My mom was raised on a farm in S.Italy in the 30’s and 40’s and she knew the secret to all the natural dyes. Her family’s farm was very self sufficient. Made their own soap from used olive oil and ash water. They would dye stockings with coffee. Nuts and onions for brownish & tan colors.
This to me is the definition of a beautiful and full life. She’s got so much wisdom and beauty to share and you can feel the joy and fulfillment it brings her. I wish you were my grandmother I’d spend hours and hours experimenting with you! The most magical lady ever. I hope to be just like you one day :,)
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Axl Gustavo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This was a delightful presentation. A very restful and soothing experience. Thank you so much for being a lovely teacher, and to your production team for creating and sharing this video 💜
I love this video. I understand that there is more than what you can cram in a one hour video. Also, this doesn't seem to be a tutorial. It's just one woman's way of doing the things she does. I got a great warm feeling just watching Miss Trudi and hope she keeps on doing those things she likes to do. 💟
I've learned canning shelves preserving meat crocheting herbal meds and now we shall learn how to dye cloth. Next will be something but I love learning anything that I can make my self so I don't have to buy it. And it's just so fun learning how to care for your self and do fun things with out the big company's
Trudi, I feel like I stepped into your kitchen. Your video lessons are the best. And I love the clothing you have made also. I am a knitter, crocheter, spinner, weaver, and amateur natural dyer. But I make my own clothing out of my handspun/handwoven etc. You inspire me with your living artistry. And I love the way you achieve many of your colors through soaking.
My this lady is a Goddess with my respect and full admiration of what she knows about dyes. I can not believe how such a beautiful content soooo a small, amount of subscribers.
Thankyou from Comox on Vancouver Island, Canada. I feel as tho I have been on a voyage to Australia! I’m going to start trying the rolling of flowers, leaves etc and on my silk!!!
Greg is rather handsome and so helpful too, the ladies ability to get a use or several uses out of every little thing and getting beauty out of things many would just waste or throw away is inspiring.
This is fascinating work, fairly simple and creative, very satisfying.. thank you for sharing dear lady. It reminded me of my grandmother also using same easy technique with onion skins when I was a little girl.. meaningful memories revisited ! 🥰
My first time to dye in more than a square of material. Big fun. Your skills are many and I would be grateful if you would do more videos on each of your lovely dyeing and then on the sewing of garments, slow stitching and the use of wooden buttons and door shavings!! I've been a crafter for many years and unless we use technology, all our work will die out. Bless you.. Marion
Thank you for sharing this excellent instruction. It was fascinating to watch the process and to learn how to make individual experiments. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm. I also love the mosaic in the kitchen. Thank you
Hello from Suffolk, England 🙋🏼 I'm so pleased your video came up on my YT feed, so pleased to have found you. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge, this is something I've been interested in for a while now. Looking forward to watching all your other videos 😊
I just came upon this video and I’m so glad I did. This last few years I’ve been learning so many things we can do with the things we have around us. Growing up in the ‘60’s in San Francisco I am going back to the hippie days and this fits right in with that lifestyle. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and wisdom!✌️❤️
I love this video! Trudi you are a true creator. I love your clothes, your wooden accessories, your land, and your curious spirit. Thanks for not telling us how to do things but showing us how to be creative. Cheers from Austin, TX
Wow, just wow! I am in awe of your process. Thank you so much for being so very generous and share your vast knowledge and wisdom. I have no idea how you do it all! I am so inspired and will try my hand at natural dyeing.
Thank you Trudi. You are a very generous and creative person. I really enjoyed seeing the whole process including how you stitched the pieces. Just fabulous!!
Lovely presentation - thank you Trudi on sharing your knowledge. Andrew you are truly a master of your craft as this was such a pleasure to watch. Best wishes to you both xxxx Sharon
Absolutely loving your connection with nature and the incredible amount of knowledge you have. Thanks so much for sharing Trudi. Seeing the before and after is really inspiring Xxx
