@@markcarter108 Growing up on my Aunt Dot's farm there are probably two sounds I remember most. When it was time to harvest the tomatoes we would get a visit in an old school bus filled with migrant pickers. Every year, each group would have one man and one woman who could sing to make angels cry. All day there would be one ballad in Spanish after the other, each taking their turn. Better than radio for sure. The second sound is hearing my Aunt Dot yell at Uncle Ed as he read the paper before dinner: "Stop squintin' and clean your glasses!" So many other sounds from every day - but that quiet from dusk to dawn is what I miss most. Thank you for the chat, Mr. Carter
Another great video. We call Passion flower plant Maypops. That might be an Alabama thing though. I remember popping them by stomping on them as a kid. Oh what a wonderful blessing to have your Mom there with you. I just love listening to her. She reminds me of my Mom a lot. I lost my Mom a year and a half ago. She was 88 years old and I was blessed enough to be able to take care of her for the last eight years of her life. I'm so glad I found your videos and you led me to your girls videos too. I'm 68 and I have NEVER watched TV. I have always been too busy to sit down and waste my time. But, now I'm not able to do anything because I have spinal stenosis in my back and neck. I had surgery on my neck because I was becoming partially paralyzed plus I fell before my surgery and fractured my neck. I thank God for your videos and I love you and your beautiful family. I think God put you in my life and now I'm trying to catch up on all of your videos. Seriously, I do feel like I'm a part of your family. Y'all just bless my heart. THANK YOU!
These country roads are so deeply affecting, I drive them all the time now and can’t ever get enough, I know what it feels like to want to pick flowers along the side of the road, ha💐💐 Thank you for the 🎵 music, to me music is the heart of Appalachia ❣️
I loved hearing the old song again "Praying". Brings back good memories from my childhood. We went to church with a little man named Bro. Rusty Ethridge that would sing that. He was about as big around as he was tall lol. He would get up to testify in church and as he would talk about the goodness of the Lord, big tears would start falling off his face. He would start shouting (jumping up and down). He has been gone to Heaven for a long time now. Thanks for the memory! Also, I love that Gibson 🕊. So beautiful!
We called moths “Miller’s” also. I love the connection I find between these videos and my family ways and sayings. If my Dad was still alive, he would be thrilled by these videos. ❤️
Your daughter has a beautiful voice ❤️ only someone from the mountains can sing that heavenly! I love my Appalachian mountains so very much, I could never live anywhere else! Thank you, I love watching your videos...🥰❤️😘 God bless you all! 🙏🏼❤️

This was so interesting to watch! Makes me think my whole life was such a waste living where I did/do.... if only I could have it over to live in such an area. So calm and peaceful, non-assuming. 🎻🎵
I'm not sure what state this is but it sure is very nice, just really pretty. I live in northwest Ohio and it has to be the flatest land. there are a lot of corn and soybean farmers in this area.
The song praying for someone like me was absolutely wonderful. Love the song love the two that were singing it. Thanks for sharing this video really enjoyed watching
This is such a wonderful video. It makes you appreciate the simple things, especially family. I remember planting and working hard in the garden. There isn’t any thing any better than fresh cook food on the dinner table and then sitting on the porch watching the sun go down. Now that I’m retired, my husband and I moved back to the country and we love it.
Lovely melding of late summer harvest, scenery and music. Your story about passion fruit was interesting as I remember them growing in our garden on O'ahu in the Hawaiian Islands in the 60s. There, the fruit, called Lilikoi, is harvested to make juice and jam. Lots of work, as you have to force the pulp through a sieve to separate out the seeds. It can also be processed into a puree that makes a great filling for coconut cake...
The passion fruit use to grow behind my grandmother's house and I've been looking for it. She always called them May Pops. My eyes got big as fifty cent pieces when I saw the flower lol. It's hard to find in southeastern NC at least in my neck of the woods.
