Evidently Something You're welcome. 😊 A man who makes his wife / girlfriend feel the way yours does (and vice versa) - vivacious, playful, gleaming with energy and positivity, uninhibited and a tad naughty maybe - in a charming, innocent way - more so in front of a camera, for a million folks to watch - is a man carved for her. You two radiate an uncanny compatibility - doesn't take a rocket scientist to discern. Lovely!
Must add that the lens loves her, too - and she knows it.
Many happy years together, My friend.
      Thank you for the video.

The single most informative discussion of video for the XT2 i've seen. I'm busy eating up everything I can find on this issue because it involves a whole new lens platform for me as well as a camera. Thanks for all the detailed analysis.

First video I've seen from you guys and I really like it. Personable, easy style and excellently more about the end results rather than a dreary listing of technical data that can be easily read rather than endured upon the ears. Very nicely shot with your cheery assistant too. Myself, I have an X-Pro2 and aside from a couple of nitpicks (diopter dial too easy to jolt in bag for one) I dearly love it, those colour profiles do have something magic about them. I hadn't used it for video yet, as I'm pretty much just a stills photographer. I did find the colour profile tips you provided very interesting though, and it seems that lowering sharpness is definitely a boon in video, as well as contrast. Funnily enough, my favourite profile for stills is Classic Chrome. My least favourite used to be provia for the old X-Trans sensors, but it's beginning to grow on me, and from your video I find it interesting that it is far more visually appealing in motion than my usual Classic Chrome go-to. I also dig the Pro-Neg profiles.
So, yes, great video and to the point with a refreshing angle of approach. I'll be subscribing. Cheers!

    • @EvidentlySomething
      @EvidentlySomething  8 лет назад +1

Hi Peter, thanks for tuning in and thank you also for your kind words! We love the look Classic Chrome provides, too. It's probably one of the two or three profiles we use the most.
For this video we kept the regular footage within the Provia profile since it is the closest and quickest way to natural color with the Fuji.
We only had the chance once to use an X-Pro2 - for a couple of days - and loved it! Such a great camera!
Were it not for our video topics we could easily use the X-Pro2 all day for all things photographic. A joy to use as pretty much everything from Fuji it seems. Good choice!
      Welcome to our little channel!

It also looks like you used two other things that improved the feeling of the video from the X-T2 that some here might want to know about. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
1.) A constant 1/50th shutter speed paired with 23.98 frames per decond or natural film-like motion.
2.) A neutral density filter to help you stay at 1/50th shutter speed.

    • @EvidentlySomething
      @EvidentlySomething  8 лет назад +2

indeed, both point are good ones to be added! Shutter speed throughout at 1/50th. Although it is easy with the X-T2 to overlook a slight deviation to 1/40th or 1/60th, which happened to us occasionally.

The internal microphone is certainly better than in most other comparable cameras! You can use an external one like the Rode.

    • @techmaester

I agree, even Canon overall has great sound recording, such as the Rebel T3i, a great choice for Full HD at a much larger than desirable data rate. Five minutes, you have 1 GB video file. Of course, that can't play smoothly on older computers that can playback 1080p MP4 just fine. T3i records in that old MPEG-2 or MOV format.

I've been using this camera non-stop for the past 2-3 weeks and I still found this review really informative. Nice work. I think next time you should note if it's a video or photo review in the title. I think a lot of people would find this review useful if they knew that you were comparing all of the film simulation modes with highlight / shadows / sharpness adjustments. Also you put 'velvia soft' instead of 'astia soft' in there somewhere. Anyways keep up the good work.

Yeah, I see that there is blurriness. Had this problem using it yesterday to find that the X-T2 must be set to C (Continuous) Autofocus, then the results will be sharp (clear). S (Single) seems to behave like M (Manual) Focus, as autofocus in that mode does not work for video, and even occasionally when set to shoot stills. I would assume a defect or firmware problem. Alas, there is a flickering problem that is recorded in the video, but is more frequently seen on the screen while recording. This is a potential issue that a future firmware upgrade may correct. Yes, Fujifilm is behind in its video capabilities compared to the likes of some competitors (such as there is no match for the Panasonic GH5), but for stills, the image quality at most ISO yields very good-outstanding results if the settings are correct for photography. The 18-55 mm kit lens is fabulous, both for its quality-value rating (I give it 5 out of 5). Low light performance, a good bit behind the Nikon D500 (because it is a sports camera though slightly more expensive body only), but the X-T2 is probably best labeled as enthusiast/street camera, capable of some of the best photo quality up to ISO 3200 in low light (ISO 6400 in good light is very good), and built/looks like a professional product. If you are looking for the best in video recording, I would go with Panasonic; even the GH4 is pretty awesome, but it does not have phase detection, which I don't think seems to work (poorly implemented or isn't supported) during video recording on the X-T2. There aren't any videos I could find on RUclips addressing the flickering issue during video recording on the X-T2, so it may be a known issue due to the nature of the image processor, I don't know. Again, hopefully a future firmware update could fix the problem. Current version is 2.0. That's my experience. Good luck.

