I don't get the people that see Vic as a technical gag. I've been a fan for a long time and it seems that his musical imagination and execution is in a state of constant growth and evolution. I manage to always be surprised. Technical, yes... but also incredibly soulful, groovy and expressive. If you ask me, he's a paradigm of what it means to be a musician.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Darren Russell Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Yeah, I agree. Bass is as versatile as a electric guitar but is very underrated because many times it's just there in the background. Listening to bands and/or artists that aren't afraid to use their bassist to play something creative like tapping or solo parts like Victor right here makes me a happy bassist. I personally chose bass over electric guitar because it's such an underestimated yet beautiful instrument.
Three greats, best concert I ever went to was SMV, 2nd row in front of Victor was blown away! Marcus looks like a bad ass almost all the time....scary looking dude, great sound and player!' Shook Stanley Clarke hand that night, I think it was about a foot long!
Lets not forget while Wooten a superior musician in many ways to the deceased, murdered Jaco Pastorius, it was Pastorious who really did much to make the electric bass a solo instrument and created some techiques that Wooten and other great young bassist use today. it was terrible the way Pastorius was beat to death in the late 1980's. god rest his soul.
+Anon Frank I do not remember Jaco Pastorias being inferior to Victor Wooten. In fact what Wooten represents to my way of thinking is the triumph of technique over musicianship. What has taken place since Patorious' death is a popular confusion about what the role of a bass player in an ensemble is. Jazz Rock fusion lost its way and finally went nowhere because it tended to adopt the formula of competing soloists. This formula emphasized technical virtuosity at the expense of musical taste song writing and arrangement. I think Victor for all his skill is a flash in the pan soloist. One of my favorite examples of what a show boat he is remains the video of him covering Michael Jacksons; I Want You Back". Wooten is likely to end up where heavy metal guitarists from the 8o's are today..
+gary morrison To be fair to the other guy, he said "superior musician in many ways" not superior musician, or even superior musician in most ways. Also, I think your analysis of Wooten is wrong. While I don't think he sounds particularly good here, his performances of Amazing Grace and the stuff he did for EMG TV is always stuff I would listen to on my downtime. Not for the technique, but because it sounds so damn good.
+gary morrison Thank you. Wooten dazzles, but Jaco breaks your heart (and puts it back together again) - and that's an overlooked difference. I've never heard electric bass played as beautifully as Jaco did.
Great comment Danny and I must agree. We live in an era where technique is conflated with artistry and in fact these remain distinct judgements. Technical proficiency is not artistry. Wooten is an overrated showboat in my opinion. Wooten's playing falls into the category of empty virtuosity. I read a comment attributed to the bassist Leland Sklar, "When I get called to a recording session, I try to keep in mind that I am not there to demonstrate how well I play my instrument but to focus my attention on playing someone else's music."
AND -VICTOR WOOTEN WITH ALL THAT TALENT AND ABILITY OF EXPRESSION IS STILL ONE OF THE MOST HUMBLE MUSICIAN ON THE PLANET. MAN WHAT A GIFT THE ALMIGHTY HAS GIVEN HIM THANKS TO -FILMANDO 022 FOR THE VIDEO.
+Chris Vorland I think Victor would be fine with it, if Tosin keeps out of Victors frequency-range. But if they ever would collaborate, the Matrix would probably break down.
I know your comment is from 8 months ago, but you just made my day. To us bass players, your average 'bassists are just failed guitarists' crap is heard all too often, and it's enraging after a good while. SO, to hear what you've just said has restored my faith in guitarists not to be arrogant dicks. :)
Bass is the butter in the bottom of the fryin' pan. These guys have taken the next logical leap. Now the electric bass conversation seems to be heading in cello territory. It's all good!
I remember when he was great when playing with Bela and the Fleck Tones. Bela Fleck oddly a jazz banjo player, mostly played an electric banjo, he's really great. use to give Wooten lots of solos. I remember Wooten's brother with that make shit percussion instrument he wore like a guitar. I can't figure out why he never switched to guitar ? you should hear him on 6 string electric bass too.
from about 4:17-4:50 my Jaw was about at my balls. The lead up to it is funky, then we've got ourselves in a awesome classical run, i couldn't believe some of the nuances i was hearing sounded like a damn piano (just about when it zooms on marcus's face around 4:40, damn...).. but then theres victor whamming out power chords on the bass making you smile = ) Gosh I need to play my bass more... my life has felt so empty without this level of inspiration to look and work towards.. Music is good
@@FavioRiveros hahaha, this comment is from 4 years ago, but the other day I was thinking... Mario World boss song has the same chords of Night in Tunisia XD
rethink what your saying...Victor Wooten incredible bass soloist. im aware of Bella etc.. Marcus Miller one of the most important musicians who has play on the some of the most important records of all time.. victor may wow the crowds but Marcus is the real deal... im no Marcus fan boy but Marcus is the man... no doubt
The majority of this solo is a take on Stu Hamm's Quahogs Anyone? I love Vic and I've met him and his brother's on more than a few occasions. It's a great solo and should be seen as a nod to another titan bassist in the industry.

