    I fully believe IVF is a blessing for so many families, but how superficial can you be to care about the color of your child's eyes? Crazy!

      We have been playing around with different types of theme music and openings. So we still use it occasionally but other times we open the pieces in different ways. But we're so glad we noticed.

    I hope this becomes fully legal especially for families like mine with lots of severe medical conditions that are genetically passed on, I’ve always been afraid of one day having a child of my own because I’m afraid of passing on genes that would make their life painful and more difficult than it needs to be. I don’t look down upon anyone with health problems but I like that science can one day help prevent those from being passed on

      thank you I feel like people aren't grasping this. No ones playing god, its a choice option for those who dont want to pass down genetic mutations or mental illness'.

    I really don't understand the opposition to "designer" babies. If YOU don't want one, don't have one. Kidney and liver disease runs in my family, I would love to have my kids not have to go through that.

      Problem is that people fear that designer babies will create a new upper class and naturally conceived people won't be able to complete with someone who has all the "best" qualities. Also, it kinda just feels like a soft form of eugenics where suddenly blue-eyed blonds are also designed to be at peak fitness and intelligence, thinking long-term. China and India are already dealing with imbalances between men and women as parents had repeatedly preferred boys over girls when deciding which embryo to keep.

      I have arthritis, which is limiting even when well medicated, and a genetic predisposition to ovarian cancer - to the point where I have to have a hysterectomy and artificial menopause by 45. I wouldn't wish either on any child I had, especially as a lesbian who may benefit from the potential for all female ivf.

      I'm all for allowing people to root out physical genetic diseases, and maybe even in some rare cases allowing them to pick the gender (like say they already have five boys and want one girl), but allowing them to pick physical characteristics like eye color, height, skin tone, etc. is obviously just racist eugenics that is very problematic.

    It should be legal to do this. Children should be allowed to be born without any diseases that will only give them a life of pain. That whole designer babies should be legal as well Eye color and sex will not have that much of an impact in the U.S. however when it comes to physical/mental abilities that’s when the line gets rocky and not allowed.

    I will never understand being bothered by something that has nothing to do with me or my life. If we would stop worrying about what other people are doing we would be so much better off. I don't understand banning people from wanting a healthy child if they can afford to do so. Good for them and the baby.

    I understand why we would benefit from screening if you and your partner have the gene for a birth defect but it feels wrong to want eye colors or pick genders. The goal should be to have a healthy baby not a baby that is super good looking.

    • @marialindell9874

      I agree. I think it would be okay to "poke at" the baby/embryo to give it better chances to be healthy and to avoid illnesses that can truly make life hell. Eye color is just too much.

    There are about 16 million living decedents of Genghis Khan. Would editing my baby's genes to have blue or green eyes change it's DNA? Would scientist in 100 or 1,000 years be able to trace my ancestry? Or would my Genes be untraceable with changes in my baby's genetic code? would they still be MY Genes that are passed on? Would I personally consider them MY genes?

    • @azhrayharris8
      @azhrayharris8 4 года назад +3

      Deciding the color of a baby's eyes won't change its DNA. That baby would still be 100% your child.
      The process the scientists use to choose eye color is simply activating the gene for blue eyes, rather than the one for brown or green eyes. This outward expression of the genes is called your 'phenotype' i.e. the reason you look different from your siblings, despite sharing the same DNA. Your DNA, the stuff that is in every single one of your cells is called the 'genotype'.
      If you want to learn more, I strongly recommend going to Kahn Academy and watching some of their videos of genetics. It is such an interesting subject, and so fun to play around with once you learn to use punnett squares😊

      The modifying of a gene in DNA as per preference is still a form of altering DNA and not at all natural. We have all seen that the results can be devastating if we play with natural flow of surroundings

    • @azhrayharris8
      @azhrayharris8 4 года назад +3

      @@coolpcsharma6796 They're changing the DNA expression: the phenotype. They aren't adding or removing anything that isn't already there, just activating something that already exists.
