I agree. Either way it’ll be hard for her. But it’s hard for everyone - Cate, Ty, Brandon, Theresa. It’s good that there’s a lot of love and she’s cares for, but it was such an unfortunate situation. Their 16&p episode broke my heart now that I watched it as an adult. This is the best outcome for her though. Cate and Ty did the right thing. It sucks that the right thing was so shitty though, but they did what was best and no one can fault them for that.

The worst thing you can do is tell a kid “mom is not doing it and you will not come to the party until you do xyz” and then give in to a tantrum. I’m a behavior therapist and this is the biggest lesson we have to stress to parents. Do not make a threat and then not follow through

Dude, it’s called separation anxiety. Cate has left during pivotal times of Nova’s life. Nova will work it out on her own in due time. Cate and Tyler need to be patient with her.
I love how they do that every year for Carly. I know they wish they did things differently they were young and struggling with messed up or lives. They never forgot her behind though as she went to live with her adoptive family. Props to them. Also nova probably doesn’t want recorded while she’s taking a bath and feels comfortable with her girl mother with her instead.

Its bitter sweet. Isn't it? At the time they believed to do the right thing for "their situation" but the daily regrets and reminder of your flesh and blood- baby being out there with adopted family. This is what they celebrate now every year a birthday cake. My heart really does go out for them. Such brave young teen parents! All the battles they are both overcoming... can only pray and let God heal that pain! I can't imagine having to adopt one of my children. I'm a mum soon to be of 5!! big ups to ALL the parents that adopt out- adopt- be surrogates... like that's some HARD s*** to ever do and go through same time!!🙏🏽

The thing with open adoption though is if the adoptive parents ask you not to do something, you don’t do it. They broke that trust by posting pictures of Carly online despite being asked not to, among other things. It’s their own fault they don’t get to see or talk to her. They couldn’t keep her because they were 16 and their own parents were addicts of either drugs or alcohol and couldn’t help them, which is obviously not a healthy environment for a child to grow up in.
@@victoriahale5254 she seems like me, I felt I didn't fit in with my adopted parents. Yeah they did a lot for me, and I will always be greatful for them. I'm 32 now and spend more time with my real mother and we have a great relationship, I do call her mom and I have 4 sisters and we are all close.

Amen! Some people need to realize not all people who give their children up for adoption are bad people. That is what an open adoption is for. They gave her to someone who could take care of her because she was a teenager in high school and could not financially do so. Alicia CK There is a difference between caring and being way too clingy. They obviously care, but they are definitely heading towards being obsessive. Their whole lives seem to revolve around this child, of whom they are no longer even allowed to see or have contact with. Not to mention it’s literally at the expense of the children they do have, which isn’t fair at all. It’s obvious they regret placing her for adoption. I love Catelyn and Tyler, it is an exemplary couple with their ups and downs. They have been very strong and together they have gone through many painful things, supporting and comforting each other. They have their fights like any other couple but they have looked for ways to face obstacles from love and consideration. God bless you. her wedding was the most emotional, I cried when I saw that episode. They have been very strong.
I believe it technically is. There is no legal contract saying that Cate and Tyler HAVE to see Carly or even know anything about her life. It was just a verbal agreement that can be changed at anytime the parents wish. The adoption agency really made Cate and Ty believe they could just drop in and play with the kid every weekend.

My friend gave her baby up for adoption, and the adoptive parents let her go see him anytime she wants, take him to the zoo or movies, etc etc. He’s even spent the night with her before (her younger brother and him are the same age and best friends, so it was really a sleepover for the boys. She was the chaperone though). But the catch is she had to work with them and build that level of trust up. You can’t go in expecting to get your way just because you are the birth parent. That’s not how that works. Catelynn and Tyler haven’t learned that. For example, when the adoptive parents ask them to not post pictures of her on social media they need to respect them and not do it, not do it anyways because “they are the birth parents”. That’s the quickest way to shatter any type of trust they may have had.
Kids do this stuff all the time my daughter has always been home with me, and she will cry because she wants her dad to do stuff like get her ready for school or whatever and then some day she'll cry because she wants me to do it and acts like it's the end of the freaking world they're just kids. There's no suspicious activity or some abandonment issues or anything like that kids are just kids and will act however the heck they freaking want!

