list has become a nightmare to NPS. Your membership ends up being rejected by Nikon due to gear not being supported anymore.
Being Nikon users for over a decade, then I bought Nikon D850 in 2019 with several prime lens. Later on purchased Sony A7III without selling D850 because of the hype and wanted to test mirroless camera. I switch between A7 III and D850 from time to time while I even bough Fujifilm X-A5 last year. The outputs from D850 is amazing and I don't think A7III can even match the results. Glad to see your video to see this comparison makes my decision stronger not to switch to Nikon Z system yet ...
Yes, I tried Fuji and sony and had them on the channel before. I noticed many odd issue on those brands. I tried to show people but of course the fans will attack sadly. I would recommend folks D850 over A7III and Fuji for sure.
Have both. Use the z9 for things in motion, like birding and sports. I use the D850 for everything else, like landscapes, portraiture and macro photography. at the Dxomark laboratory Nikon D850 wins in all Z9. The d850 camera has an iq sensor like a medium format one, no one pulls colors from a black background like in your test, everything is done in moderation and in normal light. D850 won.

If you are a manual mode user the Z9 has the important advantage of being able to see your exposure changes and histogram in the viewfinder (and an artificial horizon, to boot). It almost makes up for having to look at an EVF. I was waiting for battery life to improve before getting a mirrorless and haven't been disappointed with the Z9, though I would need a spare battery for somewhere like Africa. It is a bit of a pain to have to charge my Z9 with a USB while driving. I still have a D750, but suspect the Z8 will replace it.
Im excited for the Z8~! Yes, the battery life was very long on the Z9 and it practically lasted me the entire day when I went birding. The silent shooting is very odd but took time to get adjusted.
As long as you got great light, same exposure and setting, you should be good. Otherwise , you will benefit more with Z glass out door if you are shooting a lot out door. Cheers~!
For Nikon, sure (yes I am a Nikon shooter, but there are better options out there if you're willing to look at other brands, like the Sony A1 -- although the A9 is more in line with the Z9, but the A1 is close behind). But at the same time, there is talk that the A7 line (and possibly the A9 line) is coming to and end and we may see one more update, but that the new A1 and FX plat form is what we will see from Sony at least moving forward.
D850 is about to be discontinued so no more repair down the road. With NPS , once your system is discontinued, your no longer apart of the Nikon Professional Service until you repurchase a system that is still in production. 3rd party will over charge the repair from then on. Probably not worth the repair cost on a D850. Your looking at now but rather than later. Enjoy the fruits of tech of the future. Cheers~!
You will see the biggest difference in studio and in controlled light, on-location use scenarios. (Portraits, Fashion, Beauty, Editorials...) Nikon D810, Canon 5DIV and Nikon D850 are said to give the closest image quality to what you would expect from a studio work specialized Hasselblad and PhaseOne medium format cameras! These three cameras are the Hasselblads of the Full Frame world!
"are said to give the closest image quality" send me this quote . How old is the comment. D850 is over 5 years old so this may mean the Z9 will top all of that ~! Thanks for sharing mate! Excellent news for Z9 owners as you saw in the test, D850 failed in the shadow test.
@@theCameraVille It's not a quote from any one, specific person, it's just how generally people in my industry (fashion & beauty) refer to these three cameras. I don't know anything about Z9 first hand, I shoot Hasselblad X system since 2016, before that I've shot only with a Canon 1DX and I've only seen the Z9 RAW files online, so I can't speak from first hand experience but if you ask anyone in the fashion and beauty industry to tell you what the best cameras with full frame sensors are for studio, 90% of the time, you will get one of these two answers: Nikon D810/850 or Canon 5DmkIV. Very rarely will you hear any other cameras name being mentioned. Even my friend who has been loyal to Hasselblad for almost two decades now, has bought himself a D810 when it came out. Z9 is obviously a better camera but there has to be a damn good reason why everyone in the fashion and beauty industry still prefers to use a D850 or 5DIV when they reach for a Full Frame camera, over all the amazing cameras that we have nowadays.
Agreed, for other than sports a used 850 is what i recommend for serious photogs not shooting sports. i kept an 850 but shoot sports w 2 z9's. if you shoot a basketball or baseball or football game for 10 min w each camera you will hav stellar coverage w z9 vs hit n miss w the 850 even if uv been shooting sports commercially for a decade, i did sell my 2 D5's when i switched to Z9, they were my sports cams before. Hope that helps if a viewer needs to shoot sports commercially. n thanks for covering the z9 v d850 idea, just adding a sports shooter's observation. the 850 used w some used F glass is such a bargain for many people who might not hav considered it. cheers!
