    Thanks Matthieu this is the best produced, and most informative, review I have ever seen for a camera. Your earlier features on the camera inspired me to buy two of them including all the OIS lenses from 10-22 to 100-400 except for the 55-200. The camera simply amazes me. It is on par in quality to my NIKON 810 in image quality - though my daughter thinks better - and I have started using the video feature more on it than on my Panasonic G85. The battery grip solves a lot of problems for hand holding larger lenses and expanding the video features. B&H sold me mine for only $100 with the purchase of one of my cameras. I have sold off all my SONY gear since getting this camera. One more thing - I love photography - but this camera makes photography significantly more enjoyable

    Best review of the X-T2 out there! I had a short opportunity to use one last December and was astonished by the jolt of electric joy I had not felt since switching from a D40 to a D700, both from the feel in hand and the performance. It felt like I was holding my brain in my hand and anything I could think, I could create. Had to send it back because it turned out to be an international model. In the mean time, I came to my senses financially and decided to go with the X-T20. I have tried to love it for a week, but alas I am sending it back and ordering an X-T2. It is just too small and too many things are buried in the menus. The viewfinder is really important to me and the X-T20 does not work with my eye glasses. The implementation of the touch screen is annoying and it has the habit of resetting the iso to 200 if I change batteries in the middle of a shoot or remove the memory card. It is much nicer than the X-T10 was so if one's budget simply can't go higher, you can get the great image quality, just not the great handling of the X-T2. Thank you, Mathieu, for helping confirm my decision with this super review.

    I enjoyed the review. I love my X-T2. I sold ALL of my Nikon gear in order to get the awesome Fuji lenses to go with the X-T2. No regrets switching to Fuji. Photography is enjoyable again. I want to pick up the Fuji and shoot every chance I get.

    Thank you for a great review. Ive had mine from close to release date with the 10-24, 18-55 and 55-200. Your likes and minor dislikes are exactly like mine...very minor dislikes. Its a wonderful camera to use. I tried several other brands before I settled on the fuji for a few reasons. For me its a hobby so the feel of the camera was important and coming from a traditional slr background the setup with manual dials easily accessible without the need to take the camera away from your eye are a huge winner. Touchscreen, as nice as it would be is unnecessary for the taking of pictures. The lens lineup was a factor and the image quality. Its a camera that makes photography very enjoyable and to me that was what I was looking for. 4K vid was a bonus as i do very little video but its nice to have it.
    All modern cameras will take a great picture but thats up to the photograper using them and the fuji makes me want to go out and take pictures.

    Good job Mathieu Gasquet, we can feel how much serious work it has been to produce this video. I am a very happy XT2 user, upgrading from Lumix G7 (I still use it for video though) nothing professional but I confirm the ease of use. As an amateur, shooting experience is very important and makes a difference between taking the camera and use it than leaving it home :) Keep up the good work, I will follow you

    Thank You for this excellent and thorough review! Reviews like this are so helpful even years later when researching whether to buy a used model on eBay or Craigslist. You’ve helped convince me that $400 or $450 US for an X-T2 in good shape is probably a good camera for the money!

    At 11:52 the XT-1 images actual appears to have the better contrast at higher ISO. I have the XT-1 and very happy with it. I would not of course turn down an XT-2, but end IQ isn't all that different Apart from better AF the main differences seem to be ergonomics [the joystick, the extra tilt on the LCD and the slightly raised control buttons and better SD card door]

      Take a look at my comments above! I am sending back my X-T20 and ordering an X-T2, even though it means I will be making larger payments and only be able to afford one lens. I am a woman with medium sized hands and it feels like a toy tool to me. My thumb pad continually bumps the 4-way controller buttons opening various random things they are set to. You have to have longer fingernails than mine to use the top function button. Awesome image quality, though!

    This is a wonderful review, if I didn't have one already, I think I would buy it now...
    And it's one of the best looking cameras out there.
    I had to switch to a lighter system from my 6D + several great but very heavy full frame lenses. I considered m 4/3, Sony A7iii and Fuji X-T3. I need good low light performance, so I decided not to go m 4/3. Sony would be the logical choice, but I don't like to use it (I own the A7ii which I use for video, I can't really imagine taking pictures with it, I'm not sure why. I also have a couple of aps-c Sony cameras and I just use them for video, they don't feel like a camera); the viewfinder is tiny; everyone is getting one (I like to be different if possible); it was more expensive, and I like to use several speciality lenses, which would be very expensive and heavy.
    I then bought the X-T2 and an X-T20 for less than a new X-T3, and several wonderful lenses. I just find high iso performance a bit worse than my previous Canon system, but other than that I really like the system.

