And we got some awesome closeups of his hair as well😁. Ralphie you did really well on your videoing. That was the only thing you might wanna keep in mind next time. Great job.
Subaru advice: every 100,000 miles you MUST replace the cam belt ! Wise owners do a complete kit, which includes the water pump and tensioner. My daughter bought one in Australia where they're very popular, the Dealer kit was a thousand bucks, but the mechanics and gear heads said the aftermarket kits are better and are $350. Up til 2006 the lateral expansion of the engine caused premature intake gasket failure, watch for leaking antifreeze. Word is, replacement intake gaskets are better than what's on pre-2006 engines. Also, some "experts" will tell you to adjust the valve followers when they get noisy. You can't take the valve covers off with the engine in the car...but good news is, noisy valves at startup is normal on a boxer. If the ticking goes away when the engine heats up, no need to adjust anything. Subarus are good quality long lasting vehicle's, worth fixing.
Head gasket failure was up until 2009 10, mine blew at 200,000 kms which is about the miles this one has, Subaru would never admit it as being a factory fault with there cheap head gaskets.
Keep your eyes on her , 4 years from now she will probably be a famous artist or a model in some car commercials. It is good to be interesting to see what direction the channel goes as the kids grow up and get boyfriends and husbands and wives and then have children of their own in a few years .
That spray can paint is not a catalyst paint and is not going to be durable and won't match because it is a base clear factory paint. White is actually a tough color to match. You would not believe how many different shades of white there is. At least they didn't use the rattle can paint on the inside part of the doors but for a 20 year old Subaru it's good enough
Its interesting. How many 12 (ish) year olds can drive the car to the shop, change oil, and plugs, unsupervised, and with a level of competence not found in SO many adults. One of my favorite parts of your channel(s) is that you are building not only life time memories, but also real world competencies.
Kudos to Ralphie for doing an awesome job on the tune up. He's a great kid.i would definitely take my car to him for service. Most kids his age have no clue how to fix a car. You have shown your kids real values. Glad they arent glued to cell phones. This is the stuff kids should be learning. My husband did the same stuff with his dad when he was ralphies age. Love you guys. ❤
My Father-in-law swore by them they live in Maine and he had one from the early 80's until the day he passed. He would drive them until the body was falling off and then he would go get him a new one. I don't know much about the new ones but the 80's and 90's were great cars. I hope y'all are doin good! 👍 Ricky from Waco Texas.😁
Those car wash brushes work great at home, cleaning your shower, house windows, dusting walls.... They give you some real torque on shower walls and bath tubs without much effort, so feet on the floor scrubbing. Love seeing the kids working right along or without parental supervision, Ralphie Rocks!
That will be a great little car for Wa to drive or at least learn to drive on. Her bug is super cool but it might not be the most practical daily this day and age.
Yeah I have a 2000 legacy.. 274,000 MI, still going.. next to unstoppable in the snow.. has power almost everything.. been really really good 😊 squeezy finally got her Subaru.
Watching Squeezy in the back of that Scooby-Do while Mom was driving was the funniest thing I've seen on RUclips in the last 3 weeks!!🤣😂 OMG! Her expressions are priceless!!😱😳
love your videos, i randomly found your channel a few months ago and had zero interest or knowledge of cars, but i've learned so much watching you. such a great role model, appreciate you and your family!
I used to have a Subaru and someone told me to make sure all the tires were all the same or it would mess up the AWD system. It was unstoppable in Ohio snow
Hi Sleeperdude family. My brother bought a ’98 Subaru Outback with a 5-speed manual,2 years ago, and he loves it. Found it at the Subaru dealer in Downtown Chattanooga.
Pressure check the cooling system to check for Head gasket leaks . The head gasket usually leaks to the outside . The left is the most common one for leaking. Those cars have a fuse slot to put a fuse in and make it 2 wheel drive for better fuel mileage. Any amp fuse works.
Yall are literally my family 20years ago. It always makes my day watching your videos! Reminds my of my childhood. You are a great father and building something great for your children. Don't ever stop!!!!
