Having tried both the Swift and MG3, I would say that the MG3 has much better styling and is more appealing at a first glance. However, the swift seemed better built with more durable materials, I am sure it will outlive the MG. On paper the MG seems like a clear winner, and if you are leasing maybe its worth a shot. But for long term ownership I think the swift would be a better option. Just a note, I had a bad experience with an MG4 where the infotainment system kept crashing and had to be reset regularly, and the car interior was already looking tired after only around 6-7k miles on the clock. I know this is anecdotal and may not reflect other peoples experience, but this would put me off getting an MG.

@@teofilol2666 go to an MG dealership and sit in the base spec MG4 the seats are of a terrible quality and are very soft, they haven't changed them from the Chinese market where people are usually smaller and lighter also the inner door panels are very flimsy, not good if you play your music loud ! However the ZS EV is built a lot better so I personally wouldn't say all MG's are bad but the equivalent to the ZS EV is the Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona EV (almost the same car) which are much much much better although more expensive so I guess you get what you pay for and I'd rather buy a 1 yo Toyota Yaris (or Mazda) than a brand new MG3 that being said the new Suzuki swift with the CVT Automatic might be a good choice and still be as economical as the MG3 !
I watch a lot of vlogs on Chinese cars/motorcycles and the improvements are incredible but I still couldn’t risk my own money on one. I would prefer the two Japanese cars in every way. I haven’t driven an mg but have driven the other two. As a long term car I would prefer the Suzuki. Corrosion is an issue with Japanese cars but can be treated from the start albeit at expense.
There's a guy who did a video on the MG3 Hybrid fuel economy by driving a long distance. I tried out the MG ZS hybrid and the MG 3 today. One thing I noticed as they have the same drive train and the ZS is a bigger heavier car that the ZS had better fuel economy. To be fair it was brand new, never been driven before and spent most of the drive in EV mode. I think it depends on the driving conditions. If your journey is short and you do a lot of braking so the regen gets a chance to keep the battery topped up that the economy would be better. I must say the MG definitely goes almost as good as a hot hatch though....
@@superwag634 that's because you get the Indian build Suzuki swift, the Mazda 's hybrid engine and lithium ion battery are incredibly expensive (that's why the non hybrid is so cheap) and the MG is priced very reasonable for what you're getting as it's the same Chinese built car as we get in the UK. Personally I'd go with the Suzuki swift even though it's made in India especially at that price !
The Suzuki is a great little car. The only issue they have, is they suffer badly from stone chipping, particularly on the bonnet. I'd suggest a clear vinyl wrap on the bonnet as a solution. Or else, get the car in white, then the stone chips aren't so obvious.
In my opinion the fuel economy around town is inconsistent ranking from less than 40 MPG on bad day to 60 MPG on a good day. Hover on motorway it could be as high as 70 MPG.
Apart from fuel economy mg3 is otherwise perfect in my opinion as it is fully loaded with technology like 360 camera and a remote preconditioning. And I also would like to see automatic parking in this car.
If you qualify for Blue light card NHS Teachers veteran etc Suzuki is £15093 in base trim which has all the kit you actually need and hammers the other cars for value decent dealer activated warranty 7 yrs too.

I was not sure how mpg would compare, but happy with an overall average of 58.9mpg, compared to the last car's 41 & our other car's 36. It is likely we would do better mpg with the others, but the 0-60 in 8 seconds is worth the extra at the pumps.

How does the MG3 Hybrid perform on a long downhill stretch, with the battery at 100% charge? Some say it goes into neutral and then you are forced to keep your foot on the brake, with all that that entails. It is not a safe way to tackle a long stretch of road downhill.
Have you never driven a loaded vehicle with a gearchange? I have to brake the car and van if I drive on all long downhill stretches, we are becoming too dependant on technology. The van has hill start, but I have to use the handbrake to pull away on a hill like I have been doing for the past 50 years with no problem and yet a lot of people driving modern cars are used to having auto handbrakes. I test drove a MG ZS Hybrid today which has the same drive train and it spent most of the drive in EV mode around the hills of Bath, I never had this problem. I would suggest looking at the charging gauge that it would be a rare occurrence that the battery would be that charged because even on the open road it was using the petrol engine and the electric motor thus discharging the battery.
The Suzuki has only one stage seat-heating? How about the other two cars? Does the Suzuki and Mazda have heated steering wheel (the MG has)? How about the relaibility of MG? Adore my mazda2 hybrid has the yaris hybrid and have similar top end the madza hands down feels the suspesion is superior for countryside and town getting better mpg put of the mazda 2 hybdrid homundous vs the previpus yaris gr sport 1 inch diffeeence in the rims but the masda binicle is a lot cleaner
@@BuckleUpShow but you can't compare an automatic to a manual it's like comparing a Suzuki GSXR125 to a 125cc scooter yeah you'll have more fun with a sequential gearbox but the CVT scooter will be easier to ride better on fuel (unless you ride the GSXR125 economically said nobody ever) if you look at India Australia and South Africa everyone would rather have an automatic than a manual (they just can't afford one in most cases)
A good review the MG3 appears to be the best, however for me what matters is the level of depreciation over a 5 year period. I purchased a new Toyota Yaris in 2013 and received almost half of what I originally paid. I have done research and concluded that the Mini and the Toyota Yaris have been the best superminis over the past 20 years. I would like to see a review comparing all the Chinese superminis which may or may not be the best buys.
Just going into my third swift got a blue light card will be in base trim thats all you need in sliver 6000 grand in 108 uk pounds for 48mths 24000miles a year and 6000 grand at the end my old szl will do 67mpg all day long happy me.

@oliverskinner8962 given the choice between a CVT and a manual, unless you NEED the automatic, we would generally recommend the manual as it's more fun to drive.

The Swift is the most engaging but on balance the extra power in the MG probably makes it more fun
One thing you havent been able to test and that is reliability and historically that may go to the Madza.
Suzuki have a pretty good record, but as this particular Mazda is actually a Toyota, it will probably be more reliable.
The only excuse they have now is perceived better reliability 😊.

@BuckleUpShow I didn't say toyotas are unreliable I said it was a good car but the suzuki will last longer simple well made less complicated its hybrid system is simple to work less to go wrong the timing chain is like something out of a truck it has two oil squirts one to cool the piston one to cool the cylinder wall over engineered will last a life time they dont build them like they used to but they do at suzuki

The big factor overlooked & not discussed with MG is typical Chinese manufacture pretty surface bling that will be sad & sorry after 00's of 000's on the clock, unlike so many solid Suzuki Swifts going strong. Listen to the concerning negative reports from independant mechanics & crash repairers.

@@BuckleUpShow I simply don't like any vehicle produced in a place controlled and subsidised by the CCP. I think it's sad that so many UK and European makes have been taken over by China. I'm Aussie, married to a Filipina grandmother, and living in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines. No way I'd buy a car made in China. Their navy, coast guard, and maritime militia threaten and ram Filipino vessels operating in the Philippines Exclusive Economic zone. As well, they deny poor Filipino fishermen access to traditional fishing grounds. They have built artificial islands within the Philippines Exclusive Economic Zone, militarised them with radar, missile systems, and airstrips for fighter aircraft. I also stand by my original statement. A real MG was made in the UK. Sure, cars made in the UK were not always reliable. Making a major purchase like a car made in China is effectively propping up an authoritarian regime bent on world domination.
