My dad had a P5B Coupe back in the late seventies. That had Irvin belts front and rear and definitely wasn't a government car as he was the second owner and bought it from a friend. It was a fabulous car and I wish we could have kept it.

Great episode. I used to do car valeting late 80s/ early 90s and I had two regular customers, one with a yellow 2CV and another one with the green/white Dolly as per this vid, great memories. Quite an easy car to clean, the shape of the wings etc, sad I know but seeing this video brought it all back, great stuff.

Another great barn find. I’ve a feeling that the Dolly came from Border Motors in Saltney. The prefix DM indicates that’s where it was registered. I hope the Rover can be saved and the Dolly. I’d guess the beetle will be used as a donor car.

I bought a P5b saloon in 1995 when I was 20. It crippled me in paying for 4 star at 59.9ppl, was so envious of unleaded users paying 49.9ppl

Back in the early 70s, as a student, I had a weekend job selling cars. A River like this one came in and it looked fabulous in two-tone grey with a painted coach line and beautiful wheels. I could choose anything on the lot to take home, and this particular Saturday night I headed out in the Rover. Looking at the logbook the real beauty of the car revealed itself - it’s previous owner was Sir Matt Busby! As a mad United fan I should have done anything and everything to try to buy it. The following week it was sold and I was forced to take home the Lancia Zagato Sport.
Your brother needs to buy the Rover. As an American, I'd be curious to see it back up and running
The P5B interior is in good condition. It might just be the saviour of this classic vehicle. My late uncle kept one in his garage in West Cumbria until shortly before his death three years ago. 2CV well worth saving, not sure that the beetle is.

I remember as a young mechanic, driving round in a company P5b, dark green and Rostyle wheels, in 1969. Listening to the V8 sound and imagining that I was in the film Bullitt.

👋 Hello. I'm viewing from New Zealand. Great barn finds, and all worth restoring. It's sad looking at these cars as they are, they all have seen better days. The Volkwwagon beetle would be a late 1970s model judging by the large rear lights on it. The Citroen CV2 Dolly should come up good with a wash.
Jonny is an amazing petrol head inspired journalist, then you have Greg, Jonny's brother who is quite obviously a brilliant mechanic, if we didn't know they were brothers you definitely guess so. More more more please

I would love to have that 2CV. I remember when I lived in Germany it seemed that it was every kids first car. Here in America it is a rare sight.
That little bug is charming with all the patina.
A G in the number plate shows the former Government ownership. It must have been used by the Office for Suspicious Findings with 555 being its unique call sign. Later, when budgets were inevitably cut, they were replaced with 2CVs. Amazing these two cars were found so near to each other.

I remember my father doing something similar with a I believe a Silver Fox coloured MkII Ford Cortina which was badly peeling. He spent at least a day hand painting it with a household light blue gloss I took some stick because of that in our street. Happy memories still miss him he was a character😁

So interesting the beetle my first car growing up in Jamaica the rover my dad owned one. So much of the terminologies the gentleman use. We also use in Jamaica that bird garage that beetle is parked in is much like under the house of my grandparents house where we park cars and store stuff even the Masonary used to build that house is very similar

Great video with your brother, amazing the 2 CV fired up! Love the Rover P5B, remember helping my neighbour with his 3 litre, when I was a lad, to replace the big ends, the beginning of my spannering! Also had a 1966 1300 Beetle which I got when I was at college, had 98k on the clock, and I took it up to 165k and sold it for more than I paid for it a few years later 😎 Happy days when cars were fixable by the common man 👍😂

Brilliant. One of my old mates had a 2cv, which I drove occasionally, (strictly for amusement only) when he was off working on the big oil tankers. What I do remember,( this was in the late 1970’s”) was the yo yo suspension and the passenger side front seat was not attached but supported by a brick, a not very bright bit of diy.
And when I worked in Paris a few years earlier my agent owned a Rover P6 which was rather unusual in Paris. I also knew this guy who was studying, (again in Paris), to be a lawyer he owned one of the pre War Citroen’s with front wheel drive & unitary body shell, (if I remember that correctly), it must have been an early one as it had running boards. And another mate of mine there owned a Renault 16, (or similar), in which I first experienced the Parisian mode of parking, if there isn’t enough space, make some. Rather mental, could not imagine that being the norm in Little Britland.
I wish I had contacted you about my Mini Cooper rsp when we dug it out of the bush it had been in for 17 years was a properly cool find, I had been going round the village on an old version of google street view and saw this mini on the driveway, then a while later I was walking passed and looked over the wall because I was curious and saw the mini in the end the lady let me have it in exchange for tidying up the driveway, the car was in a right state and the rustyest mini I’ve seen, but it has 35k miles, one owner for 30 of the 33 years of its life and is one of the first 40 coopers to roll off the production line since they stopped the cooper in the 70s there was also only 1050 uk market rsp coopers made
