- What weighs 200 tons, costs $millions, takes 3 minutes to rotate, has 25 db gain, works all bands HF, and is the only one of its kind in North America? THIS....Enjoy!! 73's de W9SN www.beloud.us
There is always that one guy,...
I don't think my wife would let me put one in our back yard.
Mine would.
Awesome Drone Footage
Gotta get me one of those!!
very impressive antenna, 73 from switzerland
Must have one heck of a bearing system and motor(s). Incredible...
Saw something similar to this. Curious thing was there was no bearings. Simple a high pressure pump that pushed oil to lift the weight .003 of an inch so they would no longer touch and the structure could move. Then the pressure released so the load would rest on the mounting plate. Of course there were huge slotted plates around it that unlocked and then relocked when settled back down.
The man that showed it to me said a hardened bearing would shatter like glass under the load. Unless they wanted to make it 50 yards across. Made sense then.
@@dougtaylor7724 That is impressive and not surprised at all.
a ball bearing slewing ring would work fine
It's just beautiful and it rotates.
Impressive! Thanks for posting.
That's something to be proud of.
Amazing. Reminds me of the tatlin Tower 🗼
Muy bonito campo de antenas saludos desde Cuba 🇨🇺 CM4UX 73dx
I live fifteen minutes away from this beast. I was told it's strictly for broadcasting religious programming to third world countries.
Based on K9QM's QRZ Logbook, DX is no longer a problem!
Amazing, beyond belief! 73's. w8ISK
Very very cool 😎
That SWA must be a very expensive one to own. 💕
I wonder if the neighbors would notice one in my back yard?
Not if you hang clothes to dry on it.
I wonder if Timtron has had a ham rig connected to it...
I hear a few broadcasts in california here and there from it. Signal is not that strong when I do. Maybe it is not pointed my direction. Real beauty though
"and is the only one of its kind in North America"
And is actually French... made by Thomnson-CSF aka Thales...
It's an Ampegon. Thales, part of Thomson ... Thomson Broadcast companies in Turgi Switzerland and Schifferstadt Germany merged into Ampegon, then sold by capital investors to form a new Swiss company, Ampegon Power Electronics AG. Transmitters are made by the Swiss and antennas by the Germans. Ampegon Antenna Systems GmbH was sold to Cestron. Thomson Broadcast SAS, France and Thomson Broadcast LLC, USA remain as Thomson.
Jay Smilkstein would of loved to go to Monticello to see this monster! RIP Jay de N1onz
Interesting design. Looks like an array of folded dipoles (but what is the square loop bit at the ends?) and a curtain reflector behind?
you're pretty close to be correct. The white elements are the dipoles and those arrays can be moved to change the beam pattern. If you look carefully at the time around 1:52 you'll see like a wire screening behind the dipoles. That is the curtain that reflects the RF out to its destination. There is a better video titled WBCQ 9330 on UTUBE and Allan explains the entire set up
Santa, I’ve been good this year. Could you hook me up with this?
Great closeups of this rotating antenna-instead of music can we get a narration about the antenna, transmitter, and the station that uses them?
No kidding. Just a video from a drone, no dialog or anything about it. Blaa. The music does nothing.
@@curtchase3730 LOOK at WBCQ 9330 on RUclips to get a 30 minute explanation of the entire transmitting plant and antenna
@@curtchase3730 I was just lucky to get 5 minute permission from the owners.
Phased dipole array?
I may have missed it but where exactly is this located?
I think it's Monticello, Maine.
I guess omni directional is out of the question...
omni directional is for light weights :)
Where is the antenna, is it the row of wires or the rectangular shapes?
The antenna would be the rectangles, the wires a reflector.
500kW
That's a 16 element folded dipole panel antenna? Long wave radar. Extremely next, Russia never made theirs rotatable!.
i want....
QRZeb?

Pretty pictures, but every single person watching this is going to want to hear music OTHER THAN what you used, and from each other! So lose the music entirely, make everyone happier.
I made this video for my enjoyment. Not for everyone else :)
I think W9SN is a CBer, and CB is all about being loud.
