I feel the same way about some of the commenters. They can try and cod themselves that they want full coverage “to ensure that justice is truly served”, but the fact of the matter is that not all serious criminal trials are televised, it is being recorded and members of the public are not excluded, which is what’s required. Sure, not to the extent we can all rubberneck and misinterpret ad nauseum (a single hair becomes a clump of hair in some camps for example)
The whole thing has become a dog-and-pony show, and frankly I think Judge Gull made the right decision. It allows a modicum of respect and dignity to those two girls that whomever murdered them didn’t, as well as to their families.
Once the images and exhibits are out there, they will be used and exploited for decades to come, traumatising and retraumatising their loved ones and the community.

In the USA, our constitution guarantees every defendant the right to a speedy, fair, and PUBLIC trial by a jury of their peers. All of these parts are essential to justice in the eyes of Americans because we govern ourselves through our representatives, and we hold the reps accountable through our votes. Voters (the public) must be able to see what our government is doing in order to hold them accountable. We believe an open trial is more likely to produce a just outcome because everything that is done is open to scrutiny. We don’t just trust-we should be able to verify. There maybe bad actors that are drawn to an open trial, but that cannot be reason to violate the constitution.
This judge is subverting the Indiana law that says at least an audio recording will be available, if not video. She is also making it nigh unto impossible for the media and public to even attend the trial by not allowing water or food in the court, but making them stand in line for a seat. There’s no time for them to get any refreshment and continue observing in court. She is violating the letter and the spirit of a public trial and this is why the media and many in the public are upset.

I'd call this case far from solved at the moment. I disagree with you on this. The 'conspiracy theories' that have arisen for this case have come from what the defence have released and how LE and Gull have behaved. The PCA is pretty much the weakest one I've seen - not one witness agrees on the description of the clothes, not once car matches Richard Allen's. The bullet? No chain of discovery according to the defence.
Gull got rid of Baldwin and Rossi and appointed two attorneys of her choice. Even the latter two attorneys were disgusted at the treatment of RA. What has gone on behind the scenes here, (according to these attorneys, not social media), makes the lack of cameras/audio in court the wrong choice in my opinion. I understand wanting to avoid a circus, but instead we have interpretations from MSM. Chinese whispers? Misinterpretation? Plenty of room for that! The injuries on the girls, how they were found and the clothing has been in the public domain for some time now.

Justice is for the people and decided by a jury of peers representing a random swath of the population, aka the people! Guilt or innocence is decided by the people and the judiciary is present to inform of and give instructions as to the law so the people can decide if a crime occurred. And how the law applies. Then they facilitate the process of justice. Media should be present. Transparency should be ensured. Justice is in the interest of We the people! We are the ones who will be victimized if justice fails!

Everything in a public trial should be seen by the public.
Unlike in Read, the jury is sequestered in this trial and also from outside the community, so there is no reason to withhold the evidence or testimony on the basis it might influence the jury. I believe making it more common to sequester juries could be a solution to the problems of public influence on the trial.
I also believe all trials should be filmed and the testimony made public, but after the trial is complete. It is ridiculous we still rely on one person's typed transcript as the official record of what happened in a trial.