Pretty nice vehicle for the price. Needs a little bodywork, but it seems sold mechanically. Ralphie did an amazing job with the maintenance and painting! You are blessed with three Great Kids! 👍
We had a 2005 Subie Outback. We gave it to our oldest for school . He drove it to 228,000 miles when the head gasket finally blew. (LH). I did one timing belt change previous on it and wasn't super fun. They are super reliable cars , though.. . enjoy it. Also good job to Ralphie for the awesome tune up tutorial.
I saw a video while back, where this girl drove up to the fuel pump, got out, realized the tank was on the other side of the car, so, she pulled out, turned the vehicle around, and, went to the other side of the pump. She got out, walked around, and, the tank was still on the side away from the pump. She did this three or four times before someone took pity on her, and, parked the car at the pump correctly, so, she could pump her gas. 😂😂😂😅😅😅 It was so stinking hilarious to watch!!!
Hey Josh - how about starting a policy to live with - no one operates any vehicles on or off the farm, unless they have their seatbelts fastened. For y'all - it'll take some getting used to, but that's the whole idea. It becomes a habit when you enforce it - Josh - you have to set the example for your children to see and want to follow. Again - something you can live with!! Chuck in NE Kansas
I was just commenting about a subaru swap in WAWA’s bug on the last video too!!!….along with the mystery machine for squeezy…..nice little subaru….looks like a great copart find!!!
Subaru forester the best car. It is first crossover car. It good on offroad and in the town driving. It steering really good because opposite engine is a cause of low center of gravity. And as long as we talk about engine. It was produced for the US market, so I guess it atmo EJ25. It is mega reliable engine. I have now forester sf5, it issued long long time ago... in 1998, but still in very good condition! So my congratulations about this purchase! And it will be the best twice if it have a TV series transmission.
I’m so happy today. My f350 project finally drove. The clutch was stuck disengaged after the engine swap but the old 93 crew cab dually finally moved again.
Ralphy for those spark plugs that are deep in recess holes cut a piece of rubber heater hose to fit over the plug. The hose can remove the plug as well as insert it to start the threads. Enjoy your family very much! Bob
4:05 You got a Subaru! Nice! Forresters are decent cars. Looks to be about an early 2000s. Boxer engine is good too. Those things will last forever. I drive a 2016 Crosstrek. Just hit 75k on mine today. But yeah. I have a friend who drove those older Subies for years.
that 2nd gen forester is sweet! My parents had 2 of them (03 & 05) when i was a teenager - always loved the design. great interior and that all wheel drive is unstoppable. Bonus points for the big ass sunroof!
Boxer engine valve cover gaskets leak directly onto exhaust, so you'll know when(not if) they start leaking. The road noise helps cover up the rattles. Great little cars, but they are not quiet inside.
We have a 2011 outback. 320k and counting. Its been all over the country from yellowstone to Georgia up to Canada around lake Superior. and everywhere in between. Great family car. You went right on the spark plugs. They dont run well on the cheapies. I tried and changed them in like 5k miles.

Back in the 90s, I bought a suburu wagon with 4x4 for $500. That little wagon ran great and during a surprise ice storm, we pretty much idled it all the way home, but every other vehicle on the road was in the ditch. Welcome to the Subaru family. I got my 2024 Subaru Outback Touring XT exactly one month ago. I traded in my 41,000 mile 2010 2SS/RS Camaro with supercharger and track/suspension (553 HP/505 Torque to the wheels).

I had one of those and drove it for years. Bullet-proof! One tip: Don't use the auto headlight feature (they turn off with the engine and on again after starting). When starting, the spike in voltage from crank to run tends to blow the bulbs. Hi from Australia.
It's the best car I've ever owned, 128,000 and only changed tires, and 1 battery, still original spark plugs, 1 set of front disc brakes, you can't do that with anyother car period.

And props to Ralphie for changing the plugs. Anyone out there that’s changed plugs on a Subie knows, the dohc cars have the plugs right in line with the sides of the frame, so it’s really hard to get them in and out, especially the rear ones. It’s usually easier to jack the engine a tad, just an inch up and it’s a ton easier to get to them.
Ralph, whenever you get under a car always use jack stands. The only thing keeping you alive is a 50 cent o-ring. Don't want my favorite mechanic getting hurt.👍👍
