I got a bulldog for free and was the worst financial decision of my life. He blew out his right rear ligament requiring a complete knee rebuild. Then he had his right eye operated on three times. One surgeries for his eye lid dropping to low which was then overcorrected which caused a ulcer to develop which was undetected due to the surgery of the eye lid so they had to graft part of the eye to cover the ulcer so it could heal. Once that healed they re operated on his eye to correct the over correction. All the eye surgeries caused dry eye in that eye so he is on eye drops the rest of his life. He has environmental allergies which causes itching and skin infections. So we put him on apoquel which at the time had no major side effects listed and was highly recommended by our vet for long term use. Only to realize three years later that a study was done which apoquel has a high rate of cancer when used as a long term drug which of course he got cancer. A stage 3 (high grade) masscell tumor on his front right leg. So a surgery to remove that as well as the nearest lymphnode which luckly the tumor had not metastasized too. He then went threw 8 rounds of chemotherapy which took 12 weeks to complete. After that they took him off the apoquel and now gets cytopoint injects (90mg doses) to control the itching and a medicated shampoo bath twice a week for the rest of his life. He gets chronic ear infections and chronic skin infections at least three times a year no matter how much we bath and clean his ears. All in all we are over $20k in to this dog over the last 3 years. Be ready if you decide to get one to have a walking loving vet bill. If you made it this far know one thing he is the most sweet loving cuddly dog I have owned except for maybe my pug. Very calm with other dogs, absolutely no aggression - that is like walking pillow 6. BUT if she sees a drunk man approaching or bigger aggressive dog - with no bark or growl she will just sky-rocket: no matter how big man/dog is, she feels no pain (you can step on her paw and she will make no sound) So for a calm and loving appartment pet she is just perfect! The only problem is in the street people are picking on me like why is your dog so fat? Well, actually she is not.
I have a 16 week old English Bulldog and regardless of the health issues, I wouldn't pick another breed for the rest of my life. This breed requires you to be financially stable, I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you have saved up for a very long time.
So you’re okay with you’re pets being unable to breathe, constantly drooling, prone to infections, can’t give birth naturally, can’t mate naturally, can’t walk properly and just overall being a deformed animal because you don’t believe you can find it’s personality in a healthier breed or better yet a mixed breed. It isn’t about being financially stable to keep up with the thousand vet bills that breed requires just to live a half decent life for only 6 years; it’s about having the decency to be aware and stop supporting kennel clubs’ upholding of this inhumane standard. Being able to afford a dog is a privilege in itself and being able to afford a purebred even more so, therefore you ought to use it humanely instead of being vain. This isn’t a peta rant it’s a pleading from someone who is sick of seeing these animals constantly in the vets.
Great video I have had my for 3yrs now he's treated like a king regular check ups he's 30g but mostly bone mass never had any issues with him he's fed white fish & veg Fresh water twice a day
You should review the Olde English bulldog, they are similar but breath better and are more built/proportional. Ever since I got my Olde English bulldog I have fallen in love with the breed.
They definitely require a lot of maintenance, making sure they get their wrinkles cleaned, keep their ears dry, etc. Such a great breed though, they're so funny, worth it just for how much they'll make you laugh
I dont know the breeding standards in the US - but our english bully is from switzerland, 22kg, Nose good, can easily walk stairs up&down...seems overall in much better physical condition than the bulldogs featured in this video. they look way overweight and fatty. also our bullly‘s mom gave natural birth.amazing family dogs they are
I’ve never once met a mean bulldog. Despite their past as fighting dogs, it seems that modern bulldogs are almost physically incapable of being aggressive. They are always the sweetest dogs out there and they are great with kids.
I just rescued a BeaBull. About 6yo. He seems pretty chill but has a Beagle nose! He catches a scent and he just about pull me out of my sneakers. But he is affectionate and a cuddle buddy, INSIDE! Outside the Beagle nature seems to come out in him. But he is Sooooo cute!!
These are strong willed dogs and need a strong willed owner or you will not be able to handle them. They are very strong dogs and if you are unable to be their leader they will lead you. I’ve seen people get them thinking they will be like a lab and realize it is too much work for them and they have to rehome them. Also they are known for having lots of skin and coat issues and all of the other issues mentioned here. And lots of gas lol
I have one who is actually a working dog. He’s a service dog in my counseling practice and that EB nature is perfect for helping clients with emotional regulation. I had to do a LOT of work on that willful nature up front, though.
They are great dogs but need lots of attention health wise. I feel breeders should breed healthy blood lines and it could help the breed. My favorite breed by far!
