My stomach sank when you spoke about the family who thought this show would be appropriate. Those poor, poor children.
reminds me of parents who put Sausage Party on for their kids
Shows have always had age disclaimers
It is assumed that the parent does homework (ie. Looking at a single logo/number/etc plastered on the show they're about the watch) before sitting down the sofa with the kiddos, anything that happens after is on them
I’m 12 and my family and I decided to watch this also I’m a huge fallout fan so idc about the blood or the bed scene from episode one me and my dad love fallout and the show is great so far
@@WILMANGO681 well I played fallout 3 when I was 12 sooo....💀
I watched with my Ma she liked the time period type pre-war segments, hated the gore and violence she said kids would be scared, and said they shouldn't watch it. This coming from my Ma who laughs during graphics scenes in Wolf Creek and tends to watch crime and murder mysteries. Odd I know. I am as old as the Fallout franchise and I enjoyed it a lot though.
I love how Dogmeat just roams the entire show, constantly switching from companion to companion. The only character without a quest of his own, just chillin with whoever will hang till he gets bored and dips.
i know this is entirely unimportant, but i've seen enough people talking about the dog as if it's actually "Dogmeat", and it's bugging me. the dog in the series is credited as "CX404". it is only referred to as "Dogmeat" once, by the ghoul, and in that instance i've been operating under the assumption that he was just calling it "dog meat" as a sort of nickname (while also being an easter egg for fans) since he doesn't know the dog's actual name, if it has one at all. i even saw someone in the comments of another video vehemently defending the claim that it's THE "Dogmeat" because "it's credited in the show as Dogmeat", but it very clearly is not. anyway, like i said, wholly unimportant, but i tend to get stuck on little shit like this all the time so feel free to ignore me lol
@@alefnull Has Dogmeat ever really been the dogs name tho? Hell, in Fallout 4 if you miss a single piece of dialogue he's referred to as "Dog" for the rest of the game. It is a nickname, CX404 is what his original name was, and then the Ghoul gave him the nickname of Dogmeat, both work IMO. It doesn't need to be the same dog to have the same nickname, I've always assumed every Dogmeat is a different dog, there is no "THE dogmeat", it's just a coincidentally common nickname for dogs in the fallout world.
@@LiilYogurt my point is just that there has in fact been a fair number of people since the show aired legitimately operating under the impression that the dog in the show IS the same "Dogmeat" from previous games. you and i agree in that it doesn't have to be the actual same dog to have the same nickname. i'm simply ranting about people actively saying it IS the same dog and saying so with confidence lol.
@@alefnull damn idk how people can possibly think that lmao. Dogmeat is literally a different breed of dog in every game including the show (he’s been an Australian cattle dog in 1, Blue Heeler in 3, German Shepherd in 4 and Belgian Malinois in the show), how people can think it’s the same dog astounds me. The only time it’s been the same dog is Fallout 1 & 2
Edit: holon, don’t we literally see CX404 as a baby in the show??? How can people possibly think it’s the same dog, Dogmeat from 4 woulda been like 15 years old by the time the show started lmao. Some people just don’t use their brain ig
@@LiilYogurt because people lack the ability to pay attention to details.
One thing I've not heard anyone mention during reviews is the music. I know it's basically the same as the radios in the fallout games, but damn, the music throughout the whole show is FIRE!
Pus they had the theme kick in one of the later episodes. They did a great job.
I loved "Orange coloured sky" in the first episode, good forshadowing😅
Bro when they showed the NCR flag in the show and the new Vegas theme started playing. I was SHOOK, all the new Vegas memories I had came flushing back and immediately I bought it again for my PC and am now on my, I dunno. Hundredth playthrough.
@@fullsendabeerforme2988 I had to OG release on the 360. That glitched out mess completely screwed me at about 180 hours in, and I haven't been able to seriously get back into it. I bought it on steam for like $5 and plan to finish it one day.
every song in the show was so perfectly timed, they did a great job with the score
That Leonardo DiCaprio *pointing* meme every 5 minutes of the series
They always get you consoomers hooked on their slop with the keyjangling and memberberries
@@shekelman2265 Brain rot. It's not their fault.
My brother-in-law has never played a video game in his life and 15 minutes into the show he was texting everyone in the family how great it is. He finished it in two days and can't wait for S2. My wife has seen me play the game, but knows nothing of it, really, and she loved it. I did not think they could tread the line between hardcore fan service and broadly appealing, but they pulled it off.
I love how authentic the show felt to the idea of fallout and the players experience.
The fact that you can tell it was made by people who know Fallout and its lore.
And even when they take their own spin on certain lore, they do it in a believable way, like with the idea that the war started because a bunch of rich douches felt it would be more profitable.
I love the jab that the writers took at sidequests "thus will always get distracted with other bullshit"
3:48, The show didn't retcon anything from fallout new vegas.
Shady Sands got nuked in 2277 and the NCR is basically dead when in New Vegas Shady Sands was still the capital in 2281 and the NCR was still a major civilization in most endings. They most certainly did reconsider, which is why I consider the show noncannon. Still love it though.
@@shanemcguire7333 No, the timeline says that the fall of Shady Sands began in 2277, not that it fall in 2277, even Todd Howard said in an interview that Shady Sands exploded after the events of Fallout New Vegas.
@PowerfulChain47 that doesn't make sense
@@shanemcguire7333 why?
@@shanemcguire7333the fall of shady sands =/= shady sands getting nuked. These are spereate events
I genuinely can’t wait for Season 2 of this. The New Vegas teaser at the end, the NCR vs Brotherhood, and the fact that you can tell that like the New Vegas branch of the brotherhood, this brotherhood is just a bunch of tech-saavy a-holes. Lucy is an honestly really well created character, and while she kind of gets annoying at times (like when she came out of the SDM all mad and now a very cool character-y and then 5 minutes later shes a naive vaulty again), shes honestly the best representation of a closeted vault dweller meeting the wasteland you could possibly get outside of the games. Maximus’ character is unlike anything I’ve seen before in a major protagonist. Most modern media protrays protagonists as usually perfect, usually emo, or usually unimportant if theres another main character. Maximus instead being a major protagonist with a strong will but a weak mind that falls into his habit of lying was a very interesting trait to see considering how little I’ve seen it be used in the shows I usually watch. The Ghoul is self explanatory. He’s just that good.
The use of classical music during some of the fight scenes honestly amplified the fights more than normal battle music probably would. I mean come on, you cannot tell me that “I don’t want to see tomorrow” is no better than some cliche battle music for the NCR / Brotherhood fight. All in all, this season blew me away, especially with all the references to external fallout content. Can’t wait to see more!
this show is one of the best adaptations I've seen in recent times, hella excited for season 2
Out of place sex stuff? Has bro ever played Fallout 2?
I have watched the show 3 times throuh and i still keep finding more things i missed.
This and Arcane are the gold standard for video game adaptations imo. Unbelievably good. So authentic to the games.
The problem with adaptations like The Last of Us is, even though it was very well made and the performances were amazing, was that the game was already all that but more. Super story driven games like that and Uncharted are probably not the ideal games to adapt since they're already movies albeit way more immersive.
But Fallout and Arcane uses the game to their strengths. The incredibly rich worlds, the vibe of it all, the aesthetics... all packaged into an original story set in that world filled with good writing that knows and respects the source material is what these companies should strive towards. Not a 1:1 copy, not reference overload, not revisionist history.
"Good writing" lmfao you're either actually braindead or joking.
my favorite scenes are when dogmeat is clearly in a serious situation but its all acting so he just looks like hes having the time of his life. love that for him what a great actor