Excellent~! I had my brother giving up his D4 for the Z9. First week, he miss the shutter click. A month later , he loves silent shutter and everything else.
Yea , I noticed that. I like to give everyone a chance to give their own take on it. Some of these charts on these sites seem to be................. .... Words I cant say lol.
Power Consumption, Screw Drive Lens Compatibility if you have older lenses, Size and Weight. Are the reasons I went with the D850. I could get the Battery Grip as well. However, I have not had the need for this. With the Battery Grip the D850 would be closer in size to the Z9.
The D850 will soon be out of production by next year. You got about 2 -3 years after that for Nikon support. After that, repair will skyrocket as it did with my D810, D4, models that are no longer supported.
@@theCameraVille I had a D610 a few years ago with studio flashes and a sb910 flash. I prefer using the z30 I find the z30 more satisfying and the sb900 I got seems to work better with this camera than the 910 did with the d610.
I have sold my D850 (and my backup D800) for a Z9 this year and I switched mainly for the following reasons: - IBIS - faster AF with eye detect - no more risk of back/front focus because of the mirror - newer and better glass On top of those things, while the battery for the D850 was a beast (specially if you had 2 with a battery grip), the battery of the Z9 lasts easily twice as much as 2 D850 batteries (with similar playback settings I got almost 3000 photos with the Z9 and I don't remember ever getting more than 1200 with a full charge of 2 batteries on the D850). Other improvements I've noticed is better noise at higher ISO and maybe a slightly higher dynamic range.
I can relate to all of that when shooting the Z9. So we are on the same page. I will do side by side lens review for the Z and F mount lens this Spring and Summer. Stay tune for that.
Your battery experience on the D850 surprises me. I regularly shoot about 1200 photos with a D850 in one session at a local community running event, and the battery indicator shows that I have about 3/4 of the (single) battery charge left.
I will wait for the Z8 to replace my D850 basically getting all the buttons and most of the features of the Z9 (most likely a downgrade in FPS and video features) in a smaller body. Here's to hoping it will get the game changer that the D800 and D850 were.
Yes, I am waiting on that z8. Hopefully its a compact size like my z6. My Nikon contacts are keeping their lips sealed but said its 2023 release for sure. February CP+ will be interesting. Other rumors I read that isnt popular is the Z8 could be a R3 competitor. A 24 mp version of the Z9. Interesting rumor but I think it will be a 60 mp system.
To adapt a phrase from the political world, "It's the VIDEO, stupid!" There is not enough difference in technical IQ between the D850 and Z9 for me to choose one over the other. However, once I figured out the incredibly flexible, intelligent, and challenging, AF system, I CAN get shots I'd never be able to get with the D850...unless I just got lucky. The EVF is amazing and I never bother to run it in 120Hz refresh mode...no need, to. One other benefit that I didn't fully appreciate until I tried using it a few times is DX mode...with an EVF, you can shoot in crop mode, but have the EVF fill the viewfinder with the cropped area, not be stuck with just a graticule showing the DX area in the OVF. That was one of the reasons I always preferred shooting with a D500 over the D850 in crop mode. I like seeing my composition exactly. I have zero interest in a mirrorless version of the D500...what's the point other than saving a few hundred dollars? Owning both a D850 and D500 (along with a sizeable selection of Nikkor lenses, primes and zooms) since each were released, both served me well and I was in no rush to switch to mirrorless. Zero interest in changing to another mfr's system. However, I was in the market for a 4K, lower-end pro camcorder by Sony or JVC. When I saw the video spec's of the Z9, I ordered one 2 days after the release and received it in mid-April. About 3 weeks later, I sold both my D850 and D500 and over the next couple months, sold a good bit of my F glass, though I do still have a 500pf, 300 f2.8 VRII, 70-200 f2.8E FL, 14-24 f2.8 and a couple others that are useful with the FTZ. Z lenses I've purchased are the 14-30, 24-120, 100-400, 28 f2.8 and 40 f2. I'm good for now, but if that 85 f1.2 isn't astronomically priced, that may be next. I also see a 600 f4 TC in my future once those become readily available. Absolutely no regrets in making the switch and the video capability of this camera is over the top in every mode. Trying to shoot video of anything that moved with the D850 or D500 was an exercise in frustration. Now I can switch from stills to video, or vice versa, in the blink of an eye if an opportunity presents itself. What I miss is having two almost identical bodies...the D850 with a 24-120 or 70-200 on it and the D500 with 500pf or 200-500 on it when out walking about or traveling in a vehicle. Always at the ready. No good option to do that right now that I'm willing to pull the trigger on...I'm not about to buy a FF Z body until new ones appear with the Expeed 7 processor. That said, the sale pricing on the Z50 is very attractive and could be a stop gap until new models appear...and would make a great travel camera kit.