    Last night I did a walking inside and outside low light comparison with the Panasonic G85 and the 12 to 60 lens against the Fuji with the 10-22 - and the FUJI was as good ,or better, with stabilization and better at keeping focus. For silky smooth stabilization you need to get the ZHIYUN CRANE for both systems. By the way the FUJI has a bigger sensor which really makes a difference with photos. I was REALLY skeptical about the FUJI, but boy is it great- and their telephone support is quicker than Apple's.

  • @nitrowad

    There shouldn't be any difference between lossless and uncompressed RAW. Lossless is just compressed RAW, it's not a lossy format (like JPEG) that compresses the image sacrificing some information. Main difference should be that lossless compression takes more to process so it might save files to the card slower, and read them slower (plus more cpu operations = shorter battery life).

    One of the best and probably the most useful review I have seen so far about XT-2.
    Could you please answer me a couple of questions? I am an owner of an XT-2...
    1) Has your camera ever "frozen" and you had to get the battery out of camera since everything else did not work (like switching on and off the camera )?
    2)To your experience is 16-55 a good lense?
    3)Is lightroom a good program to use for fuji photos (raw+jpeg)?
    4)Which is the best way to whitebalance for video? and last
    5)Which is the best lense for video use according to your experience (18-55 cause OIS)?
    Thank you for your informational video and hope for your answers. Take care...

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      1) Not with the X-T2 but I has similar problems with other mirrorless cameras in the past. Does it happen often to you?
      2) It's an excellent lens especially when it comes to sharpness and AF.
      3) I used it all the time out of convenience mainly since I know the software so well. But if I want perfect details rendering, I turn to Iridient Developer.
      4) Depend on the light. AWB works well but if you have movements it's not recommended. Manual WB can require so WB shift to get rid of colour dominance. An optimal solution is the Custom WB where the camera measures the color temperature (you need a grey card to do that).
      5) OIS lenses are welcome. The 18-135mm does a good job because the OIS is excellent. It stabilised well and there isn't visible jittering. I haven't tried the 18-55mm for video.

      Thank you so much for answering! Yes it happened to me 3 times till now. I am not a heavy user of the camera. And after looking on the internet I found out that it happened to other people also. A professional (and heavy user of the camera) told me that it happened to him once, but not after putting the new firmware on camera. So two days ago I downloaded and put the firmware on camera (and also the latest firmware for 16-55 lense). Hope that fixes that! Because it is kind of scary to think that this might happen with the grip on. You then have to take off the grip and take the battery out...
      I honestly adore XT-2, it is really a joy to use, I just hope this is not something serious, since I paid a lot of money for that camera.
      Thank you again for your useful answers!

    how to reduce the on camera photo precessing time ?

  • @burnedprog
    @burnedprog 6 лет назад

    You praised the Olympus IBS, and failed to mention any stabilization in this review. Wondering your thoughts on how important stabilization is, and if you must resort to a tripod when using this camera. Your 4 or 6 second handheld long exposure shots on the Olympus are impressive.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  6 лет назад

      The X-T2 doesn't have IBIS so there isn't a lot to mention in this video. Yes I suppose I could have talk about the OIS of Fuji lenses but the video is long enough as it is :-)
      That being said, some lenses give you very good performance like the XF 18-135mm but it's not near what a camera like the E-M1 II can do (actually no other cameras can match the flagship Olympus right now).
      Whether it is important or not, I would say it depends. I do like IBIS a lot and it's probably my favourite feature of Olympus cameras. But when I shoot with Fujifilm cameras, I rarely find myself in trouble because I don't have IBIS. I would say it's not the Fuji system that is limiting, but the Olympus system that give you an extra tool that at times, is so good that you don't need a tripod.