@@gumfuck28 the ghoul only calls it dogmeat because he doesn't know the dog's actual name (or if it even has one). he's using "dogmeat" as a nickname, and it's more of just an easter egg for fans. in the show, the dog is literally credited as CX404 in every episode it appears in.
The show does not retcon New vegas.
Shady Sands exploded after the game took place.
The show is sooo good. One of my fav shows this year
The Fall of Shady Sands 277 -> 💥 does not mean that a nuke was dropped in 2277, it means that shady sands fell THEN some years later a nuke was dropped
There is problem here buddy if you play the classic games you will know that the NCR are not just one city you have Vault City and San Francisco led by Chinese soldiers who settled there and more but now they're magically all gone
@@TheMattsemBut the show never mentions or talks about the state of these cities, so why do they matter in this topic? For all we know, the NCR is doing well in other areas outside of LA, the show also pointed to Shady Sands being the first capital, meaning it recognizes the existence of these other cities, it never said “Fall of the NCR”
@@prinzdenaxadding onto this "fall" is a very specific word they used becasuse it can mean many things, like the literal fall or maybe the start of a decline, same as the fall of the roman empire
@@TheMattsemcopium is one hell of a thing
@@TheMattsem also, given the amount of time that has passed between the "classic games" and the tv series any amount of things could have happened with no magic being required. it makes perfect sense that these things wouldn't be addressed in the show if it wasn't relevant to what was happening in the show. again, magic completely unnecessary! you have a great day.🙂
i just watched a guy call the show woke bc the ghouls wife was black and anyone who disagreed was a reddit mod 🗿
That's really just their takeaway ngl if you replace everyone as white or as a man they'd praise it to the balls bc finally they can insert themself as a character
It struck me as odd that they'd have an interracial couple in 1950's hollywood, but I liked the chemistry between the actors so I just went with it. =)