I wouldn’t live anywhere else in this world! I love these mountains and they are a part of who I am! Praise God…🥰🙌🏼❤️🙏🏼 Thank you for sharing all your wonderful memories and things! 🙏🏼🥰🙌🏼❤️✝️
I had a kind friend give me a ton of free apples. Today I made about 2 gallons of chunky applesauce. I put them in freezer bags. I've had company literally ask where I bought the apple sauce. What a compliment or was it? People aren't used to eating natural foods when we lived our entire lives like this. When I was a kid on a 13 acre farm, during the summer as we played and went back home, we'd all carry wood to throw in the basement. Kindling, logs... so during the winter we had plenty of wood because the house furnace took wood and coal. Kids today have no idea what work is. "loading up the dishwasher" is a big achievement.
I love this reminds me of Irvin ky my great grandmas house im 61 years old and wish I could get my memories back and relive it thank u so much for your vidioes
I grew up calling those pretty flowers maypops I would ride in the wagon when grandad and daddy were picking corn and when they came up the chute I would throw them at whoever was driving. The music today was special. Thank you!
I love this kind of video because it gives a genuine glimpse of what it is like to live in your part of Appalachia. My husband and I have got a busy road behind our house and beyond an empty lot. The sounds of cars, trucks, and the occasional screaming fire truck can sometimes get very old. Your mountain peace is heavenly. And the watermelon? To me if someone asked me what summer tastes like I would quickly say “watermelon.” There’s nothing as refreshingly sweet. Thank you for the video. So enjoyable.
Hello from South Carolina. I recently found your channel, and I have to say my soul feels at home here with you all. I've found myself auto-playing your videos to watch but also at times as ambiance to surround my home. The song "Praying" that Katie and Paul are singing here moved me to tears with its beauty. Thank you for sharing your lives with us all.
I live in the Cumberland Plateau region and your background noises sound the same as my background noises. Watching your channel reminds me not to take such things for granted and to be thankful for my surroundings. The rain sounded so peaceful. By the time it rains there, it has passed thru here. It's raining here now and I'm going to go out on the porch and enjoy it.
My favorite author is Cormac McCarthy so I’m naturally fascinated with Appalachian culture and scenery. What a beautiful place. The homeliness reminds me of the humid rural areas in Nicaragua.
I brought the dog in from our early morning walk and still being a couple hours before dawn I started chopping and slicing to begin preparing my meals for the week. Well, I just had to put everything down and replay Katie's singing. It was the perfect punctuation to those sounds of dawn coming in through the kitchen screen door. Katie, I hope you record and share a collection of your singing soon. Honestly, you just stopped me in my tracks this morning:) Thank you all for such a pleasant start to my day!
Its alot of work. I grew up this way and my mom worked non stop and died at 67. Im not sure it was a good life for her at all. I moved to Ca when I was 18. I would go back home (midwest) to visit every year but Ive never regretted moving
Oh my goodness - I stumbled upon your video this morning and now I have to force myself to stop watching and get ready for work. Thank you so very much for sharing a small part of your life. The sound of the rain, the flowers, the music, etc. What a wonderful start to my day. I can’t wait to pick back up and continue watching. Thank you and God Bless your family.❤
Now that I've watched all of it... I got more to say. I love the sound of rain in the trees... The gurgling creek... The music, that was so good. I noticed some stones on the porch... is there something particular about why they're there? The pink flowers and Passion vine are so pretty. I remember Joepie Weed (I might have spelt that wrong) from when I was kid. I'm 77 and most of what I have now are memories. To me... what you show in your videos are examples of "the little things" of life. The things that most people don't see, but they are the things that put a smile on your face when you're goin' to sleep. It just don't get no better than that. Thank you❤
I love your videos so much. The sights and sounds bring a lot of joy into my life. The Lord has truly blessed you and your lovely family. I especially enjoyed hearing Paul and Katie sing that beautiful song! I always look forward to viewing your wonderful videos.
These uploads are like a balm right about now . While much of the world seems to have lost its ever luvin’ mind … there’s at least one family in the Appalachian foothills that hasn’t . That is thriving and kind enough to share so much of it with us in RUclips Land . Warmly , Thank You again .
We had the "Wild Apricots" growing wild by our field in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. I've never seen them since. Would love to find seeds to plant some. What a beautiful childhood memory. Thank you.
