I thoroughly watching this right through to the end. I must be daft. I want to learn how to colourfast the work once dyed. You skimmed quickly over some parts saying (for instance) eucalyptus was the mordant. The oil from eucalyptus leaves. Could I just use some eucalyptus essential oil? How much? What other mondants are there? I loved the cotton and wool eco prints! I was actually surprised because they came out of the pots sooo dark. They're beautiful I'm a new fan from Canada, again .... loved the video! So perhaps a little explanation for me with more info on mordants? I soaked some dark sky petunias and got a wonderful shade of deep dark purple. I have a cotton crocheted doily for my table top ~ I'd love to dye it and not lose the colour upon it's first wash! How do I do that?

I've learned canning shelves preserving meat crocheting herbal meds and now we shall learn how to dye cloth. Next will be something but I love learning anything that I can make my self so I don't have to buy it. Are the fabrics in a boiling pot or does she pour boiled water over and let it sit ?

Wow that’s a great amount of interesting information about natural dyes, the equipment to use, & how to keep safe. Never thought that the type of pot metals would make such a difference with the outcome of the dyes. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video & valuable information!

I loved your demonstration and creativity Trudi ; I would love to see what/how you make items with your beautiful fabrics. My mom would use veggies and charcoals to make her own make-up. Like beets for blush and lip color and charcoals for eye makeup and I wished I could of recorded her as she was also a wealth of knowledge and quite witty. I am inspired by your hobby and would love to combine the two as I love using plant based and no waste. Thank you for sharing!

My mom was raised on a farm in S.Italy in the 30’s and 40’s and she knew the secret to all the natural dyes. Her family’s farm was very self sufficient. Made their own soap from used olive oil and ash water. They would dye stockings with coffee. Nuts and onions for brownish & tan colors.

This is wonderful. I really like the Captured by Color series. They really are some of the better videos on RUclips about dying wool and natural dyes. I like that its recorded in the same style as television workshops used to be like with Bob Ross or Martha Stewart, except more intimate. Nowadays people just snap their fingers and the videos jump to finished products, or it seems like most instructional videos are like that. This is much better.

I've been trying to figure out dying wool without using really expensive acid dyes. I really like the lemon trick with the salt and rusty bits. I guess that's about as natural of an acid dye as you can get. Truly inspiring. Also really like sun dying. Being new to dying wool, I'm scared of felting or seizing my yarn and I guess I've been overthinking the "proper" way to dye it. I like this technique because its more foolproof. Thank you for helping me not destroy my wool. lol

How do you discharge indigo from wool safely? Any resources? I've got it in my hair and I'm trying to figure out a maybe innovative way to get it out

It would be good to have mentioned briefly that she scoured and mordanted the cloth / wool first. Sunlight doesn't make any difference to dye colours
