    You were one of the first channels I found talking about clean/ Christian romance books and for a while I didn't think any existed because everything seemed to have some sort of sexual content in it. Thank you for helping me find books that were in my comfort level.

    I read secular and Christian fiction. I took me over a year to figure out what I’m comfortable with and what the Holy Spirit convicts me off. I completely skip stuff like smut, skim if there cuss words, and etc. before I read a secular, not clean, has cuss words, and etc. I prayer over it And ask God for guidance with the book like if I should be reading this or not

    I’m so glad you’re in the Romance space! We need more readers speaking up about the books that they love that offer alternatives to spice, open door etc. not to shame people who enjoy those books but to help readers who share a desire for clean fiction. To spread the word also and help those authors books be found and loved! And I think you’re a great person for the young adult reader to find to see, “wow! There are amazing women out there who love clean books and have good reasons for loving them.” It’s all a witness for the gospel.

    Fully agree it’s so challenging to navigate what’s appropriate & what we’re okay with reading without putting shame on others who have different standards, but also wanting to honor God. It’s a whole thing 😅 but I rly appreciate you talking about this & sharing clean romance options. It rly is so needed 🥰

    I also tried an Ali Hazelwood book for myself I was gifted a copy of Check & Mate and thought it might be better spice wise, because it is young adult. Let’s just say it was not. So much talk on sleeping around, orgys, and crazy stuff and it was high school based. So I think her books are a strong no from me as well. Thank you for sharing! ❤ so glad you’re in this space to help us navigate!

    I came here for the discussion about spice in books! Oceana, thank you so much for sharing your recommendations and your thoughts on spice in books! I feel like there are more people who look for books that are clean than we realize. I was watching a video from Book Chats with Shelley about the whole Booktok and spice situation and she mentioned something that i've also noticed. it's getting harder and harder to find popular books that have little to no spice and that's in every genre, including historical fiction and young adult! I'm thankful you are here to share clean romance recommendations because I'm always on the hunt for them.

    Thank you so much for keeping true to clean romance. You are one of few in the book reading space and very helpful to many people.
    You are right that none of us is perfect, but the fact that you are working to walk with Him even in what you read speaks volumes to your heart posture towards Him. ❤
    Also, don't worry because if the LORD is calling you to do something, He will guard you and keep you on the right path!

    I recently discovered that I can request books to be put on the shelves (physical, ebooks and audiobooks) in our library system, including Indie authors. We can do up to 3 a month. The only one that has been rejected was Heart of Red Blood of Blue, so far. And now our library has available Annah Conwell, Courtney Walsh's newer books and the Sweater Weather series. Some I requested and some they added after I requested one or two in the series. Annah Conwell's writing is so fun for me. The first 2 books in the Sweet Peach series were great! I am about 60 pages in The First Taste book now.

    thank you for always saying if it’s clean or not! as a christian teenager, i love romance books a lot! it’s super hard to find a good romance book without any spice now. when i first started reading, i read a book and there was spice in it and it was just honest disturbing how much detail someone can put into a book for young teens. if i ever know that a book is gonna have spice coming up, then i either stop reading or i skip the scene

    I know what you mean about writing for indie authors. I've definitely found my share of duds along the way, so it's always fun when you find a really great one! I see now that its just super hard when first becoming an author cuz there's so much more to writing than people realize! And getting good editing and feedback is expensive! Ah well..I'll definitely have to check out Jenny's books! I haven't read any of hers yet 😄

    I appreciate knowing if there is spice in a book or not. I know what I don’t want to read and it’s no fun starting a book and enjoying it only to DNF it due to the spice content. I wish everyone would add that content to their reviews even on Goodreads.

    Highly recommend checking out more Katie Bailey books! I’m currently going through the same process you are with learning what I’m comfortable with and what authors I’m willing to just skip through certain scenes for. She always has the perfect balance with her books being closed-door but also having innuendo (which I like because I’m not here to read Amish romances or anything 😂)

    I don't enjoy reading spice in any capacity, so I greatly appreciate you and your reviews. Have I read books with spice? Yes. Have I thoroughly enjoyed them? Yes, but it 100% was not the spice (which I skimmed over) that made me enjoy it. I've found that it's honestly just not necessary, so when I do find a good book without spice, it just makes it that much more enjoyable.

    As a married woman I have a different experience of spice and I don’t mind it in that context, either married or the couple has physical desire but understands it’s for the future. I understand how a single person would not want to read it though and it isn’t necessary for me to have it in a story for sure. It’s a good topic and you don’t come across as judging anyone if they have a different boundary than you. We have to know ourselves and what uplifts us vs. brings us down when we read.

    • @Laura-nb3cq
      @Laura-nb3cq 4 месяца назад +1

      sorry to disagree here: it's not matter of being married or single. Nowadays secular romance books are getting more and more disturbing. I'm not a prude. I read a "spicy" romance from time to time in the past, until I felt disgusted with what I was reading. I really told myself:"if I am reading another romance in the future, it's gonna be clean or nothing." I don't mind a detailed kissing scene but I sure don't need sexual lessons on sexual practises. I want to read about two people meeting and falling in love, about their cute moments and overcoming obstacles. Pride and Prejudice still makes my heart beat faster and there, there isn't even a kiss. Having said that, everyone is free to read whaterver one likes.

      Thank you for your opinion! As a single woman I’m always interested if married women have a different perspective/comfort zone with things like spice in books. :)

    • @jkrausz3
      @jkrausz3 4 месяца назад

      @@Laura-nb3cq I don’t think we disagree that much. Like I said in my comment I like my spice to be in a marriage context or a “waiting for marriage but there’s desire” context. The clean stuff is fine but I think some Christian romances are so chaste that it’s unrealistic. Not to mention that ignoring sexuality can be harmful for some people who take that into their relationships/marriages as somehow being normal and it ends up being dysfunctional.

    Just something I have been curious about since I have been watching Christian book tubers over the last year. Why not just read Christian fiction and not have to test out non Christian fiction? It seems there a lot of options from Christian authors. I was so excited to discover channels that offered Christian fiction recommendations and I really appreciate the efforts you make to show books with faith content. I think this could be a discussion about movies that are watched also although I think there are less Christian options. Anyway just curious what others thought

      Unfortunately, except for a few standouts, the writing is usual superior in secular fiction.