@Maximilian Kaysen you are welcome =)
Victor is so casual yet so soulful and absolutely technical... it's ridiculous! He's just awesome. 🙏👍
I swear victor Wooten blends music and magic ...
The mutual respect on that stage is fantastic. Three brilliant players sharing the same stage. Unreal !

Not many bassist can make stanley clarke, and Marcus Miller have that expression of "did he just do that?" That's why you gotta love vic!
Arta armonia, contrapunto y tecnica !! Un bestia en la musica ! Q bueno poder escuchar a estos grandes en el bajo

Victor wooten The Best music bass of the world for my 🤘🎵 🎶 🎵🎶🎸🌐⚡
He's technically resourceful. He uses anything and everything to make a bass line. It's wonderful

Marcus Miller at 4:42 - I'm suddenly rethinking my career as a bass player.
Great solo! Great bass player! Great inspiration!
Victor wooten the best bass players god bless victor wooten

Victor Wooten tira o som que quiser de um contrabaixo. Ele é um gênio sempre em ascensão.
My bass just slapped me and walked out my house.
MrServingSize it was getting you back for the times you slapped it
This comment was in wooten's performance of "The lesson"
3:55 Vic's tapping the melody to Caravan by Duke Ellington.
3:55
Magnifico...Grande execução deste jovem. Parabéns
Sounds like a nice blend of jazz, soul & funk. Awesome grooving Victor.
I love how he quotes "A Night In Tunisia" in his solo.
Thought that was 'Caravan'.
Def a call back to parkers version of night in Tunisia
@@YaoEspirito He plays both tunes, first a Night in Tunisia then Caravan.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeel dam, thats allot harder than another one bites the dust, which is on my level
Same
O Marcus só ficou de olho e vendo que é o verdadeiro mestre no Baixo. 😆
If this was just audio, i would think it was 2 bass players. Victor is so incredible with a bass.
and just when I thought he couldn't possibly impress me more than he already has , He Does.
1:01 that's easy, I can do it too...
3:49 damn,, he's good
4:41 we got it man... no really stop it
Cheesy Cola 4:55 try not to cry
Kay Park ^lmaooooo
4:55 its not that hard, but that tapping...yeah, very hard xd
wooten is on his own level. unrivaled in talent and ability on bass.
Unimpressed Marcus Miller is unimpressed.
Nah fam, that's discrete jealousy.

Nice quote of Caravan too
Now only if victor wooten and jimmy Hendrix had a kid. Jimmy Wooten.....seems legit

to me, he seems plays bass like a piano. wonderful.
Marcus is just like "What the fuck?"
El mejor solista del mundooooooooooooooooooooooooooo en mi opinion :3
I have never experienced such a short 6 minutes like this
I love that Macus face xD

Marcus Miller wishing this tour ends asap

Marcus Miller is standing there like.. "This guy....."
For those of you who don't know what song he's playing from 2:37, it is A Night in Tunisia :D
Marcus looks so... sad :o
He is sad...X) wictor hve better skills...X)
na I think thats just his undivided attention look
Bastien Thomassin hhhhhhh...it happens...but marcus is better in slap than wooten and wooten is better in solo and demo and harmonics than marcus
What bass school did you go to.? They are both excellent bass players. Victor just has a flashier style.

All I heart is tosin abasi. I see where some of his influence came from. And I know his odd strumming came from victor as well. Sickass solo

Agreed. It's so versatile and can cover so many roles, and yet gets stuffed into a stereotyped position so often.
night in tunisa!!
And caravan
the best bassist of all time
Dom dado por DEUS......

I wonder too.
who is better? is this the question? are we like kids? :) music is divine!!
Bass face
+Kristiano El Reesio And unless Victor masters Soprano Sax and Bass Clarinet - he'll never be as versatile as Marcus.
Best bassist of all time imo
I second that motion!
I suppose I should say bass guitarist, not sure how I would compare it to upright.
Something tells me he'd have no issues kicking ass at upright bass as well. Just a hunch though!
Best bassist is billy Sheehan you fool
billy can't hold a candle to victor. I am not talking about preference, I am talking about skill and ability.
This is hypnotic!!!
