panning for gold is Real Work....the Kern River in California is sparkling with pyrite but after a day of panning I had black sand and zero gold (as far as I could tell). I was thinking that the black sand was iron.
Hey Bob! Happy New year! Yes panning is a lot of work and I do enjoy it from time to time. As for the Kern River, I had a similar experience on a river in Montana. I thought I was rich from all of the sparkle I saw, but after a few pans, I quickly realized it was all fools gold. You can easily tell with how light it is. Gold doesn’t more like that and just sticks to the bottom of the pan. Anyhow, good luck to you out there! I hope you find all of your riches in 2024!

I had talked to someone when researching where I could go mess around and he had mentioned in the email that if I ever was ready to contact them again to make a “habitat plan” or something along those lines to get a dredge going, I’m not in any position to setup a claim or do biologist consult work but might be worth checking out in the future if you wanna try suction on that creek haha!
Side note, expedition Bigfoot on discovery is top notch 😉🍻

Yeah, you should do a live stream. Gonna be down there anyways like you said. Oh, you can get a battery operated remote pan/tilt head system for a tripod to mount your recording piece on. Ones I saw on Amazon were for under $100. They have them for smartphones, cameras, etc. I was trying to figure out what part of your stream you were in, but then you said your camping area is behind you. Now I know. Nice video!
McVid! That is totally a good idea and I’m going to look into that. That would make everything so much easier. I’ll look today on Amazon. I’m still trying to find a good used satellite for my wifi… I may need 2 to reach down there.

I'm considering knocking my tapes down to 20 minutes somehow.

Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 sort of works
After producing many videos like yourself, I thought I found the sweet spot for video length, but also struggle with this. I really try to have a video length between 10-15 minutes. This is due to attention spans of many viewers (self included). But that’s not always the case. For instance, for your videos, I can easily watch an hour long video and be content. For others, 2 minutes is too much. Can I explain this… not really, I mean your videos are uncut and are nothing fancy, but you’re fun to watch and I like your stories. As for some of the others, they are better put together and have good editing but I just lose interest. Weird right, but I think that’s true for most people who watch videos on here. We like some and not others.
Back to my point though on video length. I personally don’t think length matters and here’s why. I can produce an hour long video (this one) and i can see that most are watching 7 minutes worth, so that’s like a 10% view rate, and that’s with no editing! Pretty low right? Ok, now I produce a video that’s 15 minutes with what I think is good editing and I try and keep it engaging and funny but cut out what I think is useless. Now I get people viewing approximately 3 minutes worth, so that’s about 20% view time. What gives such a low watch rate.
Ok, lastly and I know this is a long reply, but my last video was 2:43 seconds. Lots of editing, tried different things and thought I did a pretty decent job, this video I thought would get close to 100% view rate but I’m at 20%!!!
So that’s my point Mo…, do what you want and what’s working for you. If you see that people are dropping off, then maybe you should lessen the videos, but if they are watching then keep doing what your doing. As for me, I already tried experimenting with different length videos and as I’ve proven above, it did absolutely nothing to have people watch longer and be more engaged.
That’s my 2 cents and maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on myself with people and how they watch my videos, it is what it is and I’m

As for the mic, I have a dji mic that I use for me videos, if not you would just hear the creek and nothing else. Although expensive, it was the best investment I made in my video producing adventure. There are plenty of other brands out there to choose from. Totally worth it in my opinion :)
