- In this workshop, Trudi explains how acids and alkalines can change colours in the textile natural dyeing processes. This works in immersion and solar dyeing as well as eco-printing. Trudi prefers to use potassium alum as her mordant of choice. It is safe and effective and enhances the original colour.
Mordants will be covered in more detail in subsequent workshops.

I've really enjoyed watching your demonstration on dying. Since I live in Sweden, the natural herbs and plants are a bit different. Fascinating how acid and alcaline changes the colours! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 🙂
super in love with this lady, so calming
The best demonstration and educational video on dyeing that I’ve seen yet! Thanks for sharing!
This was so interesting, thank you for this tutorial, you open the door for so many opportunities of how to create your own dye. Hello from the East coast of 🇺🇸❤️❤️
I loved your demonstration and creativity Trudi ; I would love to see what/how you make items with your beautiful fabrics. My mom would use veggies and charcoals to make her own make-up. Like beets for blush and lip color and charcoals for eye makeup and I wished I could of recorded her as she was also a wealth of knowledge and quite witty.
I am inspired by your hobby and would love to combine the two as I love using plant based and no waste.
Thank you for sharing!
An enormous thank you! your videos are clear, well done and you have a good human spirit.

HOW WONDERFUL, YOUR CREATIVE WORK IS APPRECIATED THANK YOU!!
1:07 well, vinegar is nature. It's the action of microorganisms on alcohol. Basically, yeast makes alcohol out of something that can ferment, then some microorganisms make that alcohol turn bad by converting it into an acid.
@Alexander Miller yes you can , you just ferment it :)
@ganderwalker The Good Thing About Yeast Is That It Reproduces Easily... Which Means You CAN Grow Yeast If You Choose To. And Also If You Know How. 😅
Wow thank you! Great tips
wonderful information........would love crochet/knit info or patterns for beautiful vests and sweaters.......
Fascinating 😍
This is great information . I had a query , can we use a copper pot for boiling in bundle dyeing
yes but it'll have an effect on the color as well :)
I was hoping to see the color results.
♥️💚
It would be good to have mentioned briefly that she scoured and mordanted the cloth / wool first. Sunlight doesn't make any difference to dye colours
The Sunlight Is Just Using The Heat To Process The Color Over Time Instead Of Taking Electricity To Obtain Instant Gratification.
A Different Way, An Older Way, All Around.
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
S'il vous plais la traduction en français merci beaucoup
How do you watch and not yell at the screen, no, you confused the ash water with the calcium!! And you used the same measuring spoon,