    Hi Mathieu, thanks for the great review, i make low cost Real Estate Video Walkthrough and we currently use the Lumix G5 that is an old camera. And now in 2017 we want to use a better camera to improve the image quality of our Real Estate Videos and I am undecided between the Panasonic GH5 and the Fujifilm X-T2. Which camera do you think that is better between the new GH5 and the Fuji XT-2 for the type of videos that we do. One important factor to me is that i need to spend the less amount of time possible doing Color Correction, Is true that the video footage from the XT-2 require less time in the computer doing color correction than the GH5 video footage ?
    Sorry for my english I'm using google translator.
    Regards,

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Miguel, the colours of the X-T2 footage are very nice but you are limited when it comes to settings and parametres to configure the image in camera. Personally I would choose the GH5 for many reasons: stunning 4K quality, user friendly, tons of functionalities and you can get excellent images straight out of camera without the need to colour grade or using the V-log profile. Check my videos shot with the GH5 on my channel, there are three of them and they are all video samples straight out of camera.

    Very good video. Is it possible to track a moving subject across the frame without moving the camera in video recording?

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      In video mode you can choose single point or multi AF so the latter would be the best setting for that but it's not a proper 3d tracking. The camera will choose the point automatically based on the movement of the subject.

    Awesome review. I bought it with a 18-55 lens, but I was wondering about the differences between that lens and the f/2 primes of 23mm and 35mm. Would it be worth having both?

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад +1

      The advantage of the f2 primes is that they are really small and they're good lenses. And of course you would have the advantage of the faster aperture. Perhaps you don't need both of them, at least not at the beginning. Try to see what is the focal length you use the most on your 18-55.

    Hi Mathieu, I would like to buy a camera set up for video.
    I am wondering, how do you like the autofocus of xt2/xt20 with fuji xf35 f/1.4 for video?
    I am debating to buy this combo vs Sony 6500 and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 dc dn.
    Thank you so much for your help.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      The AF with the XF 35mm 1.4 is not bad but you won't always get smooth results and the AF motor of the lens can be noisy. it wouldn't be my first choice for video. The XF 35mm f2 should do better.
      The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is fast on the a6500 although slightly noisy as well.

  • @joeal-ca

    Thanks for this review Matthieu! Always so detailed. I'm currently an em5mkii shooter mostly because of its great IBIS system but have been impressed with Fujis new lineup. Especially as you said with the great auto-focus system in low light and usable high iso. Would you recommend one over the other?

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      X-T2 over E-M5 II: yes especially when it comes to C-AF, the X-T2 is clearly superior to the E-M5 II. High ISO is also better but in some cases the 5-axis stabilisation of the E-M5 II can compensate in low light.

    Awesome review, I’m just wondering what do you think about the X-T20? It is almost half the price of the X-T2 and almost 90% of the goodness, plus the touchscreen. I am going to buy my first Fuji at the end of the month. I have saved for the X-T2 but now that they released the X-T20 I am a bit flustered which one to get. Should I just get the X-T20 and purchase prime lenses with the remaining money? or get the X-T2 and take it as a future investment? Thanks.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад +2

      The X-T2 has a larger viewfinder, is weather sealed and has extra buttons/dials but the idea to spare money and invest in good prime lenses is an excellent idea in my opinion.

    • @emmanueltorres9366
      @emmanueltorres9366 7 лет назад

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      Unless you often shoot in the rain or in difficult weather conditions, I wouldn't worry too much about it. A few drops won't harm the camera and it's only a matter of being careful and cover it if the rain intensifies.

I wish they offered more AEB than three stops I tend to shoot 7 for real estate and also it would be nice if you could select the aspect ratio for framing I am forced to use 4:3 in my work and the GH3 does it and even my 6D. Also, I am searching for a smallish camera bag that can accommodate the X-T2 with the power booster grip attached. I lean toward a sling bag or smaller messenger style bag suitable for travel. Personally I prefer the ergonomics of the X-T2 and the higher number of physical controls. Image quality is very similar.
      The AF is better on the X-T30 especially with face and eye detection. The burst speed is faster with the electronic shutter but if you're not planning on shooting sports or birds in flight then it won't make a big difference.

      No, but the software you use can influence the result. Lightroom is usually the weakest with X-Trans, although their new Enhance Details mode is a good improvement. Iridient does the best job in my opinion, Capture One is also good.

      I've got good results with it when testing the camera, so I would say yes. The X-T3 is even better.