This video brought a lump in my throat. I live way across the states from you and I never had what you have. It seems like such a peaceful warm and cozy life style.
Beautiful video, Tipper! The sights and sounds brought tears to my eyes as I reminisced of my young years in the foothills of PA. Passion flowers are a favorite of mine, but difficult to grow here in Florida unless we can find a shady spot. Had one a few years back growing up the base of an Obelisk in the back yard - it was stunning! The bees and other insects were prolific among that vine!! You could almost hear them singing as they gathered their nectar!! And... we always referred to moths as "Miller's" when I was growing up - and I still do! Really love the format of this video - very well composed and edited. Thank you for ALL you do to educate and bring joy to your viewers!!
The two of you make such a beautiful picture in your glorious surroundings. A feeling of peace just pervades the opening scene .Have enjoyed your films immensely just so calming.
I remember one time when I was singing in church, two of the women came up and spontaneously started harmonizing with me. I told them after the song was over, y’all made me sound good. Lol That was the way with Paul and Katie. He did such a great job on that old gospel song. No showcasing just sweet harmony with Katie and she made him sound good. Lol My husband sings and plays in church. Your brothers voice is sweet and pure. Enjoyed the video sis.
Wow my heart is lifted and my soul feels peace from this ... every bit of it was so peaceful loving and real , the song Paul and Katy played was so soulful (I am a huge fan! ) the creativity and easy going energy really stand out in this and its a feeling that somehow rubs off on the viewer ! this has the magic touch!! Great work , Yuns did good real good!! 💯❤️❤️👍👍
The "My Life in Appalachia" videos are favorites of mine, Tipper. They have such a rich variety of interesting content. Really enjoyed Corie, Katie and Paul making music in this video. When Corie masters Under The Double Eagle, I hope she will perform it here and on thepressleygirls channel. The guitar licks from Katie were an unexpected surprise. Your Appalachian 'miller' is actually a butterfly. Moths have antennas that resemble ferns (feathery and wide near the moth's head, tapering to a point), and butterflies, such as the one you videoed, have antennas that are like a thin rod with a small bulb on the end.
Amen. And the smell of grass and dirt after the rains. All those sensations that made life so wonderful. I wish my parents had never moved away from all of that. Urban living was empty to me.
My wife and I purchased a home in the Mountains of Virginia last year. We love it. We had moved out of the city. It is so nice to sit out during the evening, Closest thing to heaven IMO.
I found your channel after finishing "The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek" and wanting to learn more of the mountains.. I am so glad I found you. I'll be making no bake cheesecake and eating it on the porch while it rains thanks to you. Much love from rural Nova Scotia Canada!

Whenever that I did live round Bristol? I helped a lectrican, then we spent 2 hours listenin to tapes of his bluegrass band, Troublesome Hollow. Bill Cifton lived in the same village I did. Carter Fold was 7 miles away. One time my haircut was interrupted while the barber Gene Boyd played a few songs with a walk-in customer. Jack Branch gave me fiddle lessons for $20 whether it was a hour or two or three. I didn't have the money then but Henderson guitars was only bout $2500. Galax? Theys more playing inter the campgrounds than on stage. Nobody had a spare dollar hartly, but they WAS music.
Yeah them maypops are good weapons. My brothers and I called them "hand grenades" and railed each other with them. We called moths "candle flys" cause they's always going to the light and would get close enough to a flame to singe their wings. Thanks for the video
I just stumbled on your page today. I live in Pickens County SC now but my Granny was born on Wolf Mountain in Jackson County NC and my papa in Rosman. They moved down when my daddy was a child to work at the carpet mills. I always had a great love for those mountains and it’s where I feel most at peace. I look forward to seeing your content. 😊
Thanks for sharing. Love the videos. I think you may be the only person outside of my immediate family that I've ever heard call that insect a miller. That's what I grew up calling them, but any time I've ever said it around anyone outside my family they would just look at me like I was crazy. I feel so much better now! Also enjoyed the song. That a great old Louvin brothers song and Paul and Katie did a great job on it. Not used yet to seeing Katie play the guitar or singing harmony, but she did great.
