- Welcome to the world of ultimate data security with QNAP's powerful built-in encryption software! Whether you're a business professional safeguarding sensitive client information or a personal user concerned about privacy, our encryption solutions offer peace of mind.
With support for Self-Encrypting Drives (SED), QNAP ensures that your data remains secure at all times. But what exactly does SED support mean for you? SED drives come equipped with hardware-based encryption capabilities, ensuring that your data is automatically encrypted as soon as it's written to the drive. This means that even if the drive is removed from your system, your data remains protected, thwarting unauthorized access attempts.
Don't compromise on security - trust QNAP's robust encryption software to keep your data safe and sound. Whether it's sensitive business documents, cherished memories, or confidential files, safeguard them with QNAP today!

Thanks, that’s very good and you have us covered with and without SED.
Password defined for encryption in Web interface is proprietary. It is not the standard Linux LUKS one. Why ? I did format & encrypt my external drive on QNAP but I can't read this drive on Linux . I don't see a reason for that.
Thanks for your continuous involvement in NAS.
You do not talk about folder encryption. Is it safe ? especially in case of stolen nas?
Yes absolutely, just make sure you do not save the encryption key in the NAS itself. Every time you reboot the NAS you will need to login to the WebGUI to enter in the password/key to unlock the share.
Does the Product Performance ( 9:52 ) show the performance with encryption via SED (Hardware encryption) or on volume-level?
Is it possible to unlock an encrypted drive from a QNAP mobile app? When I reboot my QNAP it would be more convenient for me to use the mobile app than log into a web browser to unlock the drive
Not from the app but you can login via the web interface and do it that way from a mobile device. Good feedback though, I'll pass it onto product management.