But that doesn't change the fact that the biggest flaw of the show isn't being ''woke'' it's them retconning a lot of shit bc of todd's rage/hate boner for obsidian and the older fallout games

this show made me feel things i havent felt in a long time for a show, absolutely incredible. like a diamond in the rust.
Even after the failure of Starfield, Todd Howard still found a way to win.
i would love to see a season 2 and a spin off where we hear about different stories and perceptions of different types of characters
I watched this with my wife and she’s never played any fallout. But she loved it! And now wants to play the game because of the show. We both can’t wait for season 2!!
I absolutely loved the show, even with a few of the continuity errors I saw within the show itself. Don't want to bring them up as they have to do with spoilers and I feel it's still to soon to get into. Appreciate your take and agree with pretty much everything you said!
I think a key factor to the show's impressiveness and success is the director/main producer, Jonathan Nolan. He's a long time fan of the series and likes to do his research on his various projects. Also, he is LITERALLY Christopher Nolan's brother, and has been involved in many of his brother's most successful films. This Fallout series really was in good hands from the very beginning!
Not to mention he also wrote and created Westworld, so he really was the best guy for the job!
Don't forget about all the other showrunners and creatives involved too. Especially Graham Wagner, (besides seemingly being one of the head writers) he's talked about being a big fan of the games since the first one, and it's clear in the writing that he (and maybe others) have played all the games. And Jonathon Nolan definitely did a great job setting the tone.

The TODDler killed the NCR off screen. There should have had the show glitch out a few times.
New Vegas Elitists are seething right now lol
They didnt retcon any of fallout new vegas
I'm so happy you liked the show. Shit was cash money
Thank you Kev, thank you. 👏
The ghoul have a vats build
It's made by Christopher Nolan's brother (who co_wrote several of his films) and a ton of people who played the games. Having good filmmakers who are actual fans is the key.
I've seen a lot of folks talk about the show, but for some reason, it's Kev's opinion I find myself appreciating the most.
This show was an absolute blast, pun intended. One thing I will say, I don't think they retconned super important things, maybe only a few minor things like shady sands location. I think what people think is retconning, is just people over thinking things along with the show writers leaving things intentionally vague because season 2 isn't written.
In the Board we see the Fall of Shady sands and then the nuke.
For all we know, the nuke did not fall in 2277. With some math regarding their ages, it mightve fallen 1 or 2 yeasr after NV
@@Skullbrothers Yep, lots of people are taking it as that being the destruction date. But often when someone says "the fall of (location)" it usually refers to a steep political or economic decline. The bomb could've been dropped later. And New Vegas definitely showed the NCR having just as many flaws as they did strengths.
Indeed, it does say "the fall of shady sands" and then there is an arrow pointing at the explosion insinuating the nuke being dropped later down the line @@shadowtrooper3764
The dust has settled, the 'retcons' have been clarified and yeah, this is a very good show. There are still points of minor lore contention (ghouls, the Prydwen), some odd issues with the series writing (the WEIRD sex talk between Lucy and Max. WTF was that? haha), some plot holes (HOW the hell did they overcome and imprison the Raiders in vault 33?). Not a perfect show by any means but a damn good interpretation of the Fallout Universe.
The weird sex talk was a really good scene imo cuz its meant to show how sheltered the two of them are- Maximus in his BoS cult, and Lucy in her vault. Its meant to give you secondhand embarassment. The scene worked lol
I need to see a veteran NCR
I am holding out for a GREAT mass effect adaptation
We can all hope