    Hi !
My first Review that i see from u, very high quality and beautiful, about the Camera i got. Have it now two weeks and i love it.
If u interested in this Camera u should buy the Booster Grip.
    Gives u 30 min of 4k instead of 10min. 11fps without 8.
2 Batterys more, headphonejack and u have a nice charger where u can charge the two Batteries in the Grip and so on.....
Ive the Grip to 90 % on the Camera... and if u go to take some streetshots, 23 or 35 2.0 wr lens on it whitout the Grip and uve a very light, smal Street Cam.
The "missing" Touch-Screen..... I would turn it of cause i hated it to set the Point with my nose =) So I like the Joystick much more workin mostly with the Evf. But this is a personal preference.
I like ur beautiful Review very much but i would love it more, if u would use new Lenses and Firmware with a new Camera =)
    Nice Greetings.
And i love to suscribe to yar Channel hope to see more beautiful Vids =)

The production quality and editing of this channel is superb and this review is no different. Wonderful! I had a few questions regarding your B-roll shots. What lens were you using? Also, unless your arm is bionic, those car shots were extremely smooth and steady: Were you using a stabilizer or gimbal at all? And for the focusing, I would assume you were using the auto focus for a majority of the shots as well? Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks Tim! Regarding the auto focus it took us some time getting used to the different modes. Mostly it worked well and compared to the previous Fuji cameras we think it's a huge step forward. Not on par with Canon's Dual Pixel AF probably. Also it's going to be exciting to see the Olympus E-M1 Mark 2 coming out soon. What lens are you using?

We have yet to fully grasp all the color options, they are all beautiful in their own regards. We tend to prefer the slightly less color-saturated ones in most situations, with more neutral tones. A dialed down Provia looks very nice and natural, also Astia Soft seems very nice. Needless to say that everybody loves Acros, too - we've seen some beautifully atmospheric videos with that. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel!

Such a nice review guys! 👌 I just have a doubt. I noticed your takes are very stabilized, unlike a lot of fuji videos test I found. Is it because of the 18-55 (which is stabilized) or because you used a glidecam or something similar?

Well done. Great review. A note to Sony users, many of these picture profile types or similar, can be achieved by using the Creative Menu section and adjusting the selection to your taste. Sony is not given enough credit for it's creative style capabilities. It seems that Fuji makes those options more visible to their camera users. I'll be posting some results on my channel shortly. so you can judge for yourself

Thanks! Really great way of showing the profiles. Thanks for taking a lot of time to make it right. I've got a question about the occasional shift in light. Is it you adjusting the aperture while shooting? I've been thinking of using a variable ND filter rather than the steppy aperture rings. Is it hard to get the exposure right? Is there a live histogram?

Hey, thanks for watching and for your kind words. The light shifts are from the 18-55mm lens set to Auto-Aperture mode. The camera then auto-adjusts the steps according to light exposure. Which can be convenient in some situations but we would now tend to always use a fixed aperture setting since the hard shifts are quite apparent. One problem with the X-T2 is the lack of any histogram/waveforms. You have to judge exposure simply by looking at the LCD display or through the viewfinder, which can be tricky. Hopefully Fuji will introduce some kind of histogram via Firmware upgrades. Should be possible.

Cool video, music and editing! Did you use any gimbal for the handheld shots?

Really nicely done! Very good angle and cinematography! Will you be doing a review on the X-PRO2 anytime soon? :-) Cheers from Melbourne, Australia.

Thanks Maya, currently we're testing the Panasonic G85. Also eagerly awaiting the new GH5.

Ah, that's cool. What is/are your go-to cameras (for both of you individually) when you shoot (both photography and film)? I currently use Nikon D810 and Fujifilm X-Pro2. I love the way you guys work as a team (from what I can see in the videos), and the way you explain things, and of course, the cinematography!! :-) So keep it up! :-)

Thank you! Glad you like our videos! We are currently using the Fuji X-T2 a lot. Simply because of the nice colors and image quality. Other than that we like the new G85 and also sometimes use our dear trusted GH4, a true work horse :)

Thanks for investing the time to show us what this camera can do! I have a question about whether there is a way to lock the exposure during the video (even while using the onboard film simulations/color profiles). I noticed admittedly fleeting/subtle changes but the camera seems to be adjusting exposure on the fly in noticeable steps during a shot.

Sure, you can always go manual and dial in your exposure settings as preferred.

also, the exposure steps from the video are due to the auto aperture setting, which can also be turned off, btw. We missed that setting when filming at first.

Lets hope Fuji release firmware where the battery life is just as long as the battery life on the Nikon d5500, d500 and gh4
