Heard this on the radio yesterday for the first time in a decade and the waves of nostalgia were so strong I felt like I was tripping. Love this song truly a great one.
I too fell in love with the Dr Dog version and when I heard this original, I thought it was so abrasive! After listening to it again and again it has grown on me so much that I LOVE it! It's so full of fun and excitement-I can't help but dance! The Dr Dog version is slow and sultry and just as good, just a COMPLETELY different vibe. We should be celebrating the wonder that is music, that such different versions of one song can both be amazing and inspiring in their own ways. I LOVE MUSIC!
I think you have to listen to this song twice to really hear it. The first time, I was like "wtf"? Now the second time I'm tuned into whatever magic is happening here. It's funny how the brain works like that. I still like the dr. Dog one. But this has it's own great qualities and style
WOW Just letting the creators of this know this song lives rent free in my mind constantly. This song came to me during an extremely fun and happy time in my life. I will never forget it.
I found Helsinki first before dr dog. They rocked it better imho. What a weird beautiful song. 15 years later, I still listen to this song nearly every day. Incredible the amount of time I have spent on one beautiful masterpiece.
Okay. I just heard the cover version for the first time a few days ago despite this being released over a decade ago. Wow. I didn’t know this was the original and had no idea the video was this creative. I had to pause it to take it all in. Like something off America’s got talent or something.
kinda late, but yes!! i was ~5-7yrs old and my dad always played this! it always gets stuck in my head when i think about my childhood. man, these were the days.
No. Sadly I didn’t hear this music until after 2020. The good news is that I listen to this era of indie music and honest to god it sounds like it came out in 2015 or so. So much of it sounds ahead of its time.
my boyfriend is obsessed with this song... he loves the creativity and he got all excited when he herd it in a store that i forced him into..... well he likes it now, he wanted to by the stores cd that they play.... lol these guys are just a great band
Architecture is incredible. You really can't believe how great music is out there once you detach the umbilical cord of the radio. I saw them live in San Francisco with Yacht and Still Flying and I stood right underneath that chick. In fact, the bassist stood over me on the speaker and dripped sweat all over me! They are incredible. Look up their Pirate Babies-produced music video.
always liked this song... the band is talented as hell, just not in the usual way, I guess. I liked how you guys described it having a kind of a unique "energy." pretty accurate. it just has this weird vibe that makes me want to dance
this is up there with some of the soul guitar artists as most influential grooves that the impact and reach far outweighs how much pub/$ they see from it. Just heard a commercial last week that has a 2-3 note variation of this melody.
I really wasn't crazy about this album at first. It wasn't until after listening to it in the car for a while that I started to like it. It's a strangely soothing CD to sing (scream) along to - just pure silliness.
Guys, if you ever come back to México, be sure you have a place to land. My sister is your biggest mexican fan. And we know a lot of archaelogists. Be here on octover 31st to November de 2nd... best days to be in central México.
the original is the ultimate version, no question about it. This song can stand alone. Ive been listening to both versions for some time now and both deserve praise
I interpret this song as a reference to the feeling when taken to an altered state of consciousness in particular, psychoactive substances and religious experience. Love it so much
both versions of the songs are great jesus you guys respect both artists 1 for making an original great fun song and the other for not ruining the song but making another brilliant version of it! we all have our preferences but respect other peoples opinions atleast
I loved this video! Very inventive. I found it to be positive. Like the creativity, community, puppets, tribal voodoo, neon trippy & most of all fun. Love the beasts. Such a good song.
This tune is magnificent! So much energy! The Dr Dog version is so very low key after this effort. I'm glad for people that like it, but it can't hold a candle to the original.
Stop hating on this song and its video. You may prefer Dr. Dog's version, but that doesn't mean this one is bad. This is the original song, full of vibrancy, creativity, and energy. In my opinion Dr. Dog's spin is a stereotypical dry, surfer sounding remake. Much less energy, much more pseudo passion. If you like it better, listen to it, but all of the derogatory comments are irritating.
See, I respect people's right to like the cover better, but you need to realize that they're different. This version's instrumental is more melodic, especially with the steel drum that makes it feel a bit tropical, even. The video and song together give off this creativity vibe that I can dig. Dr Dog version is more tuned to mainstream audiences due to the fact that it's guitar heavy. The guitar in that version is slick and very well played, and replaces the artsy / indie feel of the "boom dadadada" in this version. Tldr: Both versions are great, but other than lyrically (and even then, phrasing and timing are altered), are vastly different with their own vibes and groove.
So here I am hanging out in Portland Oregon at 3am browsing the hate comments on a good song when just a little ways down I see a nice comment and oh hey we went to high school together.
I love Dr dog and when I first heard this I was in disbelief that something so good as that cover generated from this. I can't stop listening to this though, they're so good in their own respects.
I'm a long time Dr. Dog fan, but I heard this version first and I think it's better. This version better represents the mood of what the song is about.
AIH version - for when you're feeling great, driving, walking, or throwing a party in the summer. Dr. Dog version - for when you're trying to get in a chick's pants and you want some slow romantic background tunes.
I'd listen to the Dr. Dog version when I'm feeling great, driving, walking, or throwing a party in the summer. You make it sound like their version is so low-brow. They are both fun!
You've got to admit though, the beat in this song is catchy as all get out. So all they really had to do is make it sound more amazing, in which they did tenfold. They literally took someone else's one hit wonder and made it possibly their best song. Which, as you stated, is utterly brilliant :,)
Many people have different opinions about this song, because they may be into other types of music like hard rock, rap, country, alternative, reggae, regeton, pop. This song actually has a different sound and I think it's pretty cool.
Heard this on the radio yesterday for the first time in a decade and the waves of nostalgia were so strong I felt like I was tripping. Love this song truly a great one.
This version is so cool and different that I can listen to this and Dr. Dog's cover back to back without getting irritated.
I too fell in love with the Dr Dog version and when I heard this original, I thought it was so abrasive! After listening to it again and again it has grown on me so much that I LOVE it! This reminds me of when Jose Gonzales covered Heartbeats by The Knife.