I don’t understand why people are having a problem with a father (who IS the primary parent in this case) assist his young daughter with bathing. If you don’t trust your husband/baby’s father to bathe your young child then something is seriously wrong and I would wonder why you have them around your child to begin with. He’s the one who had cared for Nova when Caitlyn was A) the depressed to get off the couch and be a mom (and I’ve had awful postpartum depression and KNOW it is super hard, but you get off your ass and be a mom to your babies!) and B) goes in and out of treatments and “retreats” for months on end, in other states than her child is in. Tyler IS the default parent for Nova. He takes care of Nova whenever Caitlyn doesn’t feel like being a mom. And Nova cries and screams for her mom because the poor girl has attachment issues and separation anxiety from a parent who disappears for months on end. Which Ty has never done to her

She has awful separation anxiety from Caitlyn because Caitlyn disappears from her life for months on end. Even the beginning of this clip, she says “Nova is going through a phase” (about wanting Mom.) Now having cameras shoved in the baby girl’s face while she’s in the tub is way beyond inappropriate. January 1 every year since she was born on January 1. Always have pictures and videos on their Instagram. I do believe her first birthday was filmed. They had butch and April there at different times as they can't be in a room together or couldn't at the time.
When its an open adoption, that is the agreement. Its Brandon and Teresa that arnt following through with the agreement. If they didn't want to associate with the birth parents, they should have went with a closed adoption.

They did neither by posting photos of her on social media knowing the adoptive parents didn't want them to, then refused to delete them right away when asked until they weren't allowed to see her anymore. Now they are playing the victim card, when they are the ones not following the rules and regulations for their own open adoption. They may be her parents by blood, but legally in the eyes of any court system in America the adoptive parents are her parents. I have a dear friend who placed her son for adoption, and because she follows the rules the adoptive parents set into place she's allowed to see him whenever she wants and takes him out to eat, to the zoo, etc etc unsupervised. But she obviously had to earn their trust first. Being the birth mother and father doesn't give you automatic rights to the child when you sign a paper at the beginning of the adoption legally terminating those rights.
I obviously can’t judge since I don’t personally know every detail, but I will just say that this clip alone might shed some light on Brandon & Theresa’s seemingly harsh and extreme decision to cut contact entirely. Catelynn literally said out loud, and on tv for all to hear, that she wonders why Nova had been only wanting her lately? Holy crap, this was hard af to watch, I couldn’t even finish. Nova just lost her mom for how many days, and they think she’s trying to “be the boss”?! Unbelievable. That coming from Tyler’s mom also helps me understand more, kind of why they are the way they are. Zero self awareness, or common sense even, from either side of both families. For all of Catelynn’s mental health issues, she doesn’t seem to even try to recognize it in other people-not to mention basic empathy. This kid has been traumatized and needs communication and reassurance her mom is there to stay, and she not only gets yelled at, but then has to beg her mom “please” give her a 5 minute bath? I am far from a regular viewer, but to me it feels like Catelynn cares way more about Carly, and meanwhile was failing poor Nova. Fucking heartbreaking.. 😔
This is not healthy for them to be celebrating Carly’s birthday. I’m sure that hurt is deep. Hopefully Carly turns 18 and explores the possibility of celebrating her birthday with them.
It doesn’t work like that, especially not after this long (Carly is 9-10). They had about a month after placing her to revoke that decision before the papers were signed, but once that month is up and papers are signed there is no going back. In the eyes of the law she’s Brandon and Theresa’s daughter, not Tyler and Catelynn’s. Obviously they will always be connected by blood, but legally they have no rights to her.

I agree. Either way it’ll be hard for her. But it’s hard for everyone - Cate, Ty, Brandon, Theresa. It’s good that there’s a lot of love and she’s cares for, but it was such an unfortunate situation.
Their 16&p episode broke my heart now that I watched it as an adult. This is the best outcome for her though. Cate and Ty did the right thing. It sucks that the right thing was so shitty though, but they did what was best and no one can fault them for that.
Since Catelynn and Tyler and Brandon and Terssa agreed to keep Carly's adoption opened I think that she does feel the love from both sets of parents.

This is what they celebrate now every year a birthday cake. My heart really does go out for them. Such brave young teen parents! The thing with open adoption though is if the adoptive parents ask you not to do something, you don’t do it. They broke that trust by posting pictures of Carly online despite being asked not to, among other things. It’s their own fault they don’t get to see or talk to her. They couldn’t keep her because they were 16 and their own parents were addicts of either drugs or alcohol and couldn’t help them, which is obviously not a healthy environment for a child to grow up in.

