Don't forget that you can simply flip over the cut up top plate use it like new again. Of course you'll have to counter sink the screws on that side to but do use both sides before ditching the top board.
You have the best "teacher's" voice, thanx Leah
I don't know why I didn't check with you first. You always make things simple. Thank you.
I don’t know how I found this channel but I’m so glad I did!!
Leah, you are mentor! I love how simple you describe projects. It really gives me the confidence and enthusiasm to take on projects on my own.🤗 Thank you soooo much!!
I found my grandads saw horses in his shed and they were just like this. They were absolutely solid. And very well used. I made some just like it.
Nice! 👍
You have the magic power to A.) make things panic free, and B.)make it all understandable. Your videos are always straight to the point, and helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for explaining why the centre piece of the I-beam is recessed. I saw the same design in other videos and it was never mentioned why. I thought it seemed like a needless weak point, so I probably would have just made it the full width, and regretted it later when trying to clamp something. I'll definitely be adding this feature now.
I saw a similar (yet way more complex to build) set of I-beam saw horses tested to nearly 16,000 lbs. This simpler set is more than strong enough for anything most people would ever need.
as a now semiretired carpenter ,i have seen this type of horse on the jobsite at times ,in my opinion the best, easiest horse to make. Even after being in the trades for 40+ years I have learned things from you . Great channel Leah , keep up the great work
I have built two sets of these horses and am building a third set for a friend tomorrow. They rock! The build is simple and they’re strong and stable. For my friend’s set I’m going to make the length 34”or 36” because I have access to a big pile of scrap 2x4s. I’m also going to brace them across the legs and lengthwise, because they’re going to be used to support some big beams and heavy lumber. This will take away the stacking feature as shown on Leah’s build, but the horses will be really strong - and heavy and not fun to move around. Leah’s build is fine for general use and more versatile. I use mine all the time, so thanks, Leah!
Oh my gosh -- someone who uses nails like me instead of barrels and buckets full of expensive screws! Good going, Leah!
Nails are great and underrated. Screws are great and overused, probably because everyone has a cordless drill now and people have forgotten how to hammer a nail in.
In truth they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Check out her excellent video called: Nails vs Screws. Which one should I use? (or something like that) she explains it brilliantly and you will see why she used nails for the legs and screws for the top.
I really like her style. All the best.
Love the design!. No brackets. Built 10 of them for outside work. Thanks!
Fantastic! 🙂👍
Thank goodness for a simple build! Don’t need a ton of power tools, no bevel cuts and nothing complicated! You are star! Cheers from England xxx
oh my gosh! I can’t wait to get started. Totally bingeing all your videos
OMG! All the other videos I watched were so much more complicated. I love how simple your vid is.
I was looking for a easy, simple but sturdy sawhorses to build. Came across this video, the next day I built it in no time. Absolutely solid. Thank you!! Simple, efficient and budget friendly
Once again you show us the how and why of good carpentry, and now you give us a life time tool for the shop that will figure into nearly everything we do. Thanks so much!
you're very welcome! 👍
I’m still waiting to see a TV show deal!
You are simply one of the best teacher's/instructors around...you rock!
I'll be back, am gonna get my 2x4's, just what i need right now... Thanks for showing me this....
🙂
Built a pair earlier today... Leah's the best!
This really is a simple and cost-effective design. I've been thinking about building sawhorses the past few weeks. Thank you.
So encouraged to find your detailed demonstration to build a saw horse with "simple tools" and "simple cuts" I also appreciated reading additional comments on tips to make the saw horse stronger too! My hope is to build saw horses to place under a new to me truck camper, I have been feeling intimidated with the shear size & weight of this camper, but again your explanation has calmed my anxiousness. Thank You!
Oh my gosh Leah, not only is this yet another fantastic tutorial but, now I have an outstanding plan and tool to teach my boys!!! Thank you so very much. Your style reminds me every single time of my Grandfather 's way of teaching or rather his 'attempts' to teach me when I was just a kid. Not trying to date it here, just expressing how much I so appreciate and learn from you. Keep teaching and I and in turn my sons can and will keep learning. BTW I have told them all about you and your channel here. Just today my oldest was telling me about his current project and he says, "it was so easy and came together so quickly, I finished it way to soon lol." I asked him how that happened, he just grinned and said, "Leah taught me." 😀
I'm a union carpenter by trade, and I'm STILL learning!!! I especially am learning from Leah!!!! God bless you!!!
I have been watching a lot of your videos today. I love your calm and descriptive approach. You remind me of my 8th grade shop teacher, back in the 80's. One day back then, our band saw caught on fire. The whole class was freaking out. He said calm down boys, walked over and grabbed the fire extinguisher, walked over and calmly put out the fire. I could totally picture you doing the same!
Great Build, they are the ones I make all the time. One thing to remember is that they are medium duty horses, to make them heavier duty, put a cross piece on the legs under the I beam, and a stringer near the bottom of the legs. They won't stack anymore, but they are now strong enough to hold up just about anything.
nice tip, Jim, thanks!
