Clearly musical "children" of Talking Heads and just as enjoyable for that influence in this particular piece. I love both this original and the Dr. Dog cover, for different reasons. I listen to them depending upon my mood and what energy I want to experience.
it doesn't matter if you heard dr dog's first and came here, or if you heard aih's version first, and then found dr dog. all that matters is that you now know of two great bands
For some reason when ever I play this in the gym or exercising in general it gives me inspiration to push myself further than I thought😌

Dr Dog's cover of this is equally as good... in a completely different way.
What this version offers that Dr Dog's doesn't:
- More energy
- More passion
- More creativity in the studio
- Better "boomdadadadadada"s. (Honestly my favorite part of the song.)
- More psychedelia
- Maybe a headache if you're already feeling kinda sick
- Steel drum (nuff said)
What Dr Dogs version offers that this doesn't:
- More laid back
- More harmony
- Honestly, I think it's more beautiful (but that doesn't make this one ugly)
- A whole lot less passion
- Better "heart it races alone"s
- A lot more instruments and a super addicting guitar riff
- Probably way more accessible for your friends and family
A plethora of pros and a couple of cons for both songs. They're really great songs in their own ways.
(I personally like this one better, but I listen to Dr Dog's more, I think it's because of the headache thing. But I honestly like this one a little better.)
I agree that both songs are equally as good. not to insult you but, most of those pros and cons are opinion based and not universally true. I would disagree with you on the passion part. I feel passion from Dr. Dogs version and I bet they were very passionate about the song. I hate to stray off the point of "both songs are equally good" but I really dont think it's fair to say that Dr. Dog didn't put allot passion into their version. But in the end its just my opinion v. yours. No one universal truth and that is what music great. Music is what you want it to be and is different to each individual :)

This original version is hilarious. Sounds like a god damnn circus.
It bums me out to see people saying this version sucks. If all I could say about this is "it sucks," I think I would be the one who sucked for not even attempting to appreciate artistic risk.

Lots of covers of songs are more popular than the original, and hence are what will show up on the first result. For fun, here's some covers you've probably heard and never known were covers.
1985 - Bowling for Soup became an instant hit on release, but the original is by a smaller punk band called SR-71
I love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett was a huge success, but the original came out seven years prior by a small British band called The Arrows. That band formed and disbanded before Jett was able to create a hit from their song.
Twist and Shout - The Beatles was the most popular of many covers of the song including a cover by The Who. All of the covers completely overshadowed the original by another small British band called Top Notes
Mad World - Gary Jules is the first version that comes up on any search result of this song, second to another cover of it by Adam Lambert. This version isn't bad but Dr. Dog made this song much better. If not better, certainly more accessible and listenable. It's a beautifully written song and clearly it took some real great rock and roll musicians to do it it's due justice.

Dr.Dog basically stole this song from them. This is just so obnoxious and childish. Doesn't really seem very professional or entertaining. Horrible singing. Dr.Dog really does this song and its complex lyrics much more justice then this band ever could