It was their way of punishing Tyler and katelyn. That meaning Brandon and Teresa broke a rule, they are supposed to have two visits a year, they went almost two years.

Amen! Some people need to realize not all people who give their children up for adoption are bad people. That is what an open adoption is for. They gave her to someone who could take care of her because she was a teenager in high school and could not financially do so. Mothers who give their children up by open adoption are brave, selfless women in the world.

Their whole lives seem to revolve around this child, of whom they are no longer even allowed to see or have contact with. They have their fights like any other couple but they have looked for ways to face obstacles from love and consideration. I believe it technically is. There is no legal contract saying that Cate and Tyler HAVE to see Carly or even know anything about her life. It was just a verbal agreement that can be changed at anytime the parents wish. The adoption agency really made Cate and Ty believe they could just drop in and play with the kid every weekend.

My friend gave her baby up for adoption, and the adoptive parents let her go see him anytime she wants, take him to the zoo or movies, etc etc. He’s even spent the night with her before (her younger brother and him are the same age and best friends, so it was really a sleepover for the boys. She was the chaperone though). But the catch is she had to work with them and build that level of trust up. You can’t go in expecting to get your way just because you are the birth parent. That’s not how that works. Catelynn and Tyler haven’t learned that. For example, when the adoptive parents ask them to not post pictures of her on social media they need to respect them and not do it, not do it anyways because “they are the birth parents”. That’s the quickest way to shatter any type of trust they may have had.
Kids do this stuff all the time my daughter has always been home with me, and she will cry because she wants her dad to do stuff like get her ready for school or whatever and then some day she'll cry because she wants me to do it and acts like it's the end of the freaking world they're just kids. There's no suspicious activity or some abandonment issues or anything like that kids are just kids and will act however the heck they freaking want!

He’s the one who had cared for Nova when Caitlyn was A) the depressed to get off the couch and be a mom (and I’ve had awful postpartum depression and KNOW it is super hard, but you get off your ass and be a mom to your babies!) and B) goes in and out of treatments and “retreats” for months on end, in other states than her child is in. Tyler IS the default parent for Nova. He takes care of Nova whenever Caitlyn doesn’t feel like being a mom. They did neither by posting photos of her on social media knowing the adoptive parents didn't want them to, then refused to delete them right away when asked until they weren't allowed to see her anymore. Now they are playing the victim card, when they are the ones not following the rules and regulations for their own open adoption. They may be her parents by blood, but legally in the eyes of any court system in America the adoptive parents are her parents. I have a dear friend who placed her son for adoption, and because she follows the rules the adoptive parents set into place she's allowed to see him whenever she wants and takes him out to eat, to the zoo, etc etc unsupervised. Being the birth mother and father doesn't give you automatic rights to the child when you sign a paper at the beginning of the adoption legally terminating those rights.

I obviously can’t judge since I don’t personally know every detail, but I will just say that this clip alone might shed some light on Brandon & Theresa’s seemingly harsh and extreme decision to cut contact entirely. Catelynn literally said out loud, and on tv for all to hear, that she wonders why Nova had been only wanting her lately? Holy crap, this was hard af to watch, I couldn’t even finish. Nova just lost her mom for how many days, and they think she’s trying to “be the boss”?! Unbelievable. That coming from Tyler’s mom also helps me understand more, kind of why they are the way they are. Zero self awareness, or common sense even, from either side of both families.
For all of Catelynn’s mental health issues, she doesn’t seem to even try to recognize it in other people-not to mention basic empathy. This kid has been traumatized and needs communication and reassurance her mom is there to stay, and she not only gets yelled at, but then has to beg her mom “please” give her a 5 minute bath? I am far from a regular viewer, but to me it feels like Catelynn cares way more about Carly, and meanwhile was failing poor Nova. Fucking heartbreaking.. 😔
This is not healthy for them to be celebrating Carly’s birthday. I’m sure that hurt is deep. Hopefully Carly turns 18 and explores the possibility of celebrating her birthday with them.

It doesn’t work like that, especially not after this long (Carly is 9-10). They had about a month after placing her to revoke that decision before the papers were signed, but once that month is up and papers are signed there is no going back. In the eyes of the law she’s Brandon and Theresa’s daughter, not Tyler and Catelynn’s. Obviously they will always be connected by blood, but legally they have no rights to her.
