    Hiromi Tango, 'Promised,' 3 -- 31 May 2014
Hiromi Tango's first solo show at Sullivan+Strumpf, 'Promised', will immerse audiences in a brilliant spectrum of colour, shape and light. Originally from Japan, in 1998, not knowing any English, Tango relocated to Australia. Working as a studio assistant for her now husband Craig Walsh, Tango started to develop her wildly unique practice. Involving large scale sculptures, performance, video and photography Tango's beautifully crafted and mesmerisingly intricate work aims to engage with audiences on a deeply personal and therapeutic level.
Until now, Tango's breathtaking works have only been presented within institutions. She has created site-specific installations for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane; Casula Powerhouse, Sydney and Hazelhurst Regional Gallery. Recently Tango has also participated in exhibitions in Korea and Japan. After 10 years of creating beautiful site-specific institutional works, Hiromi Tango will now present Promised, her first ever commercial exhibition.
Tango has undertaken major community engagement works including Pistil, a sculptural site-specific installation that was created for Contemporary Australia: Women, Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery Of Modern Art (2012), and more recently she was commissioned as the 2013 Jackson Bella Room Artist at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Here, she created Dance, an immersive environment with soft forms growing up walls and across the floor and ceiling. Other recent projects and exhibitions include Hiromi Hotel: Moon Jellies, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre, Sydney (2013); Traces -- Blue (with Craig Walsh), Art Setouchi 2013, Japan; Home -- Gwangju, Gwangju Beinnale, Korea (2012); Hiromi Hotel -- Mixed Blood, 'Primavera', Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (2011) and Behind the Door, PICA (2010), Perth.
