Performing observational research in older adults

  • Observational research is frequently underestimated. Clinical trial generally underrepresent older adults which can lead to poor external validity of these trials. Although observational data have its limitations such as confounding by indication, they have many advantages. In this video, I will discuss how we could improve the evidence base for older adults (in this example with cancer) by using observational data, for example by developing prediction models or using instrumental variable analyses.
    About me:
    I am a registered clinical epidemiologist and working as a fellow in medical oncology in the Netherlands. I have published over 50 manuscripts and have received several large research grants. I am particularly interested in research in geriatric oncology and am a an active member of the International Society for Geriatric Oncology.

    Absolutely agree, we need to conduct more observational research in older adults with cancer, thank you Nienke for this excellent presentation on this important topic!!
