    RE: Wishclaw Talisman - Wishclaw Talisman saw play in Storm decks in Legacy for quite some time. The downside doesnt matter if your opponent doesn't get a turn.

    • @a.velderrain8849

      It also saw widespread competitive play in cEDH, where the downside of giving it to an opponent was actually upside in two situations: 1) if you played Dockside Extortionist, it gave you an extra treasure, and 2) you could make deals with opponents to give them the Talisman if they gave it back to you, giving you 2 tutors for only 4 mana.
      Also specific commanders like Breya can just sacrifice it before it gets handed off.

      "The downside doesn't matter if your opponent doesn't get a turn" actually rings very true in Yugioh. What's great with magic's mana system is how it informs about intent. It's also not just a cost, it paces the game as well. And because it's a budget, it also dictate tempo. And the color identity is the cherry on top, because it hints at your play style like a fighting stance.
    So much of the state of the game is inferred from the player's mana state or identity alone.

    Second Rite was even worse way back when because there was still mana burn, so your opponent could just intentionally lose life whenever they wanted.
    I remember some crackpot theorist argued that its existence made red decks better without even playing it because it would be technically correct for your opponents to occasionally burn themselves for one just to preclude the possibility of getting Second Rited but I don't think anyone ever actually did that in practice.

      @SilverRevolt7699 11 часов назад +5

    • @watchm4ker
      @watchm4ker 8 часов назад +2

      Magic has had the advantage that it has had substantial *depowerings* across its history, and modern cards tend to have limitations, costs, and restrictions older cards did not. Further, Magic has been fairly careful in adding new card types, with Planeswalkers being probably the only new card type to rise above the limited 'gimmick' status.
      Yugioh has added entirely new card types throughout its run, and the resulting power creep has been *breathtaking.* Further, each new mechanic can be seen as a response to the prior mechanic, to make them in many ways substantially better than what came before.
      Thus, Magic gets more powerful and more genetically useful the further you go back, while early Yugioh is practically a different game compared to modern play.

    34:54 : I think CGB should have corrected Cimo here. If casting Talisman resolves, the opponent has no window to interact with it if the owner wants to use it immediately. This would then put its effect on the stack (e.g. the opponent does not get priority after casting the card resolves). The opponent could then destroy it but that would make no sense, as that prevents him from getting it. And even if he does, Talisman's effect is already on the stack and would still resolve.

  • @Zologe
    @Zologe 8 часов назад

    I mean, one of the main reasons behind why I like Hare Apparent is that it plays like a storm-ish enabler in Baylen the Haymaker. The tokens draw you cards, net you mana, and you can win on the spot with stuff like Eerie Interlude, Impact Tremors, Warleader's Call, or stuff like Confusion in the Ranks. The card enables you to do some pretty messed up stuff in what's otherwise just another go wide, drop Craterhoof, and hit everyone with an army of 24/24 Trampling Rabbits.
    Once you have 5 hare apparents in play, you can start drawing cards and making mana. at 7, the Hare Apparents pay for themselves. Its arguably the more easily abused "You can play any of this" cards in the game, specifically because it makes *tokens*.

    I’ve played it about 15 times… and I think I’ve only lost twice? It’s definitely the best of the ‘play any number’ cards, because it solves the second main problem of the strategy. That being, these creatures don’t have evasion, so how do you get through? The answer with Hare is that you just go so wide that there’s enough bodies to just get past.
    It doesn’t solve the main issue, that being removal utterly curbs your snowball and can be an effective loss on turn 2/3 when you get your creature removed

    I've only encountered Hare Apparent once on arena. I board wiped and thought that was simply the end of it. But my opponent kept milling while my deck was being slow, and then they eventually used Awaken the Past to revive a bunch of Hare Apparents, a guy that gained them life every time a creature entered, and that bloomburrow bat that deals damage to the opponent everytime you gain life. I was disintegrated.

    13:42 So! The earliest card I can find that was printed with the Rabbit subtype is Zodiac Rabbit from Portal Three Kingdoms. However, Kezzerdrix is the earliest card that I can find whose creature type was erratad to include Rabbit, and that's from Tempest. I would argue that Zodiac Rabbit was still the first Rabbit to be printed, but I see the argument for Kezzerdrix.
    FYI the Scryfall search I used for this was t:rabbit not:reprint, and I then sorted by Release Date.

    There is one Yugioh card similar to Time Stop.
    Neko Mane King. Which is a Yugioh Monster (think creature) that when it is put from the owner's control to their graveyard during the opponent's turn it becomes the End Phase. It can be sent to the graveyard from the hand or from the deck and it activates. It's been a niche card in a few formats where there were decks that either destroyed their opponent's hand or when cards that would mill the deck were common.

    Hidetsugu's Second Rite was a 1-of in my Boros Sunforger deck in OG Ravnica Standard. Surprising how often it nuked someone from a comfortable 10. All star as a 1 of.

    I can see one scenario where people would try to play a Yugioh equivalent card to Hidetsugu's Second Rite. And of course, it's for an FTK. Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis can be feasibly Xyz summoned on turn 1 with its effect's conditions met, and it is the only card in the game (that I can find) that does not require battle, waiting, or for your opponent to do anything in particular in order to halve their LP. And from there, you'd just throw this card, deal an effective 4k effect damage and done.
    I doubt it'd be good, it'd be very gimmicky and bricky, but it'd be the kind of thing jokers and bots on Master Duel would likely attempt every so often to make people's lives miserable.

  • @ClubbingSealCub
    @ClubbingSealCub 7 часов назад

    Hidetsugu's second rite makes more sense when you consider Hidetsugu, the legendary creature - he has a tap ability that halves everyone's life totals. This card is there for flavor and it's perfect.
    Also, come on, Trix was a good deck for its time and it was basically cat pact in blue. Should've mentioned it.

    I am a huge Hidetsugu fan and even have a EDH deck with him as the commander. Saw this card and was hyped to try to build with it for the ultimate embarrassing 1 shot out of no where. The functionality even now still doesn't work. If you play a deck with pingers you might just burn someone past 10, if they have life gain they fuck the strat up with anything they do, in the deck I was trying to run it I comboed it with all the when you play a noncreature this does 1 etc. and I realized there might be a scenario where I could play second rite, but if they have like exactly 10, I accidently ping them for 1 on the cast and then they aren't at 10. ugh a miserable defeat of a deck build for standard. That being said it did birth a moderately hilarious Ojer Axonil burn deck thats kinda got some power behind it. But yeah RIP everyone now and before that tried to make Hidetsugu's second rite work.