    Hy Mathieu, nice review.
    But please explain why not having Ibis, no Touchscreen, only 10 minutes 4k and 15 minutes in hd is no small drawback for you, compaired to all the other new Dslms on the market.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад +4

      I do mention that there is no touch screen and I talk about the 10 min limit in 4K in the Nitpicking section. However there is a solution for that which is the battery grip, an annoying solution I agree but it's there. I hope they will be able to to something about it with firmware updates.
      As for sensor stabilisation, yes it lacks that that and it would certainly be a nice addition. But the camera has other qualities :)

    • @charlesmann2042
      @charlesmann2042 7 лет назад +2

      Lord Helmchen I love IBIS and touch screen and the ability to record 4K for more than ten minutes. I have the battery grip - which is fantastic in many ways - and with it you can record for thirty minutes in 4K. As for IBIS most of Fuji's OIS lenses are so good that the stabilization for video is as good as with my Panasonic G85 that has built in IBIS and when I use some of their newer lenses that enhance it further. Finally the joystick touchscreen is really good as is the autofocus and I do not miss the touch screen. By the way the menu system is fantastic and easy and quick to navigate.

    • @dr.sommer5069
      @dr.sommer5069 7 лет назад

      Hi Charles + Mathieu. For me Ibis is huge and far superor than stabilised lenses. With the new Ibis systems and partly even combined systems of Ibis and stabilised lenses, these cameras are 2in1 systems.
      Great for hand held photography with primes and great for hand held video like a camcorder. And I think that is the future. With the Fujis you can forget hand held video. The XF 18-55 isnt able the manage that and there isnt another stabilised lens with normal focal range.
      For me, the Fuji is a great action camera and a great camera from the tripod, but there are much better overall cameras out there.
      In fact, with the Fuji System you will need one more camera for video, and thats imho not up to date in 2017.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад +2

      I think that sooner or later, Fuji will have to catch up with IBIS since the progress made by the other mirrorless brands (excluding Canon and Nikon). For now I like to think at it as a strength of the other systems and it's true that some cameras can do extraordinarily well (E-M1 II).
      I am not sure I understand why you need one more camera for video with the Fuji system?

    • @dr.sommer5069
      @dr.sommer5069 7 лет назад

      Because I need a something for hand held video und thats not possible with Fuji Mathieu.
      And as long as Fuji has the X-Trans Sensor System Ibis wont be possible.
      Pls read this Fuji rumors article

    BEWARE new Fuji camera. I got an X100F. I'm a B&W photographer. I've got an X-Pro2 and just traded the F for an X-T2 because the B&W on the F had a brown tint. I figured if I upgraded to an X-T2 I'd be happy since I have 4 primes anyway. Now I have green on the top and magenta on the bottom of straight lines in ACROS. Ask me if I'm PISSED. Be VERY careful if you buy a new one. Fujis are buried with backorders and they are cutting corners calibrating (which is the most time consuming part of the quality check.). What are the chanced of getting two duds back to back? I called what I heard was great customer service. They didn't seen too concerned, that I had to pay for shipping and it would be a month before I got it back. DO NOT BUY A NEW FUJI X-T2 or X100F unless the dealer gives you all the time you need to check it out thoroughly!!

    Mat, which camera would you feel more comfortable in extreme weather condition, I.e. snow, rain the XT-2 or the Olympus em-1 my ll

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons

      I think both can do very well. I used both under rain and they survived very well. Of course in this case having a weather sealed lens is important.

    I have briefly tried this camera & in many ways I was quite impressed. However the battery grip brings it back to DSLR territory & it's still doesn't offer stability for longer lenses like a DSLR ( I don't get on with lensmate thumb rest either). Perhaps it's asking price is another negative,the increase makes it less competitive adding the battery grip it's high end Nikon/ Canon levels & still not as good yet with Canon in particular making further strides with evf like overlays in an ovf. www.zeiss.com/milvus

  • @Stefan1968ful

    For me and my type of photography the Fuji x-T2 is no option. Why? Because Fuji does not offer a proper lineup to full frame. And that's an issue for me as I rely for my landscape and architecture work on brutal superwide angle lenses, e.g. the Voigtlander 10mm 5.6. Fuji GFX50s is nice but way too expensive. If mirrorless then only Sony can fulfill currently my demand with the Sony A6500 and Sony A7R2. Like it or not.

    • @Stefan1968ful
      @Stefan1968ful 7 лет назад

      Forgot to add: what I personally don't like on the X-T2 is the missing image stabilizer integrated into the camera body. It's simply a joy to use basically any lens (and I like using verrrrry old vintage lenses sometimes) on the Sony and it's stabilized automatically due to IBIS. And regarding lenses, well, try the Batis or Loxia line for the Sony and all the saying about high quality lenses from Fuji become really relative :)