Actually, they still could be stackable if you put the stringer near the bottom of the legs on the outside of the legs of one horse and on the inside of the legs of the other. The one with the stringer on the outside would always have to be stacked on the top. I picked this idea up from another you tube video
I’m building a pair like this tomorrow for a friend. They will be used to hold heavy beams and lumber for a project we’re doing and the extra bracing will ensure stability. For general use in my shop and barn I use the ones without braces and they’re more than adequate. Great design!
I watched this two years ago but didn’t need any. Now I need two and I knew exactly where to find the instructions. Love your channel. BTW, when one visits Thomas Jefferson’s house, they tell you he didn’t own a dining room table. Just a bunch of saw horses, planks and tablecloths and you can seat a bunch of people.
Yaaay I just bought Leah a cup of coffee. Most schools have students in huge debt getting that education. Whereas the School of See Jane drill you leave with real skill and can still have a few dollars in your pocket after tuition which tuition is not even a requirement. All it takes is to watch and learn from the master.
This concept will work for my solar panel stand! Thank you!
The I-beam is the strong structural component of high-rise buildings and here you are explaining how to make the top plank a sacrificial/replaceable component - awesome!
Just when I was going to use the old PVC extenders on folding table legs I see your video. I think I'll make the top pieces & adjust the leg height for better leverage when working on a project, I.e. sanding, painting etc. Thanks so much from a 'senior' lady who does most DIY projects much to the amazement of my adult grandchildren. You are an inspiration.
Merry, it is so nice to hear from you! It makes my day to think about you taking care of your own DIY projects and going strong!! Thank you so much for writing to me. Regards, Leah
Leah, that is such a simple design! I love it much more than my make shift ones. I'm going to scrap what I have and make these I-Beam horsies! Thanks!
you're very welcome!
Hi Leah,
I just searched for this in order to shared it with my son and close friend. I think of you every time I
use these which is often. If I sent you a quarter every time I needed them, you could retire!😊
Electronic hugs!
Love your calm teaching style. I've wanted to make sawhorse's forever to use with an old fashion quilt frame. Plus they would come in handle for everything else. Thank you
Awesome video! I built 3 sawhorses that weren't like this. Then, I disassembled them and built 3 sawhorses like this. I'm very happy with these I-beam horses. They are quite heavy, stackable, and stable.
nice! 👍🙂
Leah, I don't know what I'd do without you! What is the length of Nails or/ Screws to use?
Thank you for posting Leah, they are a very functional, strong and simple design. Keep up the great work.
I have a pair of these i built several years ago. My dad would use wood glue to lube screws or nails. Trick works. Unless you want to remove it. Thanks for the vid as always
God, I love this channel! Honestly, I would be hopelessly lost without you Leah!
🙂
Leahs attitude is incredible...such a bright lite!
I started out using nails on the legs but quickly switched to screws. For me it was much easier. I was building on the garage floor and pulled a leg muscle while hammering. The screws proved to work well.
I’ve used these saw horses
countless times.
Dear Ms. Jane Thank you for your careful instructions.
Such a simple design, fast to make and a great idea 💡 thanks leah
John Ernest 😊
I'm going to build these soon and when I do I'll share the results! Thanks for making such great videos Leah!
These are incredibly helpful when working alone! 👍👍
yes, most definitely!
See Jane Hammer !! thanks oh yeah, consider blunting nails to cut rather than split like the drill holes.
My kind of project!! Quick and easy!! Plan on making a pair by the weekend! Thank you and keep up the great work.
I made these today and they were quick, easy and strong. Thanks!
Love you Leah! Sooooo much knowledge in your brain! Keep up the great work.
🙂
Thank you so much for video so awesome never knew it was that simple no more chairs
Very well thought out set of sawhorses Leah!👍🏻 A added bonus that anyone can build them!! 😎
thank you, Paul!
Thank you for this. You rock!
Me and my partner just got a house, and some buddies have offered for me to use their power tools to get projects like this done. Also I’ve searched around a bit and keep finding old dudes with their huge workspaces and power tools with “easy” or “beginner” or “anyone can build” in the titles. Well they’re almost always excluding those of us who are true beginners with no power tools OR experience. I’m going to our reused home goods store today and feel so empowered to do this project.
Liked subscribed and sharing! I’ll grab you a cup of coffee on the way out.
Thanks Leah! Will be building me 2 tomorrow!
As always bravo Leah bravo!!
This is one of the simplest design I have seen. Thanks for sharing. One question though, is there a particular reason for using nails instead of screws when attaching the legs? Also, should there be a cross member between legs for streangth?
Must build! I can use these in my art studio as well. Thanks Leah!
Kerry Cutler 🙂
Love to spend a year learning from this lady
Just beautiful
I love your skills, but mostly your demeanor! Great videos and presence
Thanks Leah!!!! Hope you had a great Labor Day!!!!
demofactory I did. Thank You!
