Oldschool runescape is an extremely indepth game. It's one of the longest lasting MMOs on the market and that has given players like me time to make mistake after mistake. In today's video, I cover the things I wish I knew before I ever started my journey.
This video will hopefully give you a sense of direction on your account and help you succeed in the game.

quests are best xp method
best not buy bonds but a few months of membership because gear cost money you could try and earn it under leveled under geared or you could focused on getting to said level that takes 20-180 hours of perfect hourly grind per skill
jagex has been known to ban players for using rune lite back when it was in a more gray area and nothing is stopping jagex from banning it again ultimately destroying your account so unless you keep upto date with everything jagex i recommend not using rune lite because jagex sure loves to act greedy at times

The reason why I like Old School instead of runescape 3 is because leveling up is like affection from a parent: having less of it makes it so that every time you get it, you feel a lot better.
for real ive been playing on and off since 06 when my cousin got me into it. every time i get a level i get so excited lol
People overlook the addictive formula in that way. Osrs has it down perfect. It's essentially all gambling and small periodic dopamine release. And furthermore, they lock the content behind the grind, so the content is the reward. Modern games make it so the content is what you grind to get the monetary reward. No. You need to make the reward the content. Thats how longevity and accomplishment is born
Biggest thing is:
Do stuff you have fun with, don't do grinds you don't enjoy at all.
If you have to do something that is annoying - do it a bit every day, just small sessions

I maxed almost 4 years ago. I was one of those kids who started out in f2p who couldn't really fathom getting past level 50 in a skill. I mean wow....50k xp till the next level? Who could possibly do that? I eventually realized that what I needed was distractions while playing such as watching youtube. Doing stuff like that definitely helps out the long hours.
Now, obviously I wouldn't recommend this to everyone. However if you happen to have a job that allows you to have your phone or maybe a tablet out but you can't really do intense stuff, you could try to get super big goals like say 200m cooking. I managed to get 200m cooking in 2021 almost exclusively at work. Of course not every job will let you do that and it took me about 3 months roughly of just cooking sharks but if you can afk at work that's a good goal to work for in my opinion.

What I like to tell people is, If you get 75 woodcutting you can chop magic trees and sell them to the ge for 1k each. I'm really bad at rs. I'm pretty good at woodcutting though.
Great video as always. I got outta my shell in this game by watching your vorkath guide and just jumping right into bossing and it’s totally changed my experience in a positive way. It felt so good to finally overcome nerves and do something new. Thanks again!

I wish someone warned me before I spent two days tricking the mage NPC into giving me 2k+ mind and 2k+ air runes that I couldn't take them off Tutorial Island, lol

You touched on gp efficiency efficencyscape but I think a lot of charm of doing quests in whatever order you want is a good thing too. Setting medium term goals for quests like getting barrows gloves or an unlock like lunar/ancients is a good way to not burn out doing that as well
Very true! I think a lot of new players wouldn’t burn out through the 1-40 slog if they just did a few simple quests then built into what you’re talking about with mid game goals like barrows gloves/ancient magics.
@@Darnic99 it's a good thing there's no correct way to play. I do see the benefits of skipping the early game grind too but watching flip go through osrs without guides in the early game is very charming and throws back to the real rs2 days.

Nice video, I was a goldfarmer back in 2016-2020 and I hated this game so much for the reason of making lots of xp and gp everyday for hours (logical feedback for doing something that don't like you or you aren't comfortable with), now 2 years later, I want to give a new try to the game because I know there is a lot of fun things that you can do in game. The way and dynamic of your video motivate me to do so. In my 4 years trip playing for real money, I have to say the most fun thing that you can do is joining a clan, if you are lucky enough you can meet nice people there, playing others game or even make lifetime friends! That happened to me, and the end, I thank this game for many things that gave me in the hard times. Now is my time to give back a bit of respectful play, thanks for your video, see you in Lumbridge!
Pretty much everyone’s goal is to max in this game and I truly believe base 70s,75s,80s and so on is very key
Appreciate the mindset point of view on this one, why not grind and have fun!
That last tip... trust me, the grind is way easier if you manage to socialize. It's scary, it's not for everyone, but when you have someone to talk with when you're doing things, whether bossing or just skilling, it becomes way easier to manage. Way more fun. One of the best memories I had was being in a discord call, killing some ice giants on white wolf mountain for slayer, and watching my character dance around half the mountain, occasionally taking shots at the giant. It was frustrating but funny, and way more manageable because my friends were listening to me talking about his dance around the mountain.
Great tips, I just started playing and I've been bitten HARD by the RuneScape bug. Can't wait to see all that RuneLight can do
The best runescape experience is that limbo state where ur not playing it, but kinda want to because of good RS youtube vids.

mentality is that i am hunting vorkath pet, working towards that cerberus pet hunt aswell and gg pet hunt, i do phantom muspah about 20-30 kills for pet (only one i need for greenlock) or afk mining amethyst towards 99 magic, then do some slayer whenever i feel like it and back to afk mining when im tired of game

Honestly, content exploration is such a good time, like I recently tried shades of morton for the first time recently, even though it's consider kinda dead content because I have never done it before I had a really good time and there's loads of content in the game where you can have a similar laugh just messing around and sometimes get some extra gp or exp just having fun instead of grinding something 😂
Good call on Runelite, I found that because I wanted the max draw distance possible.