one of the best things on this show no one is talking about... is the music! it feels so unique and fits the tone SO SO well, they really shocked me with how well they did it, top tier show, already watched it through 2 times only 6 days after it's release
(EDIT) i don't mean the 50's esc music, though that is perfect too, the character musics, like the ghouls theme or Maximus when the brotherhood comes up, my goodness, it's so immersive
4:16 did you know that people have never seen an adaptation or actual axolotl or even had enough of an idea to tell that that there is a mutated axolotl. No I’ve know of their existence awhile, I did not learn it through ‘minecraft.’
I knew this show is gonna be good when I see Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy credited as Directors and Producers in the trailer. I was expecting a good Fallout show, but this is definitely a good Nolan show as well. The twist, the two timeline storytelling and the seamless editing feels like I’m watching a good season of Westworld.
I think what makes a tv show adaptation of a game good is if you can actually see it as its own game
Just like bungie halo… these people cared about what they wanted to make, did what they loved and shared it to people of similar interests. It wasn’t some greedy cash grab or rage watch bait… it was perfection, and still is. I’m gonna continue to ignore “hAl0 duh s3RiEs”
Me too! I watched it TWICE!!!!
Fallout 76 is good now too

Totally agree it's a great show and everything is accurate to the game and that cult scene was weird and kind of pointless
So what exactly did they retcon from New Vegas?
New Vegas isn't canon anymore cause one scene depicts a black board with the writing: shady sands fall 2277. Meaning most likely that NCR doesn't exist in new Vegas time and a lot of the story isn't canon anymore.

I always set my standards really high, but since season 2 will take place in New Vegas, I just want an appearance of The Courier and make him a more skilled cowboy that he even out matches The Ghoul
They set the show 15 years after the F:NV. That's a lot of years. The Courier probably would be mentioned as a historical figure, but really should be dead and not be shown or be the part of the story whatsoever. That would be a terrible idea script wise and hopefully creators recognized that while planning second season. We already have three established characters and three antagonist with possiblity of fourth being Barb, Ghouls ex-wife. That's plenty.
@Szeptun Yeah, if there were to be an appearance of The Courier, it should be as a tale told by a local to Lucy and the ghoul, and how he changed New Vegas forever

Whoa I didn’t expect this. It’s really cool to hear your thoughts on the show. Yeah I agree the show is good. It’s an 8/10 for me. The only things I didn’t like was some of the unnecessary crude humor, the unnecessary nudity, & one of the episodes gets a bit too gruesome & weird. I know, I know Fallout isn’t exactly “family friendly” but this one scene from the show was a bit too dark. Also the best parts in my opinion was the pre-war flashbacks. So cool man.
Dude that shits been in Fallout sense the first game, when it was Isometric.
@@aaronlaughter6471 I was talking about some of the bizarre marvel humor scenes. It just felt off. The voyeurism in the first episode, and the cult scene was unnecessary. The Fallout games didn’t show anything like that in the games(including the other Bethesda titles). The only thing Bethesda did was just have the romance companion make a comment on the night. And the brutal scene I’m talking about, is the lab in vault 4. The video tape Lucy saw. I know other vaults have their dark origins, but this one felt really unnecessary.
