- It’s been a long time, maybe 8 years in fact, since I last cast a line on this lovely and remote mountain water. That said I had a fair idea of what to expect and even bought a new travel rod and a new e-mountain bike to help with the long ride in. It was a gorgeous day and even the midgies stayed away! Join me and see how I got on. Bliss!

That's quite a trek. just as well you got yourself one of them fancy dancey e-bikes. Glad that you managed to hook into something. As nice as the lochan is, you don't want to go all that way for nothing.
The adders are an absolute nuisance out in the sticks, A few years back a friend and I were taking our bikes for a walk when we came to a stane dyke we had to climb over. He went first, but just as he approached I saw an adder basking and warned him, but it was too late. He put his hand down right next to it and it bit him. He got such a fright that he jumped up in the air, saw the snake and slapped it. So it bit him again. I almost wet myself laughing. His hand swoll up like a big monkey paw and he started getting sick and dizzy. i was in hysterics. Luckily we weren't too far from a doctors and we got him medical attention, but even the nurses were laughing at him.
Yes they say adder bites can be pretty painful for sure. I've come close to standing on one more than once. Some big ones up there.
The Shakespeare Agility series are great value for money rods...... what fantastic scenery.
I was surprised just how good the rod is! Thanks for your comment. 😊
Enjoyed that !
Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed it! 😊😊
What a spot Fred! Keep it to yourself....not many places like this left....thanks for sharing your adventure 👍
It's always difficult to get the balance right between sharing your experiences with like minded people and not pressurising the place. Never seen anyone else up there. 😊😊
What a beautiful place ❤fantastic fishing and filming 👍🏻 and getting there on your mountain bike!!! Brilliant
Thank you. 😊
Good going on a bright almost flat calm day. !
PS......what weight line ?
Yes, the sun is seldom the loch fishers friend! 😊😊
#5 weight on that 7 pc travel rod. @@2msvalkyrie529 👍👍
Stunning weather and place Fred similar to my area down in the Galloway forest 🎣👍
It's a nice place to spend a few hours and the bike makes all the difference. 😊
Beautiful scenery …what an awesome day to be on the water …thanks for sharing

What a stunning place to fish great video as always Fred, that first fish had some lovely red dots very vibrant and healthy looking. Tight Lines
Yes the loch is quite clear and fertile and the fish in good condition.👍
Bike, hike and cast is hard to beat 😊🙌
Especially if the return journey is downhill! 😎
Great video, they don’t half hit your fly in that wee loch , them bikes seem to be all the rage these days great value when you can get to places like that .👍
The e-bike has been a revelation for sure. A great boost to the old weary legs. 😁
What a stunning spot Fred! Wise not to advertise its location...... Those ebikes are a game changer for 6 decade old legs I've found! ...... Fish on 🎣
Defiantly a great invention for we seniors! 😁
Very nice Fred, what a stunning place.
Those e bikes don't aft shift judging by your intro😀
Turbo legs Chris. It is a lovely spot, the eagles did not show today though. 😅
Just watched your video Fred, what an idyllic way to spend a day
Thanks Graeme! 🙂
John (not Jenny) here. I believe I know this loch. I first fished it, and the river below, with my father and grandfather 60 years ago. If I'm not mistaken then you can check this out if the bench in the village car park (if it's still there) is dedicated to my father, Robert McDougall Bruce. In any event, what a glorious day. Now living down south I miss this glen, terribly. ATB.
What a fantastic place to fish and a great video. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks and please keep them coming .
Thanks very kind of you Geoff, thank you for commenting. 😊😊
Another good video buddy look forward to the next 1
Many thanks for your comment. 😊
Lovely place! I wish I could fish a Lake like that.
Yes I am lucky to have places like that so close by. 😊
Thanks for taking me along again. Beautiful. Really enjoyed the ride as well as the fishing. I’ve got to get over there to fish someday. Shoot, one of my ancestors was murdered while fishing by his place Stalker Castle so fishing has been in the blood for centuries. Anyway, keep up the good work. ATB.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your comment. 😊

The e-bike is great for an auld man like me Allan. 😆

Yes, keeping active is the way to go! 😊
well worth the trip for that fish
It was, it's always nice to get a fish or two. Thanks for your comment. 😊
nice video lovely scenery , lets have some more please .
Thanks for your kind comment. 😊
@@wildfisher you are welcome.
I just got the shakespeae oracle 2 exp same length and weight, I think shakespeare is great for the money. I really want to play the guessing game and shout out names of the lochs I think it could be, you need to keep your spots a secret though.
It's a good rod for the money for sure. So good I have since bought the 9 foot 6, #8 weight for the pike fly fishing. You are right, best not to broadcast the names of hill lochs. 👍
@@wildfisher I went pike fishing as a child never been into it, I never tried flyfishing for them though.
@@GusExplores It's been years since I fly fished for them, but using surface poppers it can be exciting fishing.
Would like to try something like this
You should do it's great! 😊
Where do I get a permit and do you have directions?
Very enjoyable, interesting commentary, lovely scenery. Well done 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Lovely spot Fred and a tough day to get fish, I think you did well to get the two you did get. With the electric bike it has to be well worth heading up there a few times if only because it seems to be a really nice spot. Do you think some big daddy longlegs would provided entertainment later in the year?
I think so Philip, essentially that's what an ElkZilla is, big tan coloured fly with rubber legs. 😁
@@wildfisher Yes I hadn't thought of it that way. If you get a bit of a wave then it looks like the wet fly would fish OK in there on a floater.
What a lovely place to fish. Thinking of an e mountain bike myself, which one did you decide upon if you don’t mind me asking.
I took a while to decide and eventually bought a Carrera Vengeance Electric Mountain Bike 2.0 from Halfords Cost £1100. Only issue is it's heavy at 23KG, but I am impressed with it.
Hi there, I love your videos and wondered which angling club (or shop) I can get a day permit for your local river from? Would love to visit and I’m not too far away from Arbroath but can’t seem to find a club website or anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Permits are from Angus Country Sports in Arbroath. anguscountrysports.com/
@@wildfisher Perfect! I thought that might be the case. All the best!
Evening gents 😁how you finding the ebike ? Would you recommend it ?
Love it. It took me ages to take the plunge. I would not hesitate if I were you. 😊
Lovely video. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Interesting about the e-bike. What are the fees like for fishing a loch like that in Scotland? If I were visiting as a tourist - is it enough to just have a general recreational fishing ticket or would I also need to buy a ticket for the specific loch?
There is no general recreational fishing ticket or fishing licence in Scotland. Permission has to be sought from the holder of the fishing rights which is most often the land owner or perhaps an angling club. The fees will depend on the owner.
Also meant to say get yourself a copy of this. Slightly out of date now, but the basic info. is sound and vast.

The Welsh way is to cast and walk.....I'm surprised you didn't move around much. You seem to be in the same area for most of the video. Brownies not like rainbows and generally stay put in their little areas
I was moving around but yes the edits make it look like I was in just one or two areas. Remember too that it was mostly flat calm and too much moving means more disturbance and spooked fish. I find step and cast is better when there is a good ripple or wave. 😊
That loch looks to be on the west coast, but is it?
Not n the west cast, but t does have that character. 😊