I remember back in like 2009 I sold water vials from some random island in the GE for like 9x the price they were at the island stand. Some quest came out that required them and I made out rich af. Was broke for years and spent like 48 hours straight teleporting back and forth from the bank and that spot blasting nirvana the whole time lmao. From that point I had enough money to stay rich until my account got deleted good times

I mainly use the mobile app to manage my GE auctions while I'm away from home. Hop in for 5 minutes to refresh everything, then hop back off every hour or so.
You forgot the part about putting your moms credit card info in to buy gp helps so much

hes right when i came to osrs after playing alone for a year, i joined a clan best choice i ever made, got me more into pvm and skilling and we did pvp.

Totally true about maxing out ... I started back in 2017 as an and off player playing the OG runescape until the EOC patch came out. Sadly st the time I just wanted to "max" out so I chose the easiest method of doing this which was buying bonds and playing squeal of fortune in certain months just to get those bonus xp items. Problem is I was focused on maxing out that I eventually didn't care about the fun of the game anymore

Playing on a higher resolution with stretched mode will do that, he probably has a 4k monitor
Using a nez faceguard is better than using slayer helmet on task for vorki btw.

try to complete all easy diaries you will learn a lot about the game.

Your gains grow exponentially. You just started so you can't expect to make gp early on focus on leveling skills to mid game (lvl 80-92ish) then you'll start opening up various ways to make gp.

if you are a member start training slayer. it will get your combat stats up at the same time and make gp. you wont make much at first but even by the time you get your slayer in the 60's you will have ~base 70 combat stats and be making multiple 100k per task!

That optimal quest guide can you dump to the road side. This game is better when you dont know the most "efficient" road and make your own journey.
Sure but you can also save lots of early game time by following it. Why train for 20 hours when 2 hours of questing can do the same? I agree though that the end/mid game should be your own journey and not worry about efficiency.
using the wiki, and runelite to get the answer for everything, Is it not like doing crosswords with the answers in front of you or just copying someone elses game? i thought runlight was more a tool for those that have done it all before and just wish to cut corners or make it easy. (opinion)
Not really, I get your point but OSRS is HUGE. You can play for 10 years and not get it all down. I’d recommend the wiki to get any answers for questions so you’re not spending lots of time on things that could be figured out quick. The game is a grind even if you know what to do.
I mean, the fun part is figuring it out.
Something I want to say about the optimal quest guide, though, is that it recommends you spend basically ALL of your choosable skill rewards on Slayer. I do NOT recommend that. Slayer levels pretty slow, sure, but you can level that along with cb stats anyway, and you're going to regret doing that later on because one quest in particular, Song of the Elves, has a HUGE construction and herblore requirement of 70 each, both of which are skills that require a large gp investment to level (unless you want to level Herblore at a snail's pace). Spend some xp rewards on con or herblore.
I've been playing since 2008. off and on since 2010. 3 account between then and now. I have never had a lvl 99. I just started playing again and I'm getting back to where i left of Combat lvl 87 and skills averaging 70. I have always felt like I'm not as skilled as 70% of the community. i just do my quest, fight the monsters I can, stay out of the wilderness and just play. I want to get into bigger bosses but I'm terrified of getting PVP'd lmao. Hopefully I'll get there eventually but I know I'm not as determined as others to be great at the game.

The forums, discords, there’s a recruiting world. They are kinda hidden I agree, they could do a better job of letting players advertise their clans.

Only advice for starting for 2023 is beware of the grind 😂😂😂 my accounts now 9 years old and still not maxed
I could never max an account i maxxed all comabt with exception to prayer i just am not a fan of skilling
One thing to take away from all this..

I recently started an alt, due to burnout on my Iron. Stumbled across this while looking for fun ideas for that alt.
Solid video that’ll help a ton on new players to the game. Love that you mentioned runelite so prominently … but I feel like making sure new players get RL from the correct site should’ve been stressed. How to download it properly & avoid the fake sites should’ve been mentioned.
Oh, and quest helper / plugins in general. Gotta use runelite to its full potential.

I stopped at medieval clicking simulator. It kind of rang too true.
That said, the ad taking such a significant portion of the video to reach 10 minutes is definitely a sour spot.

I was grinding for 3 nights in a row to get to level 35 in each combat stat and some in cooking and woodcutting, only to learn that I could have done one quest and gotten past those.
Nah man sounds like you levelled up at lumby cows and sustained yourself with your own fires and the meat drops.
My friend that is the renaissance option. The choice move. It’s what I’ll do should I ever start a new acc.
