Thanks, for the lesson Doc. I would like to suggest this: we as students need to be familiar with theoretical terms. It is not all up to you as the instructor. The material is taught by the teacher, and caught by the student. It takes practicing with a purpose, with a lot of repetition and prayer thrown in for good measure.

Hey JJ! Thanks so much for this video and other videos prior to this one I've learned so much from you! I'd just like to ask if it would be possible to do a video on improvising using modes like the dorian mode you used in this video? But regardless thanks so much for all your tutorial videos.

seemed pretty tricky for you to go into so much detail there - i feel saying the notes isn't that necessary as you've got the keyboard at the top but nevertheless this really really helped me thanks!!

3:09 Of course, that still works, under the melody note (Eb) there, at the same time leading into the Fm(7), for a bunch of reasons I can't fully explain, but try that over an bass E. Gives you a half-step walk up.

Of course, you can fully explain. Every point of view is equally valid. Here's how I might see it. D,F# and Ab can be interpreted as a rootless E7 or tritone subbed as Bb7 which leads into Fm7 nicely. I said it wasn't right simply because it wasn't what I was going for. Thanks for the comment and support.

Pianodownloads Yeah, I know what you mean.
      Happy accident.
      Love discovering things that way.
Fingers either veer away from their intended target, or muscle memory throws something in from another context and "Whoa!"
So bonus! Thanks and you're welcome.

If I had the chord names I could recreate the voicings on my own and get most of them right on.

Why can’t people just slow down the speed of your videos and pause it to get things note for note? Plus, if the viewers are into jazz and trying to copy you note for note on everything - then they are really missing the point to jazz music.