This one blows me away, Tipper. Your video skills grow more and more deft by the week. Thank goodness also that every member of the Pressley family knows how to be themselves in front of the camera.
Here in Alabama, those passion fruit has always grown wild around cotton fields. I've played with them all my life, but would never eat one because I thought they were poison. Even after I found out that they were edible, I still wouldn't eat them. The insides are a slimy pulp with black seeds and resemble something that goes against the grain of being "food".
Living in a place where you feel so comfortable is what makes you
appreciate what God has created!
long as ye ignore the pollution n corruption n drugs.

When it was time to harvest the tomatoes we would get a visit in an old school bus filled with migrant pickers. Every year, each group would have one man and one woman who could sing to make angels cry. All day there would be one ballad in Spanish after the other, each taking their turn. Better than radio for sure. The second sound is hearing my Aunt Dot yell at Uncle Ed as he read the paper before dinner: "Stop squintin' and clean your glasses!"
So many other sounds from every day - but that quiet from dusk to dawn is what I miss most.
Thank you for the chat, Mr. Carter
I love to sing along with them as they sing this love filled song!!! Thank you for that!! PTL
Really enjoy all of these shows , music , cooking, garden, sight seeing and family time . Can't be beat !!
Another great video. We call Passion flower plant Maypops. That might be an Alabama thing though. I remember popping them by stomping on them as a kid. I sat on my front porch 2 weeks ago and shelled a bushel of purple hull peas to freeze for winter. I love to sit on my screen porch and hear the summer rain. Your supper you made with the deer meat and fixins’ sounded delicious. Is it my imagination or did you get a new kitchen sink? It’s nice to see Miss Granny out and about and doing good. You and your family have a happy Labor Day and I look forward to the next videos. Be safe and well and always make memories with the ones you love. 🌈🌞💖
No new sink 🙂 Thank you for watching!
We played with maypops as children in Greenville, SC. No one seems to know what I’m talking about now. I never heard them called Passion Flower.
@@CelebratingAppalachia my husband s family lived in decatur Arkansas,nw corner,& they called that plant wild apricots too! When ripe they would be yellow gold inside i think, sweet, lots of seeds.
THANK YOU!
These country roads are so deeply affecting, I drive them all the time now and can’t ever get enough, I know what it feels like to want to pick flowers along the side of the road, ha💐💐
Thank you for the 🎵 music, to me music is the heart of Appalachia ❣️
Thank you so much!
Thank you Mrs. Tipper
I'm with Granny...I dig up plants growing wild on roadsides. I always have a trowel, snips, gloves and a shovel in the car!
The world should come sit on your front porch so peaceful. Totally love your videos. I'm 72 married 53 years and you are teaching me to cook. My Husband thanks you.
@@ivyleague3224 This is North Carolina. Specifically Brasstown, NC.
Storytelling in the home has become a lost art. Wonderful stories! It shares our inspirations to inspire others.
Oh my!! Yummy! Makes me hungry!
I just love Granny so much such a blessing and sweet heart ❤️ ❤😂😅
Thank you!
Strumming so sweet to idle the day away in an atmosphere of joy and peace. God bless
I'm so glad we make you feel at home 😀
Honestly, you just stopped me in my tracks this morning:)
Thank you all for such a pleasant start to my day!
Oh MY GOODNESS!!! Your husband & daughter’s music IS OUTSTANDING. !!!!!! Most beautiful thing for today !!!! Crying
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! It's my brother Paul and my daughter 😀
This is just so lovely and comforting, this the kind of life I’d love to have. Thank you for sharing. Much ❤️ for Northern California
This is great!!! What a beautiful life and talented family. 💜
The song "praying" gave me goose bumps. Beautiful 🥰❤️ You are all a blessing to me.
Thank you❤
The little things make life good! There's rocks everywhere here-Katie is a lapidary artist and a die hard rock hound 🙂

Aah, I understand.
The Appalachian Mountains will always be my home. Thank you for sharing your beautiful family. Makes me home sick.
I love your videos so much. The sights and sounds bring a lot of joy into my life. The Lord has truly blessed you and your lovely family. I especially enjoyed hearing Paul and Katie sing that beautiful song! I always look forward to viewing your wonderful videos.
