  • On 22 September 1992, BBC Omnibus broadcasted this documentary on the history of Walt Disney's animated versions of fairy tales, including animators reviewing their creations and recalling Walt Disney's love of fairy tales. As American as Disney is, the inspiration for many of his films came from Europe, including fairy tales by the brothers Grimm (Germany), Hans Christian Andersen (Denmark) and Charles Perrault (France). (English spoken, no subtitles).

I watched this documentary obsessively in the nineties, and have been looking out for it since. I was a teenager, so my tastes were different, but it seemed so different to any of the other documentaries playing about animation. Such a contrast to the stagey tv specials on Disney from America. I actually love the music in this, simply because it's a relief from the musical numbers actually used in the films, which we've all heard incessantly.
Thanks for uploading it. I taped over my grainy video copy over a decade ago.

This is a longer version than I remember repeatedly watching. Most of the little acted parts with the girl wandering around the studio must have been cut for ad breaks.

I believe that those days were the golden age of classic animation:

@@Melvinshermen I agree. Though Disney did produce/release "Frozen 2", a sequel to "Frozen" based on a fairy tale, which is so-far the last fairy tale movie (the film was released in 2013)

Disney needs to go back to their roots. I getting really bored with CGI and remakes. There are plenty of fairy tales out there that they could adapt and they could do it with 2D animation
