Many of Us want Koninsberg and Prussia back..!! Back from the Ocupation and the Sovietization af this wonderful historic City, one of the jewels of art, architecture and craftmanship of the northern Europe..!! The craddle of the Germanic-prussian culture..!!
It's not going to happen. There is no Koenigsberg any more, unfortunately. It is now Kaliningrad, a tiny exclave of Russia. Best blame Stalin, and get used to it.
Königsberg is sadly gone forever and can never come back.
Maybe one day. If germans really want to give it back.
Konigburg died as last Prussians did..nothing to be revived..different place with different people.

My father's home
My grandmother was born in Königsberg in 1920. Like many others she had to escape the country when the red army and the soviet union took over this part of Praussen. I have never been in Königsberg myself but I would like to se the place where she was born.
I'm hoping to get some answers from people who lives in this city. Is it dangerous to go to Königsberg? Is there something specific that I should think about before traveling there?

I live in Konigsberg (Kaliningrad) from birth, and generally no problems.
Most of places of worship was to restore, well, living quarters that British aircraft turned into ruins unfortunately not.
There is something to see, do not be afraid.

Nice comment from you. I'm a German, I don't have roots in ancient Eastern Germany but as a German patriot (one of the few remaining) I will never ever put my foot on one of these territories which are under Polish or Russian administration (or if you prefer: part of Poland and Russia) since 1945

I think the music needs identification: Excerpt from "Songs of Travel", by Ralph Vaughan Williams, poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson. I do not know the name of the baritone singing, but the music is very fitting for the visual presentation. Sad, nostalgic, bittersweet…whatever the crimes the Nazis may have committed, I feel for all the women, children and defenseless elderly people who suffered and died in that terrible onslaught from allied bombing, having had absolutely nothing to do with the crimes of the Nazi regime, but found themselves trapped…many perished in the dangerous trek from East Prussia and the Baltic lands to the West during the winter of 1945…terribly tragic and sad that so many were lost, and that the beautiful city of Königsberg is no more…whatever was left of Immanuel Kant's city was mostly bulldozed and replaced by hideous Soviet architecture. Almost all that is left of the old city is the reconstructed (with financing from a newly reunified Germany) Dom (cathedral).

qwerty mnbvcx Этот город переродился из руин в Калининград.Населяют его люди розной национальности: русские, беларусы, украинцы, литовцы немцы,армяне,татары , чеченцы и т. По кирпичику собрали из руин. Кстати, .Кафедральный собор,где находится могила Канта, отстроили уже после распада СССР
А курсе ли вы, что немцы вскрыли могилу Канта и носили его череп во время факельного шествия? История многогранна.История Кенигсберга очень трагична, но и поучительна...
Ну примерно так же, как немцы разрушали Ленинград, Минск, Киев и многие советские города....

My mothers uncle Conrad was one of many people who were kicked out of Koenigsberg by the Soviets flooding the city with Russians who took their homes away. The same thing happened in Poland, Austria, and I think Lithuania.
My Mother Irene Hasselbach was born in konigsberg ... she came to Berlin in age of 13. My Mother is gone 2005 . Greeting from Berlin to you.

The only thing what these people haven't done yet is to rename the town to Kantgad . Or to Königsberg ...