As the owner of both, i found the the D850 has better DR than the Z9, that's the Sacrifice you have to take for a stack sensor, you gain on read out speed but give up DR.
I have both cameras. Depends on your needs. For buildings, cars and anything you have time to dial in your camera for the D850 is still an amazing camera even today. Many things I do I need speed. I need to setup fast and switch modes fast. The Z9 does just that for me. Images are much cleaner with a Z9 if use flash or high iso shooting.
how you compare prices? if d850 is 25% poor in quality than its 50% cheaper than z9, and i think z9 is too much expensive with the features nikon offer.
It is fitting that the D850 came at the tail end of SLR photography--and to a more limited circle, the D6. They are the swan songs to an era. May the Z cameras carry on the tradition.
@@theCameraVille If they made a D850s with IBIS I'm in but that is never going to happen .so perhaps for me an D850 the Z9 is still to pricy even with getting now even 1000 less of the price refurb etcetera
Actually, there is more lens choices on the mirrorless than Dslr. Im using sony lens, canon lenses, f mount lenses and even old manual lens with af on mirrorless. I made videos on all this as well. Dslr is limiting at the moment.
the problem with moving to mirrorless is if youve committed to dslr and lenses , youre gonna have to shell out a considerable amount of money with the changeover
The issue with dslr, is that they are slowly being discontinue and wont no longer have support if anything breaks. There is a production life spam and majority of dslr are heading to the end. My D800, no more support. My D4, no more support, my first dslr D70s no support. D500 discontinued. If I had to do it again, I would had sold it all 2 years ago when everything was hard to get. So you may see it as an expensive switch now, but once you see your model on the discontinue list, that is good game.
If your not a pro shooting super fast paced sports or wildlife or needing/wanting the video features of the Z9, the D850 is the way to go. But how much longer will Nikon support the D850? I think at least another 7-10 years. It still sells pretty good, unless they come out with a mirrorless equivalent. I thought Nikon fixed the EVF with problems with the Z9? I know I could use a EVF in bright sunlight conditions. Also, once you add the V-Grip to the D850, you still need a battery or 2 at around $230US & the charger for it which only come as a dual charger. There is an after market charger that could save you a few dollars. All said, around $700-800 US to get the 9fps. For me a hobbyist photographer vested in Fmount glass, moving up to the D850 from the D810 would make more dollar sense. I guess I'll hold out & see if Nikon releases something between the Z7 &Z9. A spot on AF, no blackout high res EVF with 10-12 fps, 50 shot buffer & a decent rear monitor, $3800.00 would do it for me. If I had more disposable income, I would have jumped brands already. As long as Nikon has been in the camera bizz, they should of had better first/second generation mirrorless. NO EXCUSES!
Think about all the good Nikon advocates who still own and use the D700 and the D3 systems. These bodies are more than 15 years old, long out of production, and haven't been "supported" for more than a decade. If the camera is sound and you are able to make good images with your kit of lenses, why pay so much to get the latest hardware?
@@larryjohnson1451 I get it plus those are stand outs in Nikon history. With that said, some sell to trade up while they can get the most value of there equipment as it devalues over time. I doubt anyone thinks you can't get a great image with a camera that always took great images if the person behind the camera does their part. Either way you go has its benefits. Wait another 6 months or a year something with better AF or more features that will make taking photographs easier or...
@@theCameraVille Yeah the seamount lenses look fantastic. But the problem is the body. There’s not many people that can realistically afford to spend that kind of money on a camera I certainly can’t at this stage in my life afford that kind of money but I produce very good images with the D8 50
@@nevvanclarke9225 Generally its all about the element of glass and sensor at the end of the day. Once nikon decides to discontinue the unit like the D500, I will see you come through :D.
