One of the many reasons why I think our buying power is so impactful is due to our position in society. The constant disrespect and bullying we face both online and in real life is deeply ingrained in a lot of our self esteem and self image. Brands capitalize off pinpointing insecurity and leaning into it. I personally think that the way a lot of these platforms allow us to be put down, disenfranchised, and berated, is so that they can eventually reap the benefits. This is why it’s so important that we learn to act decisively as a collective and take our own image into our hands.

The bottom line is: with all of the videos on growing natural hair, and how to take care of it, if you're hair isn't growing it's because you're not taking care of it, period. A lot of Black women don't like Beyonce because she's not out here being ratchet and all of her business ain't on the internet. It's the same reason they attacked an infant Blue Ivy. The reviews have been pretty good and I'm going to try the conditioner and the hair oil myself. I wish black women would glorify type 4 hair more. We put mixed race woman with 3a-3b hair first. Black women with type 3 hair second. And black women with type 4 hair last.
My mom has 4a hair, but 3 of her siblings have type 3 (we are all black). I love her, but she's always putting down her hair and mine (4c) and complimenting the type 3 in our family instead😭
My cousin recently had a baby boy. He's dark skin with loose hair texture like her sister, and my mom said I wish his texture will stay like this. Whenever I say my hair feels soft after I moisturize it, she responds that my hair is not soft and then starts listing family members with type 3 hair. My aunt (who I adore) with 3b hair says I should just let my mom style my hair because she does it better...but my mom hates my hair texture😮‍💨. I can't STAND this, and I know so many black women deal with texturism in our families. At least my mom is not colorist. But the texturism is so annoying.
It NEEDS to stop in black families everywhere.

We need to let go of this regressive, ignorant ideals we have of other black women. @meshellw3370 Please stop spreading lies like that. If you have hair that grows, you have hair that can see length. The only thing genetics will determine is the rate of growth and the only reason why a lot of black women don’t see progress is mostly because their hair breaks off faster than it grows. With the adequate care and knowledge, your hair will be long and healthy. Just look at black women with locs who have hair past their waistlines. It’s not rocket science. Like you said, I think the marketing of light skin loose textured women for hair growth has become stale the more black women, especially darker-skin women with tighty coiled hair embrace their beauty and document their hair care journey for others in the community to see. The diversity in hairstyles, texture and lengths promoted by dark skin black women is so beautiful to see and even gave me confidence to loc my hair two years ago watching their videos. I think overall the community is starting to shift from the obsession over long hair to just loving your OWN hair and keeping it healthy at any length.
