    In this video we explore the stereo capabilities of the SIDKickPico, the coolest SID replacement for under $10 ... and it can have built in games / tools or any kind of .prg really!
    I did not mention this in the video, but there is a second version of the PCB which has a built in DAC. It was not available as an assembled board when I ordered mine, but it is now. Use the Revision 2 firmware(s) for this one. The difference is, that you don't need the separate DAC board. Everything else works the same! You can find it here:

    This is super cool! I actually bought that brown C64 earlier this month and it was advertised to have an original SID. It didn’t, luckily the seller send me the actual SID. But otherwise I would’ve made this picosid

    Thanks for doing this series. I followed the link in the description from the original video. Down at the bottom of that link on PCBWay it clearly states that there is another version with built-in DAC and a link to it. Clearly some people didn't read all the way to the bottom before ordering. That is the one I chose and 10 units assembled is just shy of $100 with shipping with about a 28 day production time. To be clear when you order the price will vary because ordering shows $0.00 for components and that quote will come in about 3-4 days for a total price. By the time you add a Digi-Key order for the Pico and headers you are probably closer to $16-$20 USD. I still think that is a great deal and plan on sharing some of these with a few friends as I do not need 10.

    More hardware gold for my ole C64. Thanks for the AliExpress warning.

    If you set the SIDs as one 8580 and one 6581, you'll get a better pronounced stereo effect from the mono soundtracks because of the sound characteristics differences between them. Otherwise, you'll get exactly the same sound from both channels, which is only "dual mono"

      Yep. I have to upgrade my setup for that. Just ordered a new video switch that supports AUX audio. Meanwhile I am waiting for @NoelsRetroLab video on the SIDs. I am sure he will do a great video.

    I'm hoping for a head to head comparison on the sidkick versus the armsid and the arm2sid.

      I think @NoelsRetroLab has that in the works for a while. He is much better at that kind of stuff than me.

      Just for fun I ordered some from Amazon (silver contacts) and ... no output! So that's 100% silver contact DACs not working (no matter what source). Go for the gold ones like these: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B09NXKPZ8N

      @@RetroWK Hm, strange that does not work even from reliable source. Let me assemble one, will update later.

    Vielleicht liegt es hier dran -> Hast Du die Lötbrücken auf den DAC Boards entsprechend geschlossen? Auf dem gezeigten DAC bei Minute 14:16 sind keine Lötbrücken gesetzt.

      Ja, bei einem der Boards davor habe ich das probiert. Hat leider nichts gebracht.

    Chinaware ist immer noch kritsch zu sehen. Bei den 3861er bauteilen,die auf den sidkick pico kommen, haben mich die Brüder auch übers Ohr gehauen . 10 Stück bestellt, alles Ausschuss ! Ich lasse die jetzt auch bei pcbway assemblieren, kostet zwar 80 euronen gelötet, aber den Stress tue ich mir nicht mehr an. Picos habe ich jetzt auch genug, die clones sollen laut frenetic ja auch laufen....

    What is the sid file you are playing?

    • @RetroWK
      @RetroWK  3 месяца назад +3

      It's the built in Sid file that plays if you press "p" in the menu. It's called The Spark in me (by Flex).
