Love how the coach driver arm just stretches unnaturally and pushes him in the coach. Great practical effect.

Fun fact in the book the coach driver is Dracula himself in disguise. There is no one else in the castle besides him and his vampire brides

I guess in the movie this was never clear. I know that in the book the coach was Dracula disguised because in the book Jonathan is impressed about how strong the coach is and that Dracula had the same strenght. But I guess in the movie they decided that the coach would be a creature since there was no clue about Dracula being the coach.
Gary Oldman is a legend.

@Eduardo Mendez Keanu is a good actor, but no Gone with the Wind type actor. He is a great Action Hero especially at 60 years old which is amazing.

This is by far the best Dracula ever made. That hair and red cape nailed the creepy look. I hope someday this design make a comeback on future Dracula movies.

His love for Mina, who was the incarnation of his lost wife,
AND the seductive nature of a vampire.

That by far was the greatest opening scene of any Dracula rendition/movie ever made. And should have had a huge place in movie history !!

I am and always will be a huge fan of this movie. It is by far the best Dracula movie ever. I have watched it over 100 times and each time I find and catch something that i missed previously. Gary Oldman did an amazing performance with this character. By far the best ever.
Gary Oldman is truly immortal in this artistic masterpiece.
Fun fact: In the book, the coach was early because the coach driver was driving the horses really hard, trying to avoid having Jonathan Harker meet up with the carriage to Dracula’s castle. The coach driver basically tells Jonathan, “Oh, your ride isn’t here! I guess you’ll just have to go with us to the next stop!”

Dracula, the immortal demon of the night, living amongst his acolytes... ready to spread his darkness to the world. Harker, a victim of Dracula's torture for a month...it must of felt like a realm in hell. Count Dracula, a dark prince of deceit. Pure talent of Gary Oldman.
Count Dracula was centuries old yet so futuristic. His gate and his doors were already automatic. I can imagine he has Alexa ready everytime he is about to enter or exit the door

Vampires are magical powers - hypnotizing eyes, the ability to shape-shift and can move objects around even tossing through the air without laying a hand on them. Surely it’s easy to open/close a door or gate with mental power.
Those doors and gates were moved Magically to show the Draculas Powers. I wish the movie was Edited better and made a little more Dramatic.

The score by Wojciech Kilar is magnificent. I am so happy to have finally obtained the 3 CD set of the expanded original motion picture soundtrack released by La La Land Records. So much more music then the original 1 CD Columbia Records release.

That coachman is the most incredible start to the whole thing.
Eiko Ishioka was a costume designer of this film. Her work made it even more brilliant with a great actors and script, and music.
I love how he apologizes at the end. After that long monologue I'm not sure how I'd react. You just sliced your hand and almost drank your own blood. Ok fine.
It was even worst because no blood come out from his hand. either this dude do not have blood in his body or he is able regenerate in seconds. Either way I would start to think I am dead.

4:37 Fun fact: That wasn't scripted, Gary Oldman was just so tired of Keanu Reeves sleepwalking through his performance that he almost decapitated him, but stopped himself at the last moment.

I don't see anything wrong with Keanu's acting. He isn't exciting, but is he supposed to be? It looks like a good contrast to Dracula's drama.

Oldman and Hopkins are always good. They get into it.
Gary Oldman's talent was impressive and I think he necessarily needed to fill a void that Keanu couldn't to maintain the quality of the movie. I found it very romantic. Oldman brought a humanity to Dracula that made me see him more as a real person than a monster but also a monster.

(5:08) I love how the Count runs the edge of the sword across his hand and inspects what should be a gaping wound. I'm curious if that was made up on the spot or was part of the script. This whole part was almost verbatim from the book and it's so awesome to see what Gary Oldman does with the material. He's such a great actor. And then there's Keanu, bless his heart. 😉 😜

Anyone notice that at the 3:30 mark Dracula literally walks over a giant cross painted on the floor?
@@zippityzop That is true from our perspective but from that of the count and Harker it's the right way up. My only conclusion is that every ounce of holy power has been leeched from that place so that even that cross has no power. But that's just my opinion :)
Also his train/cape is red, most likely symbolistic of blood.
If you don't have faith, cross is useless... there was no faith or love for God in that castle. That's the reason

Ooo man I was mesmerized by this movie...I still remember that day it was March 2005 and I had my electronics practical exam the next day at 9:30 am ..the movie I think aired the day before at 12 am.. technically on the same day as my exams...yet I watched the movie letting go of my exam preparation....watched till 2am I think.. woke up late at 9 am....almost missed my exam....but the movie was worth it and my exam was A ok...

En mi opinión, es la mejor versión de Drácula que he visto en mi vida, la interpretación que hace Gary Oldman es superlativa y en general todos los actores hacen un performance actoral magnífico. La fotografía, el diseño de vestuario, de Arte, los efectos , el guión son perfectos. Debió haber sido premiada con muchos oscares, es una película de culto.
