      While the bri'ish version maybe shorter, the word chips has a long history going all the way to the cavemen when they called the oongaboongas which roughly translated to crisps and this terminology later evolved into chips when the colonizers found native Americans eating cooked potato slices. After a while the phrase chips were commonly used in the Americas instead of the Briish version
