Wow, I'm a little late to the party here, but I'm so glad you made this video available to the world. This is one of the most helpful tips I've encountered in my brief singing journey so far.
thank you so much 4 explaining this, your right on what you say.. usually to get more power i was doing more nasal with ñi.. nei, and sounded more nasal but i had some tension with the a E5, F5 I had to be very concentrate, but because this excersise automatically will develope higher notes, thank u❤❤
You are great teacher, easy to understand. I had dificulty understand this practice until i found your video. It really help me by miles stone. Thank you so much. Instant sub and like.
Thank you, this is a terrific video, really helpful. I just didn't understand before listening to it what my singing teacher wanted me to do. Now I know how to move forward. thanks again
WOW WOW ….NGGG…..AHMAZIng video!!!! This is one of the most incredible “ah huh” type videos ever ! I can’t believe how much information you have managed to excellently express is a way that is just like “OMG…WOW…YEEAA!!! Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in sharing so much wisdom. Xxx
Yes, thank you so much!🙏 My problem was after I found my mix or singing behind the mask, the next day or so I’d forget the placement and where I was singing from. With this exercise, I feel like it can help me remember where I need to be. Thank you so much🙏Happy Singing❤️
you are really, really good, and i want to thank you so very much for this great content. i found you through searching the 'sovt atraw' technique - you have the best vid on that i've found (no need to go further). i've now viewed both of your 'ng' vids. i am very sure i am going to enjoy a good number of your videos and learn a lot from you. thank you! you don't strike me as a youtube hypester, but i think you deserve a lot more views and subscribers. when i want to learn things i really search around until i find the best. thank you for this effort that you make for the betterment of the music community. . .
I always had struggled with this and I never experienced with throat tension because I never knew about this thank you for helping me to understand the basics
Tricia you are really teaching the lessons anything you teach I mean your explanation are well understanding thank you for the lesson today ( ng sound )🍷🍷🍷🍷🌹🌹🌹🌹
I like this clear, complete & practical summary on mask resonance . Please keep this video here for long time so we may come back often to review & practise. Great help, thank you so much Tricia!
Using the ng has been baffling for me, i kept using the ng while still experiencing alot of throat action. Using the yawn seems like a healthier addition to add up. Additionally, I think that thinking of a lifted sound should also be helpful. The video is so informative. Thank you so much
These are GREAT EXPLANATIONS on using the “ng” sound in a practical well explained way! I recently found your previous “ng” video and am finding it very helpful. Thanks so much for this new video! Using the “ng” sound and then slightly dropping the tongue to get into a vowel is very helpful.Thank you for doing this!
Took me years before I realised I was doing more of a 'ing' from not using enough nasal placement, so gaining nothing from the Choir warm up we did. It was only when someone told me to imagine you have a cold and how you speak with a blocked nose that I finally got it! - Great explanation btw - probably the best on youtube.?
Thanks, Steve, for watching! You are right... it is like the stuffed nose feeling :) Sometimes I think that is the hardest thing about singing is that we all have different reference points for the sensations that we are making. So glad you discovered how to make the ng work for you. All the best with your singing.
Love this! I combined it with singing over a candle flame and it really didn’t move - first time ever! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 many thanks. Just one question; is there a way to make that switch from ng to the vowel even more smooth? The quality of the sounds differ so much, and I’m looking for a more gradual change.
Menno, this is great! Awesome job combining the two exercises! For me, to make the ng to vowel more smooth, I would go more slowly, move the tongue less and start with a more quiet, pianissimo, tone. Too much air can make the transition abrupt. Let me know if these ideas work. Have fun!
So glad you are finding them helpful. Great question... there are a ton of examples... off the top of my head... Adam Lambert, Adele, Arianna Grande, Michael Bublé... also in classical singers: Pavarotti, Beverly Sills, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Hampson. Hope this helps. All the best with your singing.
The video is really amazing. One question I would like to figure out: when I record my "NG" humming 54321, it sometimes comes out as /a:/ vowel particularly in the last three notes. What's the problem and how to fix it?
Hmmm, double check that your tongue and soft palate are still touching as you descend in pitch. The /a/ will happen when the tongue and soft palate separate. Let me know if this helps.
I'm from Brazil, but I'm not fluent in English, because of this I can't understand everything that you said, and haven't subtitle in portuguese!, what I dooooo?
As well as you have said on it but the reason after the NG you do the vowel the reason it keeps going is cos the air is coming out the mouth then? And just your thorts on this, I went to a singing teacher time ago and she said if you don’t smoke you will have a better singing voice Which I understand you can still make singing sounds why you smoke but also when you don’t smoke you have a healthier voice therefore you have a healthier singing voice :) but the first exercise she made me do was the NG ha, it is great but going for my second lesson next week or so but thanks for your vids, take care :)
Hi Paul! Great that you are already familiar with the 'Ng to a vowel" :) Awesome! Yes, when you move from the ng to the vowel your sound will travel out your mouth. You don't need to feel a lot of air traveling out your mouth... but it is no longer in your nose. All the best with your singing. Wonderful that you are taking lessons! Cheering for you!
I Dont Know, Honestly I Seldomly Sing And Exercise But When I Sing Trust Me I Have A High Voice But Controlling My Tongue And Soft Palate Hard For Me To Do. Am I Singing Properly?
Hi! Good question... We can use the "ng to open vowel" in any part of our range... we can use it with chest voice, head voice, or when exploring mixed voice. So the goal of the exercise isn't to produced mixed voice, but the singer can use mixed voice when using the exercise. Singers of all styles and genres can use the "ng to open vowel" to find balance in their tone. Hope that makes sense. All the best with your singing!

this is so amazing. it really helped me. just one thing does Justin Beiber use mask resonance too?
Hi :) Thank you for the great explanation! :) Question - will the vowel deriving from NG always end up in falsetto/head voice like you showed here?

Its diffrent from justin stony approach about the idea of the soft palat
I greatly appreciate you and your teachings.
can you give me examples of singers with great mask placement please?
So glad you are finding them helpful. Great question... there are a ton of examples... off the top of my head... Adam Lambert, Adele, Arianna Grande, Michael Bublé... also in classical singers: Pavarotti, Beverly Sills, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Hampson. Hope this helps. All the best with your singing.

where support when low notes. in the diaphragm or chest. and where to inhale through the nose or mouth. just confused
Hi, I want to ask if we sing in mask even in chest voice or before the passagio thank you
What if we get tongue tension with the ng, can we still do the ng In sort of like a hum sound?
Absolutely! I love a great "mmmmm" as a warm-up.
I'm from Brazil, but I'm not fluent in English, because of this I can't understand everything that you said, and haven't subtitle in portuguese!, what I dooooo?

That's really hard to say without hearing you. But, if it feels good, is sustainable and sounds good you are probably doing many things well.
Is this also mix voice... to produce mix voice?