So nice listening to you and watching your videos.
We just built these. Easy to do and incredibly strong. We used screws instead of nails.
I find that it is amazing all that we can do with 2 x 4s . In the video, Leah used nails, but I used screws to attach the legs to the I beam . Both ways are good . Remember, if you aren't building, you aren't doing anything ! Cheers ! !
For being simple/basic sawhorses, those appear to be really well thought out. Thanks for another very helpful video.
you're welcome, Linda! 🙂
Another outstanding video Leah, so simple yet so useful and needed and in a pinch with a piece of plywood a handy table to assemble a project.
Clint Price always nice to see you Clint
Hope to make them this weekend!
You’re one of my “SHeroes”! You’ve been my mentor for a couple years now!
Hello Leah! Thank you for this great video , I just seen this video before and put it in the back of my mind for when the time came to build a pair. And today I built my first pair and what a great style of saw horse!😀
I have always wanted to learn this!
I think yours is the best video on this that's out there, as the other ones take at least two or three times longer to explain!
But as a 45 yr+ Carpenter- Contractor, I wonder why you nailed it instead of using screws? I haven't used nails except as temporary points for securing less important work in 35 years.
There's a tremendous range of fastening devices available to us, and even the simplest is five times more secure then a nail. Galvanised Ardox spiral nails are the only ones I'll use.
Thank you Leah
Thanks ! You make it look simple.
Thanks Leah! I think I'm going to build a couple of these on my days off! Can't wait to see your next video!
🙂
Thank you.
Wow, Leah this is a great video. What a totally awesome way to make a sawhorse, especially if you just want to make some up quickly. Thank you
you're very welcome, Philip!
You are Absolutely Awesome. I love your channel ma’am!
Thank you very much!
Excellent video thank you for your work! I need to build saw horses and I'm not skilled in this area.
OH dear Leah! You are a genius and your sense of humour is contagious! From Canada eh! :)
🙂🇨🇦
Just curious why you used nails for the legs instead of screws ? Love the saw horses .
It's because nails have more shear strength. You might be interested in a video we did on nails vs screws. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/upkFHgvs35M/видео.html
Praise Jesus Christ! Jane! I was out on a job site today in 29 palms working in a house that was in the middle of the desert, and I needed some work horses quick fast and in a hurry!
I cried out unto Christ Jesus and he answered e with this video!
How great is our God!!
Fantastic build and strong design, thank you Jesus!
I love you're shows very good info and great content thanks from San Antonio tx always smashing my like botton kaboooooooooooooom
Leah. Thats about as easy as it gets. You are awesome.
🙂
I just subbed actually after commenting on a video literally 10 min ago. This is exactly what I need. I'm no master builder, but I could surely benefit from this here being a new homeowner (well 4 years new). Now have the first use for the Sawzall I just bought. LOL
Hi Leah, I like your nature, the way you speak and you seem to enjoy the efforts of your labour. Besides God what else is there? 🙄Awesome build.
How bout that. I was looking for a simple sturdy saw horse build. And along comes Leah!!
Nice! glad it was right on time for you.
What a handy lady, well done. Thanks for the video.
you're very welcome, and thank you!
Love it!!! Thank you Leah
Stackable? OMG, your the best!!!
I love you videos and perfect for the DIY and the professionals well you've helped me with a lot of projects thank you again for continuing to share the wonderful content now I'm off to work today
Brilliant, thank you for giving me my next project. I've got a power saw on my Santa wish list so I might wait till after Christmas day, if he doesn't deliver I've got a handsaw and plenty time during these school holidays. btw I've often wondered why are they called a sawhorse and not a saw stand or something.
Thank you so much for the tip!
Wow! Easy and useful. Thanks.
The exact way I've been making them for ages. Add a leg brace, and you can set a ton of stuff (literally) on them.
?? leg brace
Straight up old skewl. I hope that lube is ivory soap. Love it! Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, 5 2x4 , screws and 1 hour of my time. Yey 🤗
Love your videos. Thank you
Gracias Leah!! I will be building some for my shop!!
I usea couple saw horses and a hollow core door as my work bench often because i dont have a large work bench in my garage and also it's nice to work outside when the weathers nice.
I have 2 old metal ones my gpa had but they are a little low. Been thinking about making a pair of wooden ones. I saw a video on a 3 legged saw horse I think im going to make to further cut material costs. These look solid Leah !! Good job.
mixwell1983 a 3 leg sawhorse.... now that's interesting.
seejanedrill yah another youtuber izzy swan has a video on it. When using in tandum they shouldnt make a difference he says and also you dont have to worry so much about level ground so we'll see.
First things first though i have a 6ft I have to replace between my neighbors garage and my property so thats my current home repair im starting today.
Wow, i didn't realize how easy it is to build a sawhorse . Thamks for that.
you're very welcome, Joe!