I can only imagine the joy to be surrounded by music in such a beautiful place. Thankyou so much for sharing it all with us.
This was so beautiful, Thanks for sharing
These uploads are like a balm right about now . While much of the world seems to have lost its ever luvin’ mind … there’s at least one family in the Appalachian foothills that hasn’t . That is thriving and kind enough to share so much of it with us in RUclips Land . Warmly , Thank You again .
We had the "Wild Apricots" growing wild by our field in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. I've never seen them since. Would love to find seeds to plant some. What a beautiful childhood memory. Thank you.
A really great way to live....love the land and the people. I enjoy your videos immensely.
I recognize that syrup bottle! Cracker Barrell has the best syrup ever!! I always bring my left over and extra bottle home for later. My favorite!

Thank you for letting me visit with You All this evening,it means so much to me !! God Bless. Jean
Thank you, I rocked my grandbaby to the wonderful music tonight for his bedtime! God Bless You All!!

@@CelebratingAppalachia I will thank you soo much!!
So glad you enjoyed this one Ann 🙂
🙂
Thank You.
Again.
What you all provide there
is fine place for the spirit to dwell and to be refined.
Glad you enjoyed this one Phillip 🙂
Wow my heart is lifted and my soul feels peace from this ... every bit of it was so peaceful loving and real , the song Paul and Katy played was so soulful (I am a huge fan! ) the creativity and easy going energy really stand out in this and its a feeling that somehow rubs off on the viewer ! this has the magic touch!! Great work , Yuns did good real good!! 💯❤️❤️👍👍
I love listening to granny. I hope you include her as much as possible.💖
I'm positive she'll share it in a video once she gets it right 🙂 Fascinating info on the miller vs butterfly-thank you!
I can’t skip your videos. lovely
You know this gives me hope. If there is still people like you in the USA their might still be a chance for us all. To God be the glory❤️
Goodness me young lady....I could listen to more of your beautiful voice!!!!!!
Crickets at night and wind through the trees, God's lullaby
Love this video. Live in Alabama, we live very similar lives and have similar memories.
Mornin Tipper, Thank You for sharing your Life with us, be well and definitely, be Blessed!!!
I found your channel after finishing "The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek" and wanting to learn more of the mountains.. I am so glad I found you. I'll be making no bake cheesecake and eating it on the porch while it rains thanks to you. Much love from rural Nova Scotia Canada!
Glad you found us Lauren! I really enjoyed that book 🙂
@@CelebratingAppalachia I did too, it wasn’t a fluffy story where everything works out. The second one is coming out next year and I cannot wait! I have a few other books set in the same scene to read, but I can’t wait to get there and see everything in person
I loved the song "Praying for someeone like me". Just Beautiful. Thank you
"Miller", oh my gosh. I totaly forgot about those! 😀 That is what we used to call them also! 🥰 Love rekindling memories of growing up in Appalachia !! Thank you! And Katie, what a beautiful song, nice job on the guitar! You guys harmonize so beautifully together. Was that your father that you were singing with? Thank you for sharing! ❤🙏🙂
Thank you Ramona! That was my brother Paul singing with Katie 🙂
I had to move from my mountain 13 years ago. I sure miss it. Had to move down close to Charlotte where they have no respect for anything or anyone. So glad I found your channel. Takes me back. Love it.
I'm from Bristol-well Bluff City. Hi neighbor!
Appalachia, Sasquatch territory!!! I so enjoyed this video!!! the music was excellent and i love the Gibson dove, WOW!!! Thank you beautiful people.
Oh my goodness we called moths millers too. I grew up in Northwest Georgia and we do share so many stories that are so similar.
Thank you Denise-neat to know you used miller too 🙂
I love the videos where we watch the family spending time together doing things.I love you and your family
Thank you Doug-good to know you use miller too 🙂
This one blows me away, Tipper.
🙂 I agree they do look pretty unappetizing!
In Louisiana back in the early 60's in the country I remember these growing wild. We called them "May Pops".
Beautiful singing . Love hearing this kind of music.
