This is awesome! I had no idea you could manipulate how the Mmm is made. I really like to warm up by starting on Mmm and then opening up to vowels throughout my range, and this immediately made the Mmm and the vowels more clear and resonant! Thanks a bunch :)
Hey what's up Tricia thx for this video here it's really amazing how this should help me I have been trying to find more warm up exercises for myself with my vocal teacher at rock and roll University
Thanks for "decompressing" my "MMM," Tricia. You caught me curling my tongue on the "oo." I hadn't been aware of that before. Does that curling adversely affect the vowel formation? (I'm happy to hear of your upcoming concert!)
You are so welcome! The curling of your tongue could influence vowel formation... if you record yourself and feel your diction is good then not to worry. For me, the curling of the tongue could be an indicator of muscle engagement when perhaps those muscles could be more relaxed. I am always wanting the ideal "blobby" relaxed tongue for my vowels. When I see "taco tongue" or a divet in my tongue it's a flag that has me check for unnecessary tongue tension. It's a work in progress as we share the beautiful melodies and lyrics of our songs :) I am excited about my birthday concert too! Thank you! It will be fun!
I love ng too :) Sometimes people feel some tongue tension with an ng in the upper range. The mmmmm can be a nice alternative. If you move from an /u/ with a relaxed jaw the jaw can actually stay relaxed in the mmmmm. the jaw doesn't need to move.
M is a nasal consonant... so it is nasal. The soft palate can't lift when you sing a nasal consonant... but starting with the /u/ vowel gives you and nice open place to start from which sets the /m/ up nicely to resonant clearly and without pressure.
I absolutely love this warm up! This really helps me stay lifted. The ringing is such a nice sensation too! Thank you.
Great! You are so welcome :)
Wow! That's amazing, thanks!
thx Tricia:) such wonderful lessons from you ..gratitude

I prefer ngngngng because I want to relax my jaw. But I think mmmmm makes my pharynx wider.

Can you tell me that is it nasal also or just lift the soft plalate because when I am doing this mmm I feel nasal resonance