Me too, Brad. Me too. :)
High school band for me! I've been listening to it for 15 years now.
No other band is ever going to make me feel the way this band does.
1:08 gives me goosebumps. It’s like flashing scenes of nature through my head
I found Helsinki first before dr dog. They rocked it better imho. What a weird beautiful song.
15 years later, I still listen to this song nearly every day. Incredible the amount of time I have spent on one beautiful masterpiece.
Totally agree!!! I always hear people listening to the cover I'm just like y so scared to be a bit weird 😂
Thats WAY too many times
Dr. Dogs version is so much better that it hurts...
LSD, proud partners of architecture in Helsinki
I listened to this song every day of my senior year of high school in 2009 and I still just love it so much
One of my favorite wake up songs!!!!!!!!
Lmao, i'm literally blasting this to wake up now xD

@Toni Capone yes, I just turned 32 two weeks ago. This song Is definitely in the soundtrack of my teenagehood
At the start it was firstly weird. By the end it was genius.
Dr. Dog's cover is pretty amazing, but the original is too much fun to deny!!! I love the video too!

why can't they both be awesome for their own reasons?
I thought we agreed to never be creative again.

I feel the soul much more in this song than the Dr Dog version. This one really speaks to me.
This scared the hell out of me when I was a kid
And a little bit about me now that I'm an adult.
@@drapik9144 thats fair tbh
I love how much fun & chemistry they have.
You can hear the fun in their voices.

I love this song, it makes me feel young.
This randomly popped into my head today, and I'm so glad it did. 🎉
I was not expecting this to be the original song 😭😭
Yeah it's way better than that shit cover
My gods this song is addictive. And the video is so adorably sublime. Brilliant. We haven't stopped listening for weeeeeeeeeeks.

I have no idea who Dr dog is. I heard or AIC in college and loved their style.
It’s been 17 years? We miss you

First time I heard this song I was kinda meh about it. But the more I listen to it, it’s a banger. Very free spirited!
I keep coming back to this video. I don't know what it is, but something about this song just captivates me.
Respect to Architecture for writing this song. Respect to Dr. Dog for unlocking its true potential.
Alejandro Garcia shakey graves?
The Dr. Dog version is amazing. i thought that was the original version, haha
I prefer this one
Unlocking its true potential?
More like making a boring bedtime lullaby version..
Alejandro Garcia I disagree.
I loved this video! Very inventive.
I found it to be positive. Like the creativity, community, puppets, tribal voodoo, neon trippy & most of all fun. Love the beasts. Such a good song.

Bruh how
love RUclips for little gems like this 😉
From 1:07 on I went from "What the fuck," to "My god, this is good."
way more energy and it reaches farther away from regular music than the dr.dog version. love this way more
I like both versions
same
It really is the catchiest song ever. I've listened to it about 4 times in a row now, it's addictive D:
I just learned that this song isn't by Dr. Dog, so I looked it up, and I'm not sure what just happened.
you were finally able to hear the better original?
Same honestly thought this was a dr. dog song
Jordan Duff lol the original is trash.... dr. Dog did this song justice and redeemed it.
@@dylankelly8437 Do you think Dr. Dog ever would've covered it in the first place if they thought it was trash?