Any breed w/ the short, smashed muzzle will be more prone to breathing/over heating issues. The Johnson type dog is a much larger over all and has a much less compact muzzle, but, yes, they also may have some breathing issues as compared to other breeds.
Benjamin Duran it’s still bad with the amount of wrinkles, closed nares, etc. 🤷🏽♀️ regardless they still can’t breathe properly and have a lot of health issues.
The Johndon type isn't an English Bulldog. It's an American Bulldog. Much taller, long tail, very different temperament. It's the beefier of the two types and is often passed off as an XL pitbull after cropping it's ears. The Scott type are lighter of bone and more refined and more athletic than the bulkier Johnson type.
The girlfriend and I are looking at getting a bulldog. Our biggest fear is dealing with puppy mills. We live in Arizona and we were wondering if you would happen to know any breeders in the southwestern states that would be great to get in contact with. Thank you and God bless
*... I've had a few English bulldogs and I'm a trainer. This is what you need to know. You'll see a lot of videos of bulldogs and riding skateboards but there is another side to English bulldogs. They were bred to be bull baiting dogs and much of that nature is still in them even though a lot of it has been weeded out. The truth is they can be very tough to handle, stubborn, push boundaries and if you are not just as tough and a very firm dominant leader, they will step ahead of you and run the show and that may or may not include aggression. You can't let any bad behavior slide with an English bulldogs. So, if you're a strong dominant leader, you know how to correct efficiently, not punish but correct. There is a difference. You're able to handle powerful breeds, this may be the dog for you because once you train them and discipline them, they can become very good pets. However, if you were shy, introverted, quiet by nature or any of your kids, are, you better pass on the English bulldog and get a cocker spaniel? If you want the details, you can send me a message
I prefer the more correct type ones. I don't like the extremes they're being bred for these days. The jacked up rear ends, extremely heavy wrinkles, extremely pinched nostrils, extreme under bite and obesity issues are s turn off for me. I'm seeing far too many breeders following the trend of 100 lbers and it's bad for the breed. Temperament is spot on. They're great personalities. Loveable .
A middle aged bulldog came into my life quite randomly a few years ago and even though we only have about 4 years together he’s definitely young favorite dog. But I could never own one again, I think that’s a common sentiment with bulldog owners
I disagree, as a bulldog owner (that have owned many over the decades) I would never own another dog that isn't a bulldog. That is a common sentiment with bulldog owners. Problem is, you probably had one with tons of problems (which could be why someone gave up their 4to5 year old bulldog). As I type this, I have my 3 year old female sitting right beside me while my lab (wife's dog) is God only knows where in the pasture. Bulldogs are by far the most human loving breeds
I know the most commonly stated history of the English bulldog is that they were once bull baiting dogs that were moved away from and no longer can do what they were historically designed for, but after reading books and watching videos, like the swell videos from Dogumentary TV, of folks like Mr. Richard F. Stratton and Ms. Diane Jessup, I started to question that. Based on what they say, the American pit bulldog is the original bulldog. Even if that may not be the case, those old-time bulldogs did sound an awful lot like they met the physical and mental characteristics of our pit bulls today. I cannot see how one could go from a dog that would be called a pit bull today turning into a dog that resembles a large pug and still be considered the same breed as the dogs that baited bulls. It also sounds and looks like they added pug blood long ago to them to give them their shorter face and their curled tails. Once they added another breed. It is possible that the English bulldog could have been the same dog as the pit bull and then changed when pug was added and then started being designed for the show ring.
He's right because my bullies were great and I was coaching my boys at football and baseball and my little buddy wanted to be there in the Texas summer in the dugout and he just wanted water but you have to be alert that they need more and now that I'm single I want another bulldog but I have to make sure that they will be ok because they are unbelievable dogs
Some dogs can climb trees and rat better than cats...you are looking for a special kinda dog Sir...not necessarily a breed. Some cats can't rat for nothing in the modern world and some retain some killer ratting capabilities. I could never have respect for a cat that won't hunt. A cat that lets a mouse or rat walk by has no self respect in my book lol :)
@UCe4BfGZEDIJmuYKi30LxAKw no one can answer your question because of how you worded it. Even among cats...which are known for hunting rats...not all cats will hunt. Among all the breeds you listed...it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack to find 1. The dog with the prey drive to even notice the snake and kick in gear 2. Be quick enough to actually kill it Even among the dogs from the list of breeds you mentioned...that would try... Some individuals from the various breeds will be better than others. I can't really explain it any more than that
Bulldogs are great …. My first little guy made it to 14 and he peaked at 98 pounds…and had a great red/orange,color to his body with a black mask, his son is almost 14 and actually is doing better than him but peaked at 72 pounds…. His son is so sweet when they’re not biting me….
