Thank You Mike!!! You just saved me a plumber's call. Your comment about the set screw helped me get the drain stopper, without breaking anything. Great Video!!!

Glad it helped! I'll need to watch it again next time I do this as a refresher.

Thank you so much, I’ve never had a drain so thoroughly attached to the bathtub. Like any other time I’ve had you just unscrew it with your hand it comes right off. I don’t know why they design it this way but you have saved me so so much time. We’ve been trying to get this thing off for ages and could not figure it out and I’ve just been dealing with the tub not draining properly or closing properly or anything thank you💜

That's pretty funny. Glad it helped! A lot of the time I put these videos up here just so I can do it again a couple years down the road after I forgot how to do it.

I couldn't unscrew the top knob off and yours is the only video that shows how to use the channel locks to hold the stopper base..... Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this video! I enjoy fixing things myself (I grew up in the country surrounded by farms), but I had trouble figuring this drain out until I watched your video. It must have been worked on a few times before I lived here because the screw was replaced with an odd shaped bolt that barely fit in the hole. Your 2 wrench method helped me unclog the drain in less than 15 minutes. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video to help people. 👏🏻💪🏻

Thank you so much for the video! I just followed your instructions for my bath tub. The only difference was a bolt instead of a screw to take out under the top. Chewbacca has been expelled and the Drano will take care of the rest.

Definitely was not, I have never seen a drain so secure before, who the hell was stealing this man’s drains that he decided enough was enough and conceived this pain in the ass😂

Removed set screw, but stopper assembly appears to be all one piece since it will not come loose.
Stopper is always in the closed position as well. The place on the tub that would normally hold a lever to open/close the drain has been blanked off as well...
Not sure what to do at this point...

Mine looks same but no tools required. Just lift a tiny bit and turn to unscrew. If you lift all the way then the pin has cleared and it will just turn forever.

Question: I have a stopper just like the one in this vid with no set screw and a large brass screw on top of the stopper underneath the small cap. When I have the stopper up and turn the screw counter clockwise in about half a turn or so it tightens up so much that I can’t turn anymore now matter how hard I try. If I turn clockwise it turns forever and nothing happens. With the stopper down the screw turns endlessly in either direction and nothing happens. Any ideas??? I’m about to fix the whole contraption using the sledgehammer method.

      @@briahnacochran5529 ...truthfully, I got lucky.
The screw ended up having some "perfectly" messed up threads that caused it to loop when trying to unscrew. I was able to get it off, by hammering the top, which made the threads imperfect and then I was able to grab it with some pliers.

We managed to put a man on the moon, build a damn ISS and yet we can’t seem to be able to manufacture a decent stopper that’s easy to remove for cleaning. 😑