Video specs make up for it but for photo no way there's even a $500 difference, maybe if Nikon placed a High-Res/Pixel Shift mode but they simply don't want to
Isn’t the Z9 vs D6 be a more appropriate comparison? You’re comparing cameras for different purposes. The D850 vs 7II you did is definitely a more appropriate comparison. Helpful videos. Thanks.
Doesnt matter since this isnt a lens review. Also if the settings are the same on each body, the result wouldnt be different even if it was F5.6. Make sure you understand. Thanks!
What I've learned in my experience is that getting a new camera is not about image quality (not always) but about making the process of getting a image easier and more efficient. Lenses improve image quality. So if you find yourself missing a lot of shots due to some images being out of focus, or iso performance is too limited, or you're spending too much time with changing settings in fast paced shooting environments... Upgrade cameras If your images need to be sharper, more crisp, and cleaner upgrade lenses. Or if you just can't get the shot because you don't have the right lense... Then obviously... Get a new lense
You are correct, lens is something I will start reviewing as the bodies at this point is more or less the same when exposure is correct. I will get on it Aaron~!
"If you're on a budget, get the D850" Haha. The D850 isn't a low budget camera. If the D850 is in your budget, so is the Z9. Not that big of a leap. I own both.
Friend, could you measure the brightness of the screens of these cameras with the device that you used to measure the brightness of on-camera monitors?
A downside with DSLRs is that you need to calibrate all your lenses, otherwise you won't have critical focus. On the other hand, PDAF on DSLRs is still a bit more capable at focusing on small details like individual tree branches etc.
The lens calibration is something. Also if a user forgets to update a firmware on the mirrorless, can have issue . Calibration on dslr was awful memories lol.
Unfortunately I haven't been so lucky. I've had camera - lens pairings where focus was way off & AF micro adjustments were unavoidable for me to be able to nail focus on the eye at f/1.4 etc.
@@yourtallness Yea, its very random. I do remember the first ever tamron 150-600 . This was before dockstation was avilable. I kept calibrating that lens until I read the recall after 😂
@@EdAb yup I do back button focusing. Its not the technique as this calibration has been put in by Nikon. Think about it, if there was never a lens issue, why would they put a calibration menu? Yup. Happy holiday mr no issue with 20k+ nikon lens with no issue😂😂
If the exposure is all the same, image should be more or less the same. Unless you are a ghost hunter, shooting in the dark all night then not the same :D.
All mirrorless cameras' picture quality on high iso heavily depends on a shutter mode. Electronic shutter yields worst results in terms of grain and banding, whereas, mechanical -the best. Feels like Z9 was run on electronic shutter against D500 on mechanical?
Z9 cannot even come close to D850 for speed photography. The latter captures instant shot due to real time view which is available at the speed of light. No mirrorless camera on earth is capable to present the view in EVF at that speed. Case closed.
“Be nice in the comment section”… who IS this guy and has he never been on YT before?! 😂 Kidding of course. Great video. Shows both the great performance of the D850 as well as the progress Nikon has made.
Very nice comparison video, :D for twice of te price is kinda obvious to expect the Z9 be better than the D850, which still is impressive for the D850 to be compared with a more advanced and way more expensive modern machine.
Thanks for stopping by mate~! Yea, D850 is still capable. When having the same exposure, should be more or less the same unless you are shooting in pure darkness :D
Z9 renders sharper from F Lenses . I have both and it just hits the mark more often - there are lots of other advantages I have realised as I use the z9, d850 and d5
Correct. I tried my ETZ adapter to get my manual lens working with AF, the adapter was too big to install on the Z9. ruclips.net/video/IoTqcIjnED8/видео.html This does mean that only other Nikon Z mirrorless, except Z9 can use Manual lens with AF. Even the ones without AF on manual can work on mirrorless not DSLR.
If Nikon had IBIS it can work together with a stabilized lens to deliver even better results, allowing photographers to shoot at slower shutter speeds and videographers to capture smoother handheld video. Also many manual lens shooter could had benefited from it as well. In another words, there was no innovation in that department on Nikon behalf. Sadly without innovation such as this, it led user such as myself to pick up a Pentax K1 and try out a DSLR with IBIS. It was a game changer for sure.
@@theCameraVille For video yes. But the D850 wasn’t really aiming for it. It was a photography first. And the VR lenses were already really good. Now on the Z series it’s amazing. Pentax is very lackluster.