I absolutely adore my English Bulldog who is a year and half. He’s amazing (even though he just chewed my brand new Timberlands) it saddens me there short life expectancy and there Health problems however if you take care of them, and give them the best place they can have you can hopefully extend that. However my dog is just an amazing creature. He is great with kids and I couldn’t ask for a better dog honestly.
I really love this channel. So very informative 💖 I would kind of like to see something done on rescue dogs and pound dogs. I watched the video awhile back on breeds best suited for moms and as a hippie mom I must respectfully disagree with the labs being chosen for the hippie moms. Although labs were on our list of possible breeds to add to our family, we felt strongly that rescue of our AmStaff mix from the pound was the best choice. I feel more hippie moms have rescue dogs. These are the best dogs in the world! Great family dogs. for all you that say to stop breeding. If people in the past thought like you this breed wouldn't be around any more so keep the negative remarks to your self. Im sure dog buyer know who the professional breeders are. And who is doing it for the money reputation speaks for its self.
That is exactly the point, many people think this breed should never have been created, because so many of the dogs are suffering. Personally I think we should give breeders a chance to breed healthier dogs, since this way of thinking about breeding, ethics and health is pretty new. Gradually, though, all Kennel clubs need to impose walking or breathing tests and not allow dogs that cannot pass the test, or any dog that has required surgery of the airways or soft palate, to have their offspring registered.
That’s the point. The breed should never have existed. They have health problems. They are designed to have such big heads and narrow hips that they need to be cut out of their moms. They suffer their whole lives but you don’t care because they’re cute and have great personalities. All dogs are the best dogs in the world. Haven’t you ever had another breed, or even a mutt?
It's a shame that these dogs have been overbred to the point where they have probably the worst health of most any dog out there, cuz even though these dogs are ugly as sin, you just can't help but fall in love with them cuz of just how sweet they are!

6. BUT if she sees a drunk man approaching or bigger aggressive dog - with no bark or growl she will just sky-rocket: no matter how big man/dog is, she feels no pain (you can step on her paw and she will make no sound)
So for a calm and loving appartment pet she is just perfect!
The only problem is in the street people are picking on me like why is your dog so fat? Well, actually she is not.
This breed doesn't deserve its health problems. They hide so much heart behind their gloomy faces, and are great companions.
@@malika____339 no need to write essay mate
@@finduncs5731 I know but I did anyway
@@finduncs5731 people should be aware how bulldogs suffer
@benji orrrrrrr, people could just stop breeding them. Breeds are a man made thing anyway
Great video I have had my for 3yrs now he's treated like a king regular check ups he's 30g but mostly bone mass never had any issues with him he's fed white fish & veg
Fresh water twice a day
This breed needs to be rebuilt
Check the renaissance bulldog
You should review the Olde English bulldog, they are similar but breath better and are more built/proportional. Ever since I got my Olde English bulldog I have fallen in love with the breed.
Where can you find them though? I spoke to more than one breeder and they said they’re no longer around.
A Laudun check out Olde south bulldogges
They definitely require a lot of maintenance, making sure they get their wrinkles cleaned, keep their ears dry, etc. Such a great breed though, they're so funny, worth it just for how much they'll make you laugh
I have an Olde Tyme Bulldog, I would never own an English Bulldog due to health reasons
They are physically incapable of many many things
It's so funny and adorable how the dogs play fight in this video 😂
These are some of the cutest puppies ever
They used to look a whole lot different. Great dogs
Peanut is a true treasure anyone thinking about getting a bulldog should
Look for the right breeder like he said and you will be fine
They are great dogs but need lots of attention health wise. I feel breeders should breed healthy blood lines and it could help the breed. My favorite breed by far!
thumbs for channel name "doGumentary" lol.
Pet insurance recommended it! As you do need to take them to a vet sometime and the bill can be high
English bulldogs are my favorite breed of dogs!!!!! They're adorable!!!!
I have one of those. Lovely doggo. 8,5 years old. Just learned few days ago she has some kind of heart tumor. Check your dogs on regular basis.
This breed is ruined especially the Johnson’s version. The dog can’t even breathe properly because of the nares being so closed
Any breed w/ the short, smashed muzzle will be more prone to breathing/over heating issues. The Johnson type dog is a much larger over all and has a much less compact muzzle, but, yes, they also may have some breathing issues as compared to other breeds.