Thank you for this beautiful program. I like the idea of natural mordants coming from nature or even rusty nails. I have never done any natural dyeing, except easter eggs, and I find the processes fascinating. I am watching you from far away in the Pacific Northwest of U.S.A. It appears I am here two years after you filmed this program.
So ridiculously inspiring!! Thank you so much Trudi and team for sharing this wonderful knowledge. I live on acreage in Mundaring and have already started my adventures with using a couple of wild oxalis species (pink and yellow), eucalyptus cinerea and many others. Such an exciting skill and craft with endless outcomes. Can't wait to make my own clothing one day with my own hand dyed material.
Oh Trudi, eres una gran mentora y sobre todo, una gran mujer. Gracias por transmitirnos tus valiosos conocimientos. He pasado un tiempo muy enriquecedor contigo. Un inmenso abrazo desde México.
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos and for your generosity in sharing your knowledge with us. I am beginning to explore the wonderful world of botanical prints and dyes and learned a lot from you 💕. Thank you
I've been trying to figure out dying wool without using really expensive acid dyes. I really like the lemon trick with the salt and rusty bits. I guess that's about as natural of an acid dye as you can get. Truly inspiring. Also really like sun dying. Being new to dying wool, I'm scared of felting or seizing my yarn and I guess I've been overthinking the "proper" way to dye it. I like this technique because its more foolproof. Thank you for helping me not destroy my wool. lol
Hi Trudi, I am so pleased to have found your podcast... Could you tell me please if the vegetables create Colorfast Dyes? Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere, as I said Im new here. Thank you so much for taking the time to pass on your knowledge. Lyn xx
Thank you. Very interesting, never considered dyeing with rust or rolling up leaves/flowers. Looking forward to trying when our weather improves (uk winter!)
Trudy it is really amazing of the works of art you are achieving with our Aussie plants. I wish I had found you before now as I really love what you have done. I must say you have opened my mind to another dimension of how to be creative in what we have around us. So many thanks and wishing you well.
I thoroughly watching this right through to the end. I must be daft. I want to learn how to colourfast the work once dyed. You skimmed quickly over some parts saying (for instance) eucalyptus was the mordant. The oil from eucalyptus leaves. Could I just use some eucalyptus essential oil? How much? What other mondants are there? I loved the cotton and wool eco prints! I was actually surprised because they came out of the pots sooo dark. They're beautiful I'm a new fan from Canada, again .... loved the video! So perhaps a little explanation for me with more info on mordants? I soaked some dark sky petunias and got a wonderful shade of deep dark purple. I have a cotton crocheted doily for my table top ~ I'd love to dye it and not lose the colour upon it's first wash! How do I do that?
My mom was raised on a farm in S.Italy in the 30’s and 40’s and she knew the secret to all the natural dyes. Her family’s farm was very self sufficient. Made their own soap from used olive oil and ash water. They would dye stockings with coffee. Nuts and onions for brownish & tan colors.
I wish all of us here could sit with her in her kitchen and garden to learn and be all together!
YOU MADAM ARE LIKE A MAGICAL FAIRY 🧚♀️ FROM MY DREAMS!!! 😍TEACH ME YOUR WAYS!!!! 😍😍🤩
That blanket is absolutely gorgeous!!!!

My wedding dress was dyed in tea - it was made of voile - layers and layer of voile. Stunning .
This was a delightful presentation. A very restful and soothing experience. Thank you so much for being a lovely teacher, and to your production team for creating and sharing this video 💜
Love your variety types of plants and rusty metals! And what you create different combos of natural dye! Thank you! 🥰❤️
Wow, this lady is a treasure. I'd love to see the silks dried.
Just love trudy!! If you freeze the lemon first they squeeze really easily 💕
You're so beautiful.. Your knowledge so big.. Your way to explain and tell. Thank you so much 🙏. Greetings from Italy
Lost for words. What treasures we have to enrich our life. Gratitude is not enough but for now and daily I thank you implicitly. Warm Regards.

The fabric at the end was incredible. No industrial process could ever achieve so beautiful results such as these. ❤
I feel like I have been given a gift... Thank you!

At 19.47 Trudi mentions a herb that was used as part of the solar dye process. The herb is called Weld or sometimes Dyer's Rocket.

Such a fantastic example of mastery through years of collecting knowledge. Thank you. (I grew up near Wagga Wagga)