d850 has nothing better than z9 except that it is twice as cheap. z9 is perhaps in some cases slightly or almost imperceptibly better, except that it takes 3 times more photos per second if that difference is significant for someone. Is 7 photos per second from the d850 enough, decide for yourself?
You are wrong the d850 is better, please dont say something when you are dont know facts ....go back to kitchen and make burger but talk not about things you dont know please
Yes, new tech will always have that price tag. When it comes to single af shots, most shooters should be okay with the DSLR. I just worry when Nikon start discontinuing D850, it will be hard for me to recommend due to Nikon support.
There is no difference except the z9 is heavy expensive bulky and screen smaller Rez and screen is too small on z9 go the d850 and save 5 grand . 99% of people do not need 20 fps or 40fps 9-10-11 is plenty . D850 will be relevant for decades . If you want video get the iPhone 14 pro max. Pros who make money on video don't use Nikon for video they use Sony cameras .

D850 also has a horizon that you can turn on and off with the function buttons
After my d810 ill still go for d850
Same results! another reason i still buying the d850
As long as you got great light, same exposure and setting, you should be good. Otherwise , you will benefit more with Z glass out door if you are shooting a lot out door. Cheers~!
D850 is the best DSLR ever made.
Z9 is the best mirrorless ever made.

Thanks for the vid!
You betcha~!!
@@HR-wd6cw Please tell me how exactly the A1 is better except maybe better autofocus in just certain situations?
My 70 year old eyes don't see any difference in the imagery. The Z9 isn't worht the cost compared to the D850.
Cheers~!
Thank you for the ISO comparison. This review is very helpful.
Cool comparison. Most RUclipsrs don't have your courage and they only read from the charts :)
@@theCameraVille That is and will be unfortunate.
Personally I’m down the shallow end of the Nikon Gene Pool using a Z30 and really enjoying it. 😉🖖🏼
NICE~!
@@theCameraVille I had a D610 a few years ago with studio flashes and a sb910 flash. I prefer using the z30 I find the z30 more satisfying and the sb900 I got seems to work better with this camera than the 910 did with the d610.
Me quedo con la D850. De todas todas
I have sold my D850 (and my backup D800) for a Z9 this year and I switched mainly for the following reasons:
- IBIS
- faster AF with eye detect
- no more risk of back/front focus because of the mirror
- newer and better glass
On top of those things, while the battery for the D850 was a beast (specially if you had 2 with a battery grip), the battery of the Z9 lasts easily twice as much as 2 D850 batteries (with similar playback settings I got almost 3000 photos with the Z9 and I don't remember ever getting more than 1200 with a full charge of 2 batteries on the D850).
The Z9 is my dream wildlife and BIF camera, however, the D850 would be a great landscape camera.
Yea, just as long you get the exposure down , you should be more or less good to go.
You have a passion that I cant match. You are the winner.
As the owner of both, i found the the D850 has better DR than the Z9, that's the Sacrifice you have to take for a stack sensor, you gain on read out speed but give up DR.
Yup, I tested several dark scenes and always the Z9 came up pretty well.
Yup but if you can only use one then… which?
@@theCameraVille Depends on ones budget. In my case it's the Z9 I use all the time.
@@animestarlord9021 Just the answer i was looking for :)
After beeing underexposed and bringing it up the sky has more dynamic range to me on the D850, or am i wrong?