The johnson bulldog isnt that bad, it has a short muzzle not a smuched in muzzle like the English bulldog
Benjamin Duran it’s still bad with the amount of wrinkles, closed nares, etc. 🤷🏽♀️ regardless they still can’t breathe properly and have a lot of health issues.
Is there a Johnson English Bulldog? I had a Johnson type American Bulldog and he had no respiratory issue. He didn’t even snore.
For her extensive dry skin I use hot spot works great and cheap
Bulldogs are by far the most human loving breeds
holy crap you have some of the nicest bulldogs ive ever seen. the body is so damn nice!
We just got one and I think its the best dog ever. No wild barking, friendly, kinda lazy.
Pug wasn't added they bred and mutated it through artificial selection to make it face like that... same thing they did with pugs
They look the same as my English bull dog it's very funny and it's scared of a couple of things
Among Rottie, GSD, Belgian Malinois, Dobermann which breed can kill a snake FASTER?
Malinois for sure
ruclips.net/video/jgo6-NjRo7E/видео.html
That should answer your question
Some dogs can climb trees and rat better than cats...you are looking for a special kinda dog Sir...not necessarily a breed.
Some cats can't rat for nothing in the modern world and some retain some killer ratting capabilities.
I could never have respect for a cat that won't hunt. A cat that lets a mouse or rat walk by has no self respect in my book lol :)
@UCe4BfGZEDIJmuYKi30LxAKw no one can answer your question because of how you worded it.
Even among cats...which are known for hunting rats...not all cats will hunt.
Among all the breeds you listed...it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack to find
1. The dog with the prey drive to even notice the snake and kick in gear
2. Be quick enough to actually kill it
Even among the dogs from the list of breeds you mentioned...that would try...
Some individuals from the various breeds will be better than others.
I can't really explain it any more than that
Finally a channel with some real pure breed reviews , not a google quoting. Channel
Ive always loved these dogs hopefully I can own one when I get my own house!😅
Wow! My Lola got to be 80lbs. and still retained a nice body and was very active. She was my third bully.
He’s amazing (even though he just chewed my brand new Timberlands) it saddens me there short life expectancy and there
Health problems however if you take care of them, and give them the best place they can have you can hopefully extend that. However my dog is just an amazing creature. He is great with kids and I couldn’t ask for a better dog honestly.
I adore you!😍🤩
@@patc1309 awwww thank you! Back at ya!
Beautiful Italian QUEEN for sure!!!!
I needed that dog that needed me and am just head over paws in love with this pup! Thank you for great content, looking forward to what’s next. 🙏🏻 🐾☮️💜🦋🌱🌼
Wow! very nice pet dog, i am happy seeing that dog.Watching you here.
Great dog, but super expensive and the vet bills are probably the highest among all dog breeds.
At the beginning of the video I thought it was the dog speaking, voice fit so well
The short lifespan discourages me from getting one . That is so sad they can’t live longer
A whole bunch of beautiful bulldogs. Would LOVE to have one, but not the lifestyle to handle one.
My chocolate tan tri had 8 great puppy 2 nd litter 18 months later 6dead 1 alive shes a fully suited lilac tan merle English bulldog female her mother Carrie's lilac her father a chocolate merle great dogs
Love this, we just got a english bulldog puppy
I have 3 English bulldogs and they have no health problems you just have to no where to get healthy one
Where?
They are very polite. 10/10
He reminds me of butch the bulldog on Tom and Jerry.
I have a frenchie who looks more like a english bulldog in the face/american bully with the amount of muscles, but the overheating problems make me wanna cry :( he has so much energy and gets sooo happy when meeting people and other dogs but.. those fu****g breathing/overheating problems breaks my heart. Something you learn after having one.
I have a English bulldog they can be quite expensive but there worth every penny the best companion u could ever have💕
( but i would not recommend if your not financially stable)
So we now review dogs like there products?
..breeding is a business 🥴
Home cook for your dog. Chicken or turkey or lamb with brown rice carrots . I make chia muffins with flaxseed. Give dog litt of muffin one quarter each am no problems with bowels. You can see the reasons behind their breed.

Why is my bulldog always bitting? Hes 3 months old need helpp
that bull dog is tearing that other dog up lolol
They’re the cutest dogs
Great video! I learned a lot.
Lovely breed
Ur voice is awesome do you know much about English bulldog
It's a shame that these dogs have been overbred to the point where they have probably the worst health of most any dog out there, cuz even though these dogs are ugly as sin, you just can't help but fall in love with them cuz of just how sweet they are!
Just listening to this I realize something... dog breeding is eugenics.
