      Saw something similar to this. Curious thing was there was no bearings. Simple a high pressure pump that pushed oil to lift the weight .003 of an inch so they would no longer touch and the structure could move. Then the pressure released so the load would rest on the mounting plate. Of course there were huge slotted plates around it that unlocked and then relocked when settled back down.
      The man that showed it to me said a hardened bearing would shatter like glass under the load. Unless they wanted to make it 50 yards across. Made sense then.

    "and is the only one of its kind in North America"
    And is actually French... made by Thomnson-CSF aka Thales...

    • @AC9BXEric
      @AC9BXEric 4 года назад +3

      It's an Ampegon. Thales, part of Thomson ... Thomson Broadcast companies in Turgi Switzerland and Schifferstadt Germany merged into Ampegon, then sold by capital investors to form a new Swiss company, Ampegon Power Electronics AG. Transmitters are made by the Swiss and antennas by the Germans. Ampegon Antenna Systems GmbH was sold to Cestron. Thomson Broadcast SAS, France and Thomson Broadcast LLC, USA remain as Thomson.

    Interesting design. Looks like an array of folded dipoles (but what is the square loop bit at the ends?) and a curtain reflector behind?

    • @adriancressy8363
      @adriancressy8363 3 года назад +1

      you're pretty close to be correct. The white elements are the dipoles and those arrays can be moved to change the beam pattern. If you look carefully at the time around 1:52 you'll see like a wire screening behind the dipoles. That is the curtain that reflects the RF out to its destination. There is a better video titled WBCQ 9330 on UTUBE and Allan explains the entire set up