how you compare prices? if d850 is 25% poor in quality than its 50% cheaper than z9, and i think z9 is too much expensive with the features nikon offer.
Z9 comes with a ton of autofocus feature to video features . Image is part of the price tag and so is user experience.
It is fitting that the D850 came at the tail end of SLR photography--and to a more limited circle, the D6. They are the swan songs to an era. May the Z cameras carry on the tradition.
Yup, I wonder if they would ever do a D850s. Would be quite interesting to see what they do with the D850.
@@theCameraVille If they made a D850s with IBIS I'm in but that is never going to happen .so perhaps for me an D850 the Z9 is still to pricy even with getting now even 1000 less of the price refurb etcetera
In considering the price difference, the native lenses for the Z9 gets prohibitive. I’ll stick with the D850. More lens choices.
Actually, there is more lens choices on the mirrorless than Dslr. Im using sony lens, canon lenses, f mount lenses and even old manual lens with af on mirrorless. I made videos on all this as well. Dslr is limiting at the moment.
@@theCameraVilledepends on your needs, I guess. My DSLR fits all my needs.
I have both camreas ....if you use z lens with z9, it kills d850 but d850 dynamic range is a little bit better.

Hybrid viewfinder with both OVF and EvF overlay~?
What's your take on Z7ii then?
Cant say because Im working on the video. 😂😂 Many testing going on as we speak. Feel free to look in my library.
the problem with moving to mirrorless is if youve committed to dslr and lenses , youre gonna have to shell out a considerable amount of money with the changeover
I will get a D850 and a Z8
Okay, D850 for you, Z8 for me. Thanks ~!

As always, an excellent test and comparison, possibly to avoid larger apertures than f11 due to diffraction!
Doesnt matter since this isnt a lens review. Also if the settings are the same on each body, the result wouldnt be different even if it was F5.6. Make sure you understand. Thanks!
In second outside recovery test from underexposed frame sky appears to me better on d850 than z9
When we move over to the Z6II and Z7II vs Z9, I will be doing more Over expose to under expose.
Upgrade cameras
If your images need to be sharper, more crisp, and cleaner upgrade lenses.
I own both.
I saw some good pricing on the used market recently on the D850. Very wide margin in pricing.
How much better is a d850 than a gh5, also a a7iv

I would buy D850 because of price. I can get body and some good lens.
Yea , as long as it is within your budget, you are good.

What is going on? Nikon cheap out on the screen for Z9. I'm sorry to tell you this. They saved a few bucks probably lol.
Друг ты не понял, я о измерении яркости экранов. Очевидно что новый экран имеет меньную плотность пикелей но большую яркость
@@EdAb depends which model 😂I did 1 time on a 100-400 and that was a lot of drama.

Z9 renders sharper from F Lenses . I have both and it just hits the mark more often - there are lots of other advantages I have realised as I use the z9, d850 and d5
I did notice the tracking on the Z9 remains tack sharp while the D850 can be tricky if subject is moving.
But after recovering the shadows, the sky of the z9 picture turned grey where the d850 sky stayed blue..
Fine... but when we use Nikon Zs lens next time , you wont be happy with the results..
@theCameraVille how do you mean? This time was F mount on the Z9? So f mount doesn't work well on Z?
The D850 wins hand down for one simple reason. No video viewfinder. The video viewfinder is a non starter, period end of discussion.
What on earth, you just started a discussion and ended your own discussion, damn you are talking to yourself LOL..
No autofocus with older AF and AF‑D lenses on Z9 in case you own older glass.
Correct. I tried my ETZ adapter to get my manual lens working with AF, the adapter was too big to install on the Z9.

This does mean that only other Nikon Z mirrorless, except Z9 can use Manual lens with AF. Even the ones without AF on manual can work on mirrorless not DSLR.
Not weird at all that they didn't put ibis in. Many lenses had VR so no need.
It was a game changer for sure.

d850 has nothing better than z9 except that it is twice as cheap. z9 is perhaps in some cases slightly or almost imperceptibly better, except that it takes 3 times more photos per second if that difference is significant for someone. Is 7 photos per second from the d850 enough, decide for yourself?

To fix it , I pray, and try another day with full battery, pins on the lens whipped clean and I slowly tightly screwed it back on. Then I Turned the camera on and it worked but it could had been worse. Let me know if you tried this.
One camera is gonna cost you $2000... the other... $6000... Helloooooooooooooo! ;)
Yup. Get what you need. I think I said something like that in the video.
